A collection of my favorite videogame music. Note that most of them are from games I played so I might miss some great ones from games I never played.

i could argue there isnt 1 game like this even today. The n64 one has no reputation meter, its in 3d. Tactics ogre is all grid based movement which I didnt like as much. There was no game like this since this.
Not counting Ogre Battle 64 since it's the same series, the closest I can think of is Soul Nomad for the PS2. It's a tactical RPG that's sort of similar in that your units consist of small parties rather than individuals, each with an assigned leader and their actions in battle play out randomly based on formation. However, the tactical part of combat plays out in a traditional turn-based fashion on a grid, and unit leaders can learn spells and abilities that can be used in addition to simply attacking. Mission objectives are also more traditional, but the game has some other interesting mechanics such as units having passive abilities depending on the "room" they're placed into, some branching paths, and items that have various effects like attacking townspeople.
This brings back so many good memories. One of the best RPGs, and by far some of the best music compositions from that era. I want to play this game again now!

This song is a great example of how music is language. I hear such an amazing story in this song.
This game was just too awesome... I need to make one similar to it... Alright let's get to work... should be ready in a few years! Now what are the chances that someone replies to this comment in two or three years asking if it's ready and I reply "Yep, here it is!" or at least "Yep, working on it now, check it out!"... Guess we'll see.

Hah! I've been working on it a lot lately because I knew this day was coming. Still a work in progress but it's coming along. It's too bad the Kickstarter for Chronicle of Ruin didn't work out (another guy's Ogre Battle like game)

Well it's been 3 years and this project isn't gonna be done anytime soon, I almost gave up on it - serious flaws in how I planned everything. But I don't want to see this thing go the way of other similar projects! One day I want to play it - one day it will be finished, mark my words! Check back again in another 1-2 years! XD

One of my absolute favourite games to the SNES! :) The strategic decisions, the tactical battles and the large maps with hidden details and subplots were all amazing, but to be such a detailed game and also revolving around such an incredibly awesome story... it was, for the lack of a better term, complete. No bullshit DLCs that were needed for certain stories to be resolved. On top of that.. 13 possible endings based on if you were good or evil or kind of good or kind of evil or... gaah!! XD

Thanks a lot for this... I'm trying to make an Ogre Battle inspired level in Littlebigplanet 2, I'm composing this song ( you can make your own songs in this game ). I always thought it was the best in the entire game. I don't know if I'll be able to make the whole fighting mechanic that Ogre Battle has but I'll certainly use the song!
I've been hearing this quite often in Tactics Ogre PSP.

SupraDarky, you freaking rule for putting this on here. I downloaded this game as a ROM like twelve years ago just because the name sounded kind of interesting and it became one of my favorite games of all time. I could go on all day about what an incredible breakthrough achievement this game was compared to anything else that existed at the time of its release.
To me, this sounds like something straight out of pokémon.

Yes, this game had epic music! It had to in order to get you into the battles because wars always had epic music!

I didnt like this game the first time i played it. But thats because i didnt understand the system. Once i mined the internet and figured out how to manipulate alignment, charisma, and reputation i became a huge fan
I dont know if this game is an acquired taste or no b/c a lot of the ppl i have spoken to about it either hate or love it, but this game basically introduced me to the strategic/RPG relm and i absolutely fell in love with the game and the genre itself. A Classic with an underrated OST to boot.
I imagine some people are turned off by not being able to directly control your units during an engagement, not getting that that's part of the strategy.

I'm pretty sure you don't have to fight the plant boss first. You can come back for him after doing a bit more exploration elsewhere.

I played this game briefly on an emulator, but I never realized this track is IDENTICAL to the N64 version of the same track. Same sound quality and everything! Awesome track, too.

yea i had that problem on a few games, but the most noticeable was Metroid Prime, GOD, I REALLY LOVE METROID BUT I JUST DONT GET INTO PRIME. i failed like 3 times on the first boss, that huge plant or whatever it is, then i turned the cube off and never touched the game again. im sorry for the game, because i think when i would be able to actually PLAY it i'd like it a lot more. damn im REALLY SORRY for that because Super Metroid is my 2nd favorite game EVER and the other 2Dmetroids rule too :/
