Never like the first game, but i love this one
Stellar game, only first played last year. This is my favorite piece of music from the game, love that part that tries to sound like a guitar strum. Loved the 100 lvl ancient cave with all the randomness to it. Worth checking out even now if you enjoy old JRPGs!
So much praise for the sequel. Am I the only one who still loves the original Lufia?

Best VGM 101 was the best music PERIOD from Lufia 2, its how I remember it.
It definitely riffs off of FF battle music. Great! Good to see that there are some musicians not wholly consumed by the chimera of originality.

You mean for the bass? Because this one has only a set of 'b' notes, while most Final Fantasy battle themes (most notably, Final Fantasy IV) has 6 'a' notes and 2 'g' notes, so no, it isn't a copy at all :P
The beginning was definitely a copy from final fantasy.
Easy, back in the day graphics weren't the selling points for games, so they focused on the storyline and music to bring in players

i always thought sega genesis had better action games than snes because games like shinobi 3 just kicked so much ass but rpgs on genesis couldn't generate an orchestra sound and whenever it tried.. it didn't sound too good... but it was always good for rock or metal which i kinda prefer while playin' my action games...but when the GBA came out.. there were alot of good games on there more so than snes and genesis. (just my opinion Nathan Graves).

Get your shitty call of duty out of our RPG's.
Because there was very little the SNES could do graphically, so video games had to be immersive in storytelling. They had to be catchy enough to stay in your mind long after you played them, but also interesting enough to actually pull you in in the first place. And, for the price, they had to be of such quality that players would feel like they got the right bang for their buck. Hence, the wide use of immersive, story-driven RPGs that are still memorable to this day.
I think if anyone loves this version, they'll find the DS version of this (the music, not so much the game) both from the game itself, and then it's arranged version. You'll probably see it on the side bar to your right.
Because if Snes shitty processor (it's fact!),and a powerful sound chip,developers had no choice but to make RPGs. Not all developers could program shmups and action games for it, because the action slows down to the Snes' inability to handle too many sprites on screen. Look at Gradius 3 and Castlevania 4.RPGs didn't require developers to show large number of sprites on screen. They were confined to RPGS for most of the time. For the record Snes processor was 3.58 mhz and Genesis was 7.67 mhz.

With limiting technology compared to a PC at the time, RPGs and action/platformers were really the easiest to make. At least that's what makes sense to me.
Probably the soundchip. I mean, Secret of Mana, Chrono Trigger, and Earthbound? Holy hell. And that's just the tip of the iceburg.

@Arc13 1. SNES had limited graphical capability, so they were able to focus more on story. Making RPG was the best excuse for a developer to craft a big, old, open-ended medieval story out of it. 2. The battle systems were easy to craft, since it's a text-based adventure with fancy sprites. Hardware-demanding real-time processes found in adventure and fps games were of little worry for this genre. 3. Final Fantasy for the NES/MSX motivated competition, and SNES was the chanced battleground.

@iliazero Lufia 2 was the last game I ever bought for SNES. I think it was also one of the last ever made for it in the USA.
@aznbreakerjrey It takes a lot more time to custom creature 2D sprites pixel by pixel, and create an entire 2D world than it does to add textures to a computer generated 3D world, and characters thrown together on a computer program. Developers are just too lazy now to actually TRY and make something good.

I remember my first battle with the Egg Dragon..this theme lasted an hour long, no complaints! LOVE IT
Not a lot to add here, but more recently, Square's The Last Remnant had some of this vibe going on -- an 8.2-8.3 quality mid-budget game with some interesting mechanics, plus up-tempo music that actually wouldn't be out of place in a top tier offering. Hmm, I still have my Lufia II cart, too...I wonder if it still has my save with a complete Iris Set?
I started playing this game again, and god this song rocks. It sounds like you're fighting something tough! A side bar, I think I figured out why the newer FF's aren't quite as good as the oldschool ones....too realistic, fantasy rpg's are more interesting when you get to your your imagination more, because, well, they aren't real.
@axel5735 FF3 was amazing. Terra's Theme/Overworld music is amazing. And I have got to agree, besides Tidus's whining voice. FFX was great, love every bit of it.
@Beremor I'm just warning you that if you make a comment as vague as "FF anyone?" A ton of fanboys will go off at you thinking your another person who believes FF is the only legitimate JRPG franchise out there. Meh, though I have been playing games since I turned 4 I'm too young to know the difference between the bit ages... =P

@KainPyrotic They are linked story wise. The first game starts with a group of people on the flying island, then you play as decendant to one of them. In the second game, you play as the group in the begining of teh first, thus making game 2 take place directly before the first.
@djxphactor Yeah, no kidding, I never did manage to beat that game, and haven't touched the 2nd one even though they don't seem to be linked story-wise (At least the start) still don't want to spoil anything... K, I guess I better get to it then, huh?

@NarutoOwnsU Well, TBH, Alundra would be the game that has the hardest puzzles for an RPG on the PS1. If you haven't tried that game yet, take a look at the puzzles on there. They are incredibly hard!
both lufias were classics, i love how the stories tied into each other
I'm playing it right now on a SNES emu on my PSP. It's really good, the music is epic and I've probably spent 20+ hours on the main story so far :D
i really loved the first game. beat it quite a few times. i heard the second one improves on many things but that some boss battles are easier than they should be. How good and how long is this sequel?
By far the best puzzle rpg ever made. Even zelda had nothing on the hard puzzles this game had. Well designed masterpiece. Also remake is being made on DS!

Actually if you notice a lot of elements are strongly inspired in that game from Super Nintendo RPGs(seriously, I can't say how much of that game got it's ideas from it's previous entry FFVI)! So if the 2 are alike it isn't very unlikely that they are similar? Coincidence? I think NOT!

It sounds like Birth of a God (FFVII) took a little from the opening of this song, although it's probably just coincidence.

you dont get the fire dagger from the tower with gades.... you find it in the tower where you fight Camu.
That one's not too hard if you get the Fire Dagger for Maxim from the tower where you fought Gades the first time. Guess you know that now anyway, so whatever ^^ But I agree with you, one of the best games ever, and so is the sound :)

YES! <3 I love this game, I love this song, I wish I owned a copy to complete it but this was back in the rental days, so glad I got this game from a random pick up. To my surprise when I found that Lufia II was a prequel to Lufia I so when I played I, it was really weird. lol
the problem with current-age games is that they're too focused on graphics, ignoring gameplay in the progress. to tell the truth, i don't care shit for graphics quality, gameplay is WAY more important. the only really important thing about graphichs is all-round style, not sheer quality.
Oh I have an emulator, but my morals around it is that I had to own the game and something happened to it before I play it on an emulator. That's unfortunately what happened with my LufiaI game. Sis is still angry because she was at Doom Island before it camped out on her and the file got deleted. Not a hard game usually but still.

I only grew up with the first one and wouldn't mind playing the second one. What needs to be done is a card or whatnot with both of them if possible on it. That's just IMO of course.

This is by far one of the best boss battle themes of all time imo this is one of the only RPGs That could Rival Final Fantasy Music.
Aah, memories. I played this many years ago. One of the best games I know. The puzzles could be very hard but some of them had really simple solutions.

Definitely one of my favourite boss tracks of all times... :3 I miss Lufia II now. The puzzles in the game were, when I originally played it (at about 11) probably the hardest puzzles I'd ever encountered in a game, and back then I didn't really have a walkthrough; just digging through old Nintendo Powers and praying the answer was in one of their help sections XD
It's not really underrated. It is rated pretty highly across the internet actually. But you're right, they don't make 'em like they used to. Lufia II is one of the best RPGs ever made, with awesome music, wonderful puzzles/dungeons, awesome characters and a great story.
It's rated highly, but nobody ever talks about it, so it's underrated. There are no videos on youtube about how amazing Lufia 2 is except a video uploaded this month and it's pretty short and not in-depth

i encountered graphic errors when i reached the 99th floor of that weird cave though that's normal if you play it running on an emulator this song is the best rpg song in the whole world the one that follows is against the sinistrals

Man, that puzzle took me a full half hour of experimenting. That was a first (and only!) for me; normally I blow right through the puzzles.

My brother bought the SNES with this game together(one package) back in '92. This game never got the respect that it deserved imo. This one actually set the tone a bit with really hard puzzles(Mountain of No Return, Worlds most Difficult Trick*cough*). Even if people can do these easily now, when I was only 7; it took FOREVER to complete this game. It was that hard. Still, amazing for its time.
this ís such a great game, one with a very deep story also serious and sad the ending made me cry when i played the first time i was younger but i think maybe it would even make me cry today dunno^^

I never played much Lufia but it has some great music. Damn, I love SNES RPGs. I wish more of the ones that came out these days had that same energetic music.
Back in the days, this was the shit. Other RPG's didn't have a tune this rocking by then. (if you compare to how awesome it is to other super nintendo rpg's) It really got you into the hype that "FINALY A BOSS FIGHT! :D" Was coming instead of some boring dark music... it rocks out your ears and makes you just want to play it over and over <333
This game is great and very original. And this song is really a masterpiece, is one of the best 25 video games songs without any doubt. I really love it!
