One of my favorite video game villains ever, and one of the reasons I love the Monster spin-off series so much. I'd put in the work to get him in my team just so I could take him along on my journey, then "upgrade" him to his true form during late/post-game. ^^
Funny thing... I know this is a two-year old comment, but in "Final Fantasy Brave Exvius" there was a collab with the Dragon Quest series, featuring famous monsters from the series as units.... the Dragonlord is one of them, and a 5 Star-7 Star to boot!

Good to hear the NES-version; the SNES-version was waaaaaaaay too quiet when I played it.
Heh. This game forever stuck in my mind the number 65535, the gold max, which it turns out is the greatest value for a 16-bit unsigned integer.

This and Zoma's Battle from Dragon Warrior 3 are why the first 3 DQ's are my favorite.

Ahh, I remember this song. The song is so simple, yet so frightening as it plays on while you are at the Dragonlord's feet.

I have to admit, as an europian i never expierenced a dragon quest game... till i bought VIII. I havent beaten it yet though i have to say im very impressed by the soundtrack. The music is dramatic as a final fantasy battle theme.. but in a different , more classic way. Like music from very old - pre-70s movie. This final boss theme is absolutely brilliant. I look forward to fight the final boss of VIII because i didnt hear a single note from it yet and wonder how koichi is going to amaze me.

This is classic, brings back many memories...Some nasty like how hard was this boss to defeat and other good when I defeat it him.

It's probably also because this series is, for me, the best at giving you a sense of adventure. Finally reaching the final boss is always satisfying.
There's something really unique and tense about final bosses in this series, in part thanks to Sugiyama's compositions. I remember actually being scared to fight the final bosses since they're usually very challenging (unless you grind a lot).

I didn't start playing Dragon Quest until VIII, and it's one of my favorite PS2 games. I also have the remake of V for the DS. I should get back to playing III...

The one and only, Dragon Quest. Sure it looks and sounds primitive now, but what a classic this game is. The JRPG that started it all. I have very fond memories of this game, I grinded like crazy as a kid.
