You want to lead a revolution ? Plz dude... No offense but the more a civilization is advanced and self-relient, the less likely it is to let itself throw into a bloody revolution. Critics, especially internet, would throw your legitimacy down any day. Even presidents have problems into changing things now. The occidental civilization has entered its deepest lethargic phase since the end of the dark ages. Any change can therefore only come from the outside.
Underrated game from the PS era I think. It was really good, and there were some nice music in it.
I played this at a friend's house when I was 13 or so...it was on a copy/burnt disk, but it worked just fine.
I guess insanity would occur as one searches for the truth. Games aren't a good media to find such, as most of the time it's done for entertainment. Though, some designers have put their own thoughts and experiences into the game, which in turn brings about interesting discussions. I find talking to people and reading books to be the best way to fully understand the truth. After all, it's not like we are wearing living gauntlets. Still, I do worry about the meat grinder. That is all.
The biggest thing of all I try to avoid is Corporate Marketing. It's a system invented to allow promotion of media, but it has become a sort of automated meat grinder. It runs and processes people, yet noone is running it. Some bigwigs think they have control of it, but there has been times when Marketing has destroyed those who think they are in control. It could be from too much Ecco and Pink Floyd, but "Welcome to the Machine" has got me thinking several times before. Maybe I'm nuts.
Between Monster Party's ending, and the final bosses to Ecco the Dolphin and Earthbound, it's a miracle gamers who are my peers don't have severe mental shock. Another thing I like are the games that can get me thinking. I think that you can get a great idea of time travel if you'd play both Tides of Time and Chrono Trigger. Both show a nightmarish future and the effects of an alien lifeform on an ecosystem. God, I've played some sick games, thinking back to all those titles.
As for serious stuff in games, I do enjoy such. Stuff like the Giygas battle never bothered me, but that's because I played Monster Party before. The Irate Gamer actually did a video on it, which shows all the ways the game can scar a kid. I wasn't bothered by such things as the skeletons and blood and such, but the games ending scared me as a kid, what with how it happens. Another one that gives a first time scare was Ecco the Dolphin.
I was in sleep mode, so it would've taken a while for me to comment. About the girly games, I actually like those alot. I like strong females, unless the game is poorly done. I had fun with X-2 and was able to put aside the pop stuff, which is actually a very small amount of. I also enjoyed Tomb Raider and older titles like Metroid and Jill of the Jungle. Makes me wonder if that's why I liked watching Powerpuff Girls. As long as the characters aren't fake prissy types, I don't mind.
Hrmm... These comments go WAY off topic, but the music is great. Legend of Legaia is one of my alltime favorite games, with god reason too. The gameplay is superb, the graphics (for that time) where fenomenal in battle and the musical score breathtaking in places. Too bad the sequal they made for the game was #1-Not in any way related to the original #2-Rather less good #3-repetitive.

I also wanted to say other things, but not exactly sure what because of the possibility of having only half the info. Hope I'm not a bother.
HELL YES GODDAMN I LOVE LEGEND OF LEGAIA I loved everything about this game. The music, the characters, the enemies, the battle system ... :D
As for symbolism in games, it's often done either because whoever's in charge wants to enrich the game for art and thought or they want to bring their own experiences into the game. Enrichment was done for Cloud and life experience was done for Giygas. It gives the player an experience that they probably were looking for. As for REAL best game, no such thing. Games, like other media, have different audiences, which in turn have different preferences. No two top 10s are truly the same.
About the magic... Reality draws from fantasy as fantasy is drawn from reality. People often don't understand reality when they discover an element of it, so they make up a fantasy to believe. Likewise, some people will believe in fantasy so much that they subconciously make an element of fantasy a reality. That's one way of how magic works and why there's "paranormal occurances". Because of a natural fear of the unknown, people tend to fear magic. It's best not to get worried over that.
And on note of my mentioning of the loud mouths and the commercialism, it's because of that there are Japan exclusive. The truth is that Japan isn't the only country to create the unique and masterful. Other countries have done equally great games, but they don't get mention. Marketing stomps out those games to make Japan seam like the producers of the weird and grand and America the corporate and intelligent. Marketing also don't pick up on potential triumphs. No reason why, but it doe.
As for Mother, there's alot of people who actually want a story like that. Some want something that is dark and twisted, and the Mother series delivers that. Most of those titles don't get mentioned because in the West, the vocal majority tends to complain about nonsense, leaving the target audience left to wait for their wants. Oddly, stuff that should not be considered appropriate are usually more acceptable than something less obscene, but terrible to those who yell the most.
Epic is a word that now gives mixed feelings for many. It's so widely used that a description is now needed to explain why one would consider something epic. Oddly, it's a departure from the original meaning, which is a category for old tales like Beowulf. As for the talk of games that are Japan only, like Mother, it really isn't a Japan only thing. It appears so because that's how marketing likes to work things. Marketing has alot of control over the majority of "developed" countries.
Square didn't make Legend of Dragoon or Legend of Legaia. Sony made the games.
