This game really does not deserve any tracks on a list like this. Its OST is so generic and not worthy of the name Mario. The game itself is pretty decent, though - not as good as the WiiU version, but still solid multiplayer fun with the usual great level design.
@BeleuchteteBrueder The only thing I disliked about New Super Mario Bros. U was the final boss. It felt kinda anticlimactic to me. But other than that all the New Super Mario Bros. games are fantastic!
@Moop Bread You think so? The first one on the DS had pretty bland levels, I thought. I liked the second one on the 3DS, though. And NSMBWii had the greatness of the multiplayer mode, but sound and levels were also not as top notch as in other Mario games. Only the WiiU title could really get me. Better levels and the great challenge mode. Only the music was still generic and boring, especially if compared to all the other great Mario games.
I've actually never played the DS version. (Well, I guess that technically isn't true because I borrowed it from my friend once several years ago. But I didn't play it very much.) I've heard its's really great too.

You need to shut your fucking mouth because the NSMB Main Theme is iconic as hell.
Well I do not need to do that, no. And granted - the main theme is fairly decent. It is the only track I would consider putting on any video game music list. But to me it is nowhere near "iconic as hell". So it seems you like the OST, I don't. I am really dissapointed in it, because most Mario soundtracks are great. This one. Well it is "fucking" not.

@spanio a lot of people called nintendo lazy because it was a 2d game. it was also often said that it didn't rank up with the best mario games, and i disagree with that. simply put, i think the game is a lot better than people give it credit for, which is pretty much the definition of underrated.
@gott957 The game was critically acclaimed and sold VERY well. Which part of that suggests "underrated?"

this game is so underrated. just because it's 2d doesn't mean it didn't take effort to make. not to mention this game is soo much fun. at least it did well in sales.

Also, is the NSMB games, the bad guys jump at those little voices. This can be an advantage, and therefore memorizing the song is a strategy within itself.

yeah, it's just kinda there to be like "hey, this is a mario theme". Ya know, it's just a stamp. I think it works well with this song, but not in most of the others. It fits nicely here.
In the underground theme it sounds like Fuck. XD
Why's everyone complaining about the "Bah" sound? It doesn't really add anything, but it's truly insignificant. Just enjoy the bloody song. :|

I thought this soundtrack was handled by newcomers Shiho Fujii & Ryo Nagamatsu. I wish Koji Kondo could go back to composing full scores.

The composers deserve credit for thinking up a new Volcano theme instead of (as I would have predicted) just using the lava theme from Super Mario 64

Yeah, I figured, but it doesn't work well when it's so constantly out of place. The nostalgia is working for me that's for sure, and SM64 is a very nostalgic game for me, being one of my first. Even things from SMG, I get nostalgic about.

Very nice theme, but what is the need for that "ba ba-ba ba-ba-baa" voice from SM64 in all these NSMB themes. It can be knd of annoying sometimes. It doesn't ruin this theme, but it doesn't really add much to it either. It does fit nicely with rhythm, but it seems like its only purpose is to be a "mario theme" stamp.
Omg i love this song i had alot fun playing it with my 3 other friends it was alot of trash talking on the toads. on reason why local mutiplayer is still fun. I havent had fun on a 4 player game like that in awhile

My favorite music in the game is the Castle Theme from the ending castles of any world.

As with the DS game, I find the soundtrack to be mostly uninspired. I like this one though with its nice beat and percussions. Extremely fun game by the way!
