@CraftyGui Blue Rescue Team has slightly different instruments because it's on the DS. Generally DS has higher quality instruments but some people really like the sound of GBA sound hardware
It's still perplexing that a spin-off game ended up having a better storyline than all of the core games including Platinum and Black and White 2, and a soundtrack that rivals the main series. Even if this series wasn't canon, Mystery Dungeon blue rescue team is one of my favourite games in the series.

Can we just take a moment to appreciate that it takes 3 minutes and 26 seconds for this song to loop? And given that it was made in early 2000s how impressive that is? Or is it just me
Probably not too impressive when you consider the songs are stored as midis (or a similar format) rather than actual audio files. The difference is like playing a cd vs having a musician sit in front of you and play off of sheet music; the instrument is a pre-programmed sound that's part of a "soundfont", the system itself is the musician, and the sheet music tells the musician how to play the song in real time. Because all you need to save are the "instruments" and "sheet music" the actual complex audio data that makes files like mp3 so big can be safely ignored, allowing you to get more bang for your buck in terms of storage. Atomic Robo Tesla wow, I had no idea that’s how it used to work. Thanks for the information ! You can see just how far they pushed the limit of the old DS card with all these tricks. The game is barely between 50 and 100 MB if I recall correctly.
@XxSpaceCakexX Well it's not a trick, it's just how music used to work in games back then, even the original super mario theme and the donkey kong country tracks on the snes all use soundfont based music, it's just that the nes was limited to mostly beeping noises. However, there are a number of ds games which use actual audio, but often the tracks are very compressed as a space saving measure (such as Elite Beat Agents or The World Ends With You) so they dont always have the best sound quality.

I remember the sleepless school nights playing this dungeon. It was a pain in the ass, but the feeling of beating it was amazing. It was then fallowed by tears because of the ending. I really hope for another PMD game soon.

God, this track is so awesome. Not only does it fit incredibly well storywise, but it really gives the feeling of finality, this is your final adventure with your best friend, but you mustn't turn back. It really invokes the feeling of "you must complete this mission, no matter what." I might like it more than TEMPORAL TOWER, which is saying something huge. And I'm still stuck on it. :) Also I just found out that it's 25 floors before the halfway point. Getting killed by the STUPID aerodactyls on floor 23 suddenly has so much more weight. *darn*

I got it thinking it would be like pokemon red which I played at a friends house. 10 or so years later and that was one of the best mistakes of my life. This dungeon and the Aerodactyl that practically spammed Agility to go Mach 5. And not only Aerodactyl but also any other Pokemon that surrounds it gets the boost from Agility. And beging surrounded while watching the other Pokemon keep pelting you with moves while all you can do is watch. Better pray to the RNG Goddess or you'll have some fun times ahead.

It has been so long yet I still remember as if it was yesterday. I love these games and even now replay them at times. I miss this so much... The first PMD games were so serious and as teenager back then I loved them so much. The Team went through so much pain and hardships but stood up again and again. I felt like they resemble the time of finding yourself and fighting for your goals. I wish I could turn back time.

My GOD this dungeon was a pain playing this game as a 10 year old... Of course I replayed the entire game recently and it was far easier. Very nostalgic but it never has quite the same magic as when you're young :(
This game just ripped my heart out and stomped all over it. Dang, PMD is touching. Your partner is just so supportive and (SPOILERS) the whole time going through this dungeon I didn't know what to think. I knew you could probably stay with them anyway at the end of the game but it still felt like saying goodbye to your best friend. And the music just captured that feeling perfectly in my opinion.

Ah yes... This dungeon. Jesus christ, the amount of frustration that was placed into here... thanks to the god damn dungoens not being random on reset, it made things 5 times harder. Had to reset the game like, 2 times in order to get past this god damn dungeon... and don't get me started on monster houses...

Dialga's Fight to the Finish, A Wish for Peace, Don't Ever Forget, and Vast Ice Mountain Peak come to mind. Sky Tower is definitely up there, though.
PSMD Dark Matter 2 sounds good to me.
An Average Pichu if i had to make a top 5 i think it would be: 5. Zinnia battle theme (OR/AS) 4. Dialga/Palkia battle theme (diamond/pearl) 3. Temporal Tower (PMD2) 2. Dialga's Fight to the Finish (PMD2) Those 2 sound very similar but i think it's still important to separate them from each other because dialga's fight to the finish is extremely powerful and great because of that but temporal tower is so deep and emotional. when it starts playing after grovyle's death you feel like you're flying through the dungeon and that there's just no way to fail. And the top step would go to sky tower as i said. this is so great. it's just complete. it has everything. the game came out 10 years ago and i'm still listening to it regularly. just incredible! it gives you hope, gives you that "one last time" or "let's finish this" feeling but has still such a great rhythm that you want to dance to it. but of course 5 songs are far too few to acknowledge all the great pokemon soundtracks out there. even in the first mystery dungeon i could give you about 10 to 15 that are absolutely awesome. but as i said if i had to break it down to 5 these would be in it. BTW have a look at the "dialga's fight to the finish remix" on the channel of LOrbSheddy. it's the best remix out there in my opinion :)

Everyone has it wrong. People say that just one Aerodactyl is bad. I get to the biggest room on the first floor and I get a monster house. Aerodactyl used agility everthing hits 4 times per turn. There are 5 Venomoth who all use silver wind and get's a boost on every single one. I lost to this place with a action replay on because this happened to me. I closed my game and started to cry. lol~

(Blizzard Island theme has four PMD1songs together: Mt. Freeze, Sky Tower, Mt. Thunder, and Thunder wave Cave.) I Love Blizzard Island's theme, so running across this... Do they still sell this game? It came out when I was like... 7.

Oh wow this song :') god I remember playing the game and getting to the final dungeon for the first time and this song haunted me for so long after, it really conveys the emotions of the main story's climax, I mean the beat is quite upbeat as a lot of PMD tracks are, but the violins and the flutes (I think, Im not so good with instruments), and the bit where the drum beat disappears and just leaves the violin to play that haunting tune really gives this track a sense of destiny and finality, with even a hint of melancholy realusation that this will be the last adventure with your partner pokemon....I could genuinely mong out to this song all day, its a great piece of music <3

@foxbear60 Well you still could risk the chance of stepping on a sticky trap and making the reviver seed useless. I always made sure to bring apples as well as reviver seeds when I played. That way I'd have to be extra unlucky to be stuck with only grimy food and sticky items. ^^;

*Potential spoilers (?)* Basically wall I could think of when playing to this song is that it was my last dungeon I would be exploring with my best friend. I was crying off and on throughout this dungeon. Just think how much I cried at the ending. I already loved Cyndaquil before the game but I had even more emotional attachment to him after all that we've been through.
Godammit, those Aerodactyls were more difficult than Rayquaza himself.
Terrible yet hilarious balance design. All for the good time though, the Venomoths and Aero's made it much more memorable.

I hated the Aerodactyls when I played it as a kid. They were always the bane of my existence. Now, replaying it 15 years later, they're not so difficult. Still really tough Pokemon to encounter but not as tough as I remembered. The theme made it so worth it though. Even when as a kid, I didn't appreciate music as much as I do today, this theme was always my favourite for the longest time. And replaying Red rescue team recently, the moment this theme started up, I was flooded with nostalgia.

Red Rescue Team was the first game that brought me to tears. I beat it on an airplane, was halfway through the credit sequence, when everyone had to turn off all their electronic devices. I missed the cutscene at the end of the credits, if there was one. DON'T SPOIL IT PLEASE! Have 't beaten it since... Such an amazing game...

Did anyone else end up preferring the Mystery Dungeon spin off games to the actual series? Beautifully crafted sprites and areas, excellent music, gameplay that I enjoyed more than the standard turn based Pokemon setup, wonderfully written stories and relatively believable dialogue. Simply perfection.

I like Mystery Dungeon more than the main games by far. I just wish there were a couple more Mystery Dungeon games. I don't really like the new 3D style of the two new ones.

I don't exactly see a point in playing all 4 for the graphics to be honest. It's the good story (that sadly repeats itself every game) and the music for me.
It's a gorgeous story, but honestly? The music and raw emotion really make these games top notch. I can recall beating this game and crying over that ending. This music still brings me near tears.
If they followed 2d with the new ones id be all over them. Sadly, 3d didnt really capture me. Id still rather go back and play BRT/EoS.
But apart from the style that may not appeal to many I think that Super Mystery Dungeon is a beautiful entry.

I definitely do. I feel like the Mystery Dungeon series addresses the "feelings and adventure" side of the Pokemon universe better than the normal cannon, and I also feel like it's held a place in a lot of gamers' hearts because of how well it addresses that "feeling" side.

100% I think explorers is the best pokémon game by a wide margin. Type coverage, and exploiting weaknesses with relatively limited power points makes the standard rock paper scissors-type combat much more interesting than the main series games in my opinion. Not to mention that many of the dungeons in the games are very difficult, something all of the main series pokémon games lack without severe self imposed restrictions.

@Commander Cobalt 3D imo destroys pokémon games. The games were originally made for a gameboy. Swapping to 3D doesn't fit very well. Rescue Team DX worked pretty well but that's switch where everything isn't pixelated af like on the 3DS.
They barely do anything with it because actually animating them well is beyond their budget/work ethic, so the 3D is pointless to this day. Rescue Team DX is tolerable but honestly the game controls so much worse, some Pokémon blend in to the environments and the sound design for attacks sucks ass. (why is the ember sound at the beginning of EVERY attack now?) I wish they didn’t need to stick to the bland 3D art style and did something creative with the existing sprite art
This was me. The first Pokemon game I got to play when I had a GBA was Sapphire, then Fire Red then Emerald. They were fun but I didn't really play them too much and they didn't really become my fave GBA games. But when I tried Pokemon Mystery Dungeon it has quickly become my favorite game! Maybe it's partly because I like roguelikes, and one of the first RPGs I've played is Chocobo's Dungeon 2 which is a roguelike much like PMD, and also partly because I fell in love with PMD's story which I thought was waaaay better than Emerald's.

Blizzard Island was a mix of a number of mystery dungeon tracks all rolled into one.
Definitely one of the best VGM, above all with a quite poor sound range.
I'm 16 and I still cry when I play through till the ending. One of the best Pokemon games for me :-)
Those hax Duskulls tho. If they get into the wall, and you're in a narrow corridor, you're basically dead. You can't attack the Duskull, or run away.
At least you can have a crisis while listening to some epic music.
What about Time/Darkness/Sky's Unburden Drifblim? They hit twice with Ominous wind, which increases their speed, enabling them to attack again, increasing their speed more, letting them attack again... resulting in 8 attacks in 1 turn. Then you realize that you're 3 party members down and don't have the range to take it out this turn, and die.
Even in walls they die to moves like Thunderbolt. If not, set everyone's tactics to "get away from here" and gtfo. Drifblim is an ass, indeed. So GET ONE YOURSELF. Even better, link Defog and Ominous Wind, so it'll almost never miss. You're welcome.

I personally think there needs to be a remake of Blue Rescue team Like 3DS graphics but same gameplay (like the personality quiz, hunger, etc) I know it can be played on the 3DS, but its been what, 8 years now? Oh god. (and maybe while they're at it explorers of sky in the Wii U ohhhh~)
Why thank you c: Honestly I think its just a timer to complete the dungeon. Ive seen it before when I took an extreme amount of time in sky tower. Basically if you let it continue you will be blown out of the dungeon and have to restart.

@Ash Ketchum Hm for some reason I don't recall the "Wind blowing" in Red & Blue rescue, I'll have to go back to those games and check. To be fair they already have "plushes" of 5 Sinnoh Pokemon that you could use to decorate the front of your home post game. Heck you even SEE Munchlax during the post-game, along with them talking about the "legendary Lucario". So Nintendo probably already created all the Sinnoh's at that point. Seeing how even Pokemon XD which came before the first PMD games even had Bonsly in 3D. Remember the codebook even advertised the Lucario movie, so they probably already had him in mind,
Lucario was created very early, yes, but that doesn't mean all of Sinnoh was already created : it was really early, it wasn't even the last season of the Hoenn part of the anime. Therefore I doubt they had created Arceus back in Blue/Red Rescue Team. After all, Mewtwo is there said to be the strongest Pokémon in the world. And that was no more the case when Arceus came. (Though it's still discussed even now.) But yup, I don't quite remember this wind in Blue/Red Rescue Team, I wasn't sure when I wrote it. And I just realize that it's one more thing that is absent of PMD Gates to Innfinity...Anyway, I'm actually quite glad that all of those games' mysteries haven't been found out yet. ^^
@Ash Ketchum To be fair many people have stated to have spotted Salamence in the First movie when hundreds of flying Pokemon flew around near the beginning; arguably rumors though. BUT, Regigagas (however you spell the Regi king) actually was in the 3rd movie in Japan as a statue and even had several Unknown surrounding it. Why it was removed in the western version is a mystery to this day. You can you-tube it yourself though. Sorry if they came forceful though, just saying Japan loves hinting at new Pokemon all the time. But I think we can both agree that PMD Gates kinda sucked.
@thatkidd yo From what I've seen, Gates to Infinity was only ass because it didn't have any content. If they're remaking this game they'll have TONS of content, especially post-game.
GTI didn't have any content, but it also deleted some of the most important features for a Mystery Dungeon (Hunger, and IQ). I'd far better like to have a Blue/Red Rescue Team remake than a GTI one.
@Toxic thats very true. GTI did lack a post story game unlike its predecessors: red/blue and time/darkness/sky. Im hoping they don't turn the "extra" post story content into dlc.
@thatkidd yo To be honest in red rescue team I would be glad to finish battling Rayquaza because the post-story content was amazing. From what I've seen, GTI's post game is just where you put the game down because there's little no nothing left to see.

@Toxic go for it man. Ive played it like 6 times. Try recruiting ho-oh then make him the party leader. After that, talk to spinda and you'll get a scene that you won't normally get talking to him with Pokemon that isn't ho-oh

It meant time in the dungeon was running out. So basically the dungeon had a time limit. If you waited, the gusts of the winds would intensify and you would eventually be blown out of the dungeon.
Is it a real timer or is it based on the number of steps ? I always though it was based on the number of steps you made, but now I don't know anymore.

I completely agree. I would have loved to see that! Especially since I still haven’t played BRT/RRT yet. People get so hung up on graphics and sound design. Seriously, as someone who is not affected by overwhelming nostalgia, both the 2D and 3D styles are great. I had just as much fun with GTI and SMD as I did with EoS. One is not better than the other, anyone who says otherwise is skewed by the happy memories they made as kids. Here’s hoping that this series continues on the Switch, crossing my fingers for E3 or a direct announcement this year!

Best spin off game that I have ever played.
Mystery dungeon was honest to god my first ever pokemon game! The nostalgia is through the roof with this one!
*wipes away nostalgic tear* Ah, all the memories..
I remember the first time I heard this soundtrack in PMD:BRT, I was stunned at how intense yet delicate it was. It's incredible how at first listen it sounds very happy and joyful, but following the story, it carries a much deeper, somber note that just played with my emotions time and time again. The idea that you and your best friend were to venture where no one else could, to the sky, where you knew very well that it could be your last adventure, and that your return mattered not, was incredibly powerful. If you succeeded, the world continues. You and your best friend must save the world, at your own loss, and you know you won't make it back. To this day every time I listen to it, I remember the amount of times I had to repeat the dungeon to beat Rayquaza, but also that I didn't mind, because it gave me another opportunity to hear its fantastic music. I will admit that the first few times, it made me tear up, but I truly appreciate the incredible emotional influence that the story and track evoke. This soundtrack is simply magnificent. Nothing less.
Everybody that plays the game to a decent amount of completion agrees with this: the soundtrack of the 2d mystery dungeon collection is so damn memorable.

Delta Zerda Ninjask and Shedinja don't even remotely resemble ninjas. Or at least, Greninja looks more like a ninja than those two do. Even then, there can be more than one Pokémon based on the same things. Hariyama and Emboar are both sumo wrestlers. Slowking and Tsareena re both royalty. Hitmonchan and Crabrawler are both boxers.

The most perfect series ever, even gates to infinity wasn't that bad. And even though gates to infinity gets a lot of hate, you have to admit that it was fun when you played it.
I agree with you on the last point. I lost my copy of GTI (my sister left my 3DS games on a plane uvu") and I bought a new one three years later, but it just didn't have the same appeal. Maybe it was because I was really sick when I played it the first time, or maybe it's my poor attention span exaggerating its flaws; I have no idea. I could also never get through Super Mystery Dungeon (the story was really boring and a pain to follow sometimes), but my sister (who finished the game three days after getting it) claims it was really good. However, I've replayed the Explorers series five times and the Rescue Team ones twice.
This is was my very first DS game when DS was released recently! Man, that was such a long time ago, nothing but nostalgia now. But I am proud to say that this was my first handheld game and I am glad I picked it up. It made changed the way I viewed portable games.

@Echo Ambiance It depends on which game from the main series. X/Y was superb except for being somewhat one dimensional. Emerald, despite being highly overrated also had an epic story, but it ended too soon.
The mystery dungeon games are fun but sometimes their stories can get a bit copy/paste. Take the whole "go through this part of the game without access to helpers or the town" segment found in each game or the whole "your character has to leave once the story is done, but never mind because you get to come back anyways" ending.

I'll tell you the feeling I got from this theme when I heard it. There is this certain sensation of inevitability and great scope to this song. In the story, you and your best friend are going into the world of the clouds, and you fully expect that you might never make it back alive. And yet, what you are doing is greater than yourselves. I truly and wholeheartedly say that simply through the emotions of events like this, the PMD games have by far the most gripping and touching storylines I've EVER experienced in video games. And seeing as I've been around since the early days of the NES, that means something.
Better words can not be spoken. I must heartily agree with your statement, along with adding this in: PMD brings real emotion because you are in an unknown place in a strange body, you get attached to your partner who you took care of and protected through everything, and you, the character, which we protected and trained to be powerful. People hate to see so many benevolent creatures so sad, which makes us cry even more.

I also cried a lot during the ending song of Blue Rescue Team, and this song here makes me remember a lot... I also cried very much during the dissappearance of my character at the Time Tower, in Explorers of the Sky. But I just don't like the story of Gates to Infinity...Yes, I felt sad at the end of the story, but I can't even remember it. This was touching, but far less than the previouses games. I'm under the impression that they just have made another storyline with Kyurem, in order to respect the spirit of the PMD games, and then that's all. You can't even recruit all Pokemon like before. It's so much casualized that I had very fex fun playing it, and just a little sadness at the end. The only thing that I felt during the credits was nothing. I was just thinking "Am I not supposed to cry? Is it not sad?". But I think I couldn't identify myself with the character in the game. And this is what makes this game, in my point of view, the worst of the three PMDs.

It hurts alot more, when you can feel into the character, like you actually are him. Just think about, if you were that to happen for real, there'd be no music, but the fact, that you have someone as a friend, who knows about you and wasn't transformed. Almost like living the impossible...

You could emulate it if you're fine with that. Full screen, no frame skipping, optional speed-up, multiple saves, never lose your cartridge, never have to charge your system, much higher volume possible (I always hated how quiet my GBA was when I was listening to this. xD), and a bunch of other reasons.

All a matter of opinion. I felt like your partner was more supportive... heck, more NECESSARY in R/B. like... You're on your own in a strange new place with no one else to explain the customs or... ANYTHING. You and your partner decide to pave your own path through determination and mutual friendship. What I hated most about Wigglytuff, Chatot and the guild is that they're FORCED on you. You don't choose your own path, they demand you join and then take your money. A bit lame, in my opinion...

Time/Dark/Sky had improved gameplay but suffered badly from an extremely whiny, pathetic partner and other annoying NPCs like Wigglytuff and Chatot. =(

I loved this place for all the gummis that littered the floors. I would end up going too much to where it depleted the gummis and all I found were spikes and money...ugh. The music was worth it, though! Damn Duskull and Shuppet wouldn't come out of the walls for shit... But then Ifrit became a Charizard with Heat Wave and that wasn't a problem anymore!

You have no idea what you're missing. The Mystery Dungeon side series is jam packed with emotion, the campaigns are epic, each in a different way, and their postgames, (except Gates to Infinity, it really didn't have much of a postgame) all have just enough extra content to make you want to keep playing, without wasting your time. Highly recommended series.

The Music Box is needed in the toolbox to actually be able to recruit them I believe :P but just in the toolbox, not to be used or anything. Apparently having a friendship bow helps on the floors they appear, but the recruit rate is something stupid like 1/1,000.. I'm not sure how much the friendship bow would help this. You just need to get really lucky haha

When i got the game, i made it up to sky tower. It took me 10 trys. My team wasn`t that strong. And the ghost pokemons like shuppet are really annoying. Luckily I beat it. And the music in this game is so beautiful.

I never want to visit Sky Tower again. This was the game that made me realise that not all games are made for you to complete easily and have fun doing so. Some games are made for you to have everything beaten out of you and have fun doing so. When I completed Sky Tower I felt 'Today I am a man'.

It's not that the Pokemon are unbeatable, it's the entire presentation of the monster house itself, a ton of Pokemon showering from the floor above and the music changing. The music is definitely the worst part, especially in dungeons when I listen to the background music for fun (Sky Tower, etc.) and then all of a sudden the song changes, it scared the crap out of me as a kid and still does (childhood trauma). I wish I could mod the game so the music doesn't change in a monster house...

Funny story. As a kid, I died at this stage so much, it was silly. In fact, the only reason I beat it was because I kept trying until I got a run without a single monster house. Somehow, I got into that one out of five hundred trillion chance sky tower dungeon with NO monster house spawn. Crazy.
When I was a kid, I used to have Red Rescue team on my Gameboy and I was at the bit right after you beat Groudon and all that snazz, and that day I had to go with my parents to some shopping mall (We were gonna take a vacation, so we were prepping) and while I was playing (I brought my GB along) and I lost track of my parents, and I'd normally cry till someone finds me, but I was playing the Sky Tower bit and the song was just so amazing that I didn't even care, haha.
With the coming of Swag and Yolo I'd say we're pretty close to losing.

Strangely enough, I beated this level on my first try. That was because I was lucky enough to find Ice Beam in the Kecleon Shop. Taught it to my Squirtle. My partner was a Pikachu. We pretty much defeated all the Pokemon here easily(Even Rayquaza.) All I can say is, best Mystery Dungeon ever.
Sky Tower... it's so hard... even as i was lvl 45 and my partner lvl 47

I played Explorers of Darkness first, so the ending to this one didn't affect me as much (though I didn't really cry at that one either). Still, I did feel more connected to the protags in this game than any other Pokemon game.
It almost feels like you're watching yourself play the game while you hear this ethereal feeling song. I love the Mystery Dungeon Soundtrack!

I have to say, the dungeon games are the only games I've cried at the end of before. It's something to do with the friendship, and keeping your ally alive so they'll keep you alive. It's that feeling of hopelessness you get right when you realize the world's grateful for you saving everyone and thing and all, but you still have to leave your friends, your home, and everything you can remember...

It's bad. 5 starters for you and you partner, 4 are Unova with only Pikachu being native. Around 140 obtainable pokemon, with only a handful being native to Unova. The final boss is a Snowflake. No Cryogonal, a giant evil snowflake. It's not worth throwing money at Chunsoft hoping it's good.
Although I liked mystery dungeon red rescue Team's Sky Tower theme more, this one is pretty good :P But I guess I'm a bit biased cause I grew up with a game boy, haha XD
I hope the new Mystery Dungeon will be as good as this one!

I remember the first time I heard this song in the game, the part at 2:02-3:26 sounded so heavenly to me, it literally made me cry. It was so beautiful, words couldn't describe how I felt. And now that I'm listening to it again, after so long, I find myself crying once again. Nostalgia is truly a great feeling.

Definitely. Actually, I think that Explorers of Time/Darkness is actually my least favorite. Even though Explorers of Sky is probably my favorite, Time and Darkness did so many things wrong. Everything seemed broken.Explorers of Sky fixed everything that was wrong and made it better. Although I will miss the friend zones, Explorers of Sky is probably the best one, regarding gameplay. Regarding story, however, Blue Rescue Team will always win. (Although, EoS's bonus stories are pretty good.)

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon was a good game, kind of underrated. The Time and Darkness sequels were good as well, especially with some smart features that made exploring a smoother experience than rescuing. However, the first red and blue games really delivered some kick-ass music. I will always remember the theme on Moltres' mountain.

It also presents a certain determination, if fate cannot be changed, you should give it your all for your friend and teammate. You want your last memories of him or her to be something amazing. It has a certain majesty in that you are in a tower made of clouds, high above the earth below.

This is the first Pokemon game i really felt connected to. The fact that you are the Pokemon, free to do what you wish in a world without humans. Having to try and relate to other Pokemon and make home in this new world. It's really a beautiful concept and i'll never forget this game.

I know what you mean. I trained my partner and I so much that we were already at level 34 whenever we became fugitives, so it was a piece of cake. However, whenever the story did end and I was going back to my world, I started breaking down, crying "I don't want to leave, I don't want to leave." My favorite part is using all your other team members. My favorite has to be my Azurill, who is now at level 52 or 53 and knows Ice Beam. My starters were Zapster. a Pikachu, and Leafy a Chikorita.

What an amazing storyline to one of Nintendo's great underrated successes. After Assassin's Creed 2 this would have to have my favourite storyline and to listen to this music just takes me back to the old times before the 100 floor dungeons.

No, there's 26. Then there's 10 leading up to Rayquaza. I could be wrong on those numbers, I haven't played it in like a year, and even then it's been like 2 since I went up to, erm, resolve the crisis (spoiler alert XD). I have never even been up the second time to recruit him.

Agreed. However, there's still a lot to explore in the Rescue Team games and it's a good thing you get to come back to the Pokemon world, whereas in the manga, you don't.
The worst thing about monster houses is not the pokemon, but the fact that it removes Sky Tower's epic and beastly music.

Nostalgia.... the memories. This game is probably the best spin-off, no the best pokemon GAME ever. I mean, the challenges, fighting huge legendaries at your 20s, and listening to awesome music. After I beat Rayquaza, not knowing what was going to happen next, I shed a tear, not wanting it to end. But my wish came true, and I still had the post-game to complete. Even though this isn't as popular as the others, Pokemon mystery dungeon 1, I'll never forget!

This is the only thing that I feel PMD 2 was missing. Near the end of the story, an overall soothing and relaxing tune but with a tense melody to represent the finality, the game's story drawing to a close. Just listen. It starts out so calm, almost like music you would use in a dream. It gradually transitions to that tenseness primarily by slowly adding more instruments. It all comes together in an epic climax. Yet the tempo always stays pretty slow, keeping that relaxed feeling. Brilliant.

aaaargh, all the damn ambushes that mucked up my voyage through this tower. freaking irritating. Also, as far as the huge fight on the previous page, is it that big of a deal to not fight about it and simply let people like what they like? Personally, I like both RPGs and FPS, they're both good. Who said it was a 'One-or-the-other' thing? :U

To all the people hating on this piece, this is what the music symbolizes: -A rememberance of all the missions that you've been through with your partner -That same partner, who cares deeply for you, has joined you on your final mission -The urgency of the mission at hand, which has been foretold to basically be a suicide mission -The fact that you must journey onwards, as the world is in your hands THIS IS DEEPER THAN YOU THINK.

It makes me dreaming. It's just fantastic. The beautiful Sky Tower around me, this awesome song in the air, the touching story this game tells about... All together, they make me fly up in the sky.
I loved this game. It strayed from the traditional Pokemon games' gameplay and it was really fun.

I wasn't very interested at first and I didn't really want to admit that this game was going to be good because I was pretty stubborn, until a few months later when I finally got to play it. I was absolutely amazed and I still love it just as much as I did back then :)

@iWATCHITT Actually Pokemon Mystery Dungeon 3 did come out. It's a WiiWare game released in Japan about a year ago. I believe it's called Blaze/Storm/Light Adventure Squad. It hasn't been released in the US yet but from what I hear it's complete shit.

I love the internet. The nostalgia factor is so high right now! I remember playing through magma cavern on my parents bed in the summer and it was so freakin hot, it suited perfectly! It was one of the few games that made me cry as a kid. I still have my original save (I got red AND blue version! xD *Nerd Snort*) and i'll never delete it. My character was a Pikachu with a Torchic as a partner. That's it, i'm an an LP of this right now!!! >:D

I literally had to go grab my copy of Blue Rescue team and do Sky Tower again JUST because I saw this video. And then I started a new game, and got to the ending. My handkerchief was wet at the end due to me shedding tears at how AWESOME this game was, and the tearjerker of an ending...Man they really hit the jackpot with this game.

I still question why there's been no Mystery Dungeon 3.(Explorers of Sky doesn't count!) These games are the some of the closest I've ever come to crying in a video game, like up in Mother 3 status.(and I did tear a bit at the end of MD2)

This game was definitely a different kind of experience from the usual games I played and I definitely enjoyed it. The music and story was great and I remember getting stuck at Articuno. However after I got through Articuno I had no trouble zooming past the rest so the game ended quite quickly for me. I also kind of regret evolving and putting my partner aside for a bit to try the other pokemons because then after that my partner didn't have unique speech anymore :V
It restores my faith in humanity to see the top comments of this song not involve some random overused meme.

PMD- Red Rescue Team was one of the best games I have ever played. I got the Blue version for the DS today after I had the red version stolen from me years ago. This song makes me want to cry, it's so beautiful and brings back such good memories of my life before me and my "best friend" stopped being friends 2 years ago... good times.

@wiigamer024 Not true. There are different pokemon in both versions. The soundtracks are composed a different way for Red Rescue Team. For example, Red Rescue Team's Sky Tower soundtrack sounds rather different.

@RoyalGun3r It depends. Blue is for the DS (i have this one, and I love it!) and Red is for the GBA. I'm pretty sure theres no real major difference. The graphics are pretty much the same. Music is probably a bit better one this one, but I think the only real difference is what platform its on.

PMD was the first RPG I've ever owned (I'm more of an RTS fan than an RPG fan), and so when this song hit on my first Sky Tower run it was instantly my favorite RPG song of all time. Then after I beat the game I tried to go back just to hear the music and it said that I needed HM Fly :/ Even after all these years, after playing everything from Castlevania to Call of Duty, this song leaves me in awe when I hear it...
After hearing this song, I decided I must own the game. Best $10 I've ever spent.

The funny thing is, even though i love this theme so much, I used to be afraid of listening to it. Why, you may ask? Because the first time i listened to this and beat the game, I had major problems getting to sleep that night. That music was STUCK IN MY HEAD. So, whenever i ascended later, i always turned off the music. I know now how much that was a mistake.
Btw at 0:55 it sorta reminds me of the theme song to futurama
16 yrs old, loved pokemon when i was like 4 (still a fan but not as big) awsome song, blue and red are better than time/darkness/sky, wish they kept the format for blue and red and passed it on to those rather than change them....
This is one hell of a good game.
I loved climbing Sky Tower, no matter how many times I had to scale it. You knew the end awaited you at the summit, you knew everything and everyone was counting on you, you knew Rayquaza was waiting. This music really fits the emotions that you're juggling around your system at the time, as well as the hero or heroine's. Hence, this song is amazing.

It sounds like an Ocean temple where part of the temple is above water, and the tides change back and forth, which flood some of the rooms, so you gotta wait until it goes back down. That, and those little ping pong background sounds are watery, not to mention the bells. The ocean is a beautiful,l mysterious realm as well.

R.I.P Pokemon, the new games they are releasing aren't like the good old pokemon games, the T.V show has lost its touch and ever since the 3rd generation of pokemon was released its gone down hill :| Games like this one make Pokemon what it is today, we need more Hoenn, Kanto, and Johto based games without all the Sinnoh and the new region for the Black and White games, and with more music like this.

The first time I heard this song I tought I was in Paradise. It was so celestial... I felt happy and I wanted to fly, fly, fly, until I reached the Sky Tower... When I finished the game, I was moved. I started to hear faint battle noises and powerup sounds in my head lol
I remember this, climbing to the top, saving the werld of pokemons. Hearing the music just pepped me up right at the get-go. The music pretty much solidified the resolve to save the pokes from the impending meteorite and the impending doom that came with it. Then after I climbed all the way up... Rayquaza didn't listen to me and tried to murder me. That Jerk, yet rayquaza is one of my favorite pokemons, funny how that works.
There always seems to be a funny comment involving the number of people disliking the music on these things.

This is the perfect music. It expresses the emotion of what the main character pokemon must be feeling. He knows his time with his best friend is coming to an end. It gets closer and closer as he climbs the Sky Tower. To his knowledge, and the players, the adventure is ending... I must say, the first time I was going through this dungeon, I was tearing up.

@Jayfeather223 Right. I put a ton more time into blue rescue team than my explorers or darkness. That's not to say that darkness is bad, but I just liked the feel of PMD1 more. Mostly because I was able to train my bulbasaur to smash through walls and in darkness it was impossible.
I like my blue rescue team much more than the newer ones. I felt much more epic!

I really like the music in PMD. Some tracks are really amazing, like this one. I also like how it is more "emotion" in the tracks in PMD than in the main series.. the main series could really need some serious, emotional music :/
When I was exploring Sky Tower, I had hard time believing it would be the last story dungeon. I fell in love with the music and the moment I saw Sky Tower in the locations list, I tried to get there once again just to hear this sweet melody. To my disappointment, I lacked Fly and therefore access to my favourite maze. :(

I've never played a Pokemon game before, but I'll tell you what, this music is one of the greatest things I've heard out of a video game in a decade. Freakin' awesome. They don't make enough of that nice mid-tempo stuff these days, it's either super fast or so ambient that you can barely make out a melody. This makes me wanna get up and bust a move!

Ya. I do love water types. Though for HG/SS I'm torn. I love Cyndaquil, and in general fire types. Personally, I'm not sure what I'll do. But the advantage against Bugsy, Jasmine and Pryce is a nice one, like you said.

You ever get that sad feeling when looking down at clouds? Clouds....that's how I feel listening to this. Sort of a bittersweet feeling, and at some parts happy, other parts sad, like the intro. This game and the sequel had amazing storylines. I don't see why some ppl hate Pokemon, it is such an original idea. Look at the names of the Pokemon, they are based on what they are and well thought out.

To DaGoobermeister: The non-canon reason Gengar was never shown after that mission was probably a reference or homage to the Mystery Dungeon comic series, in which the main character's rival and enemy Gengar, was killed on that mission [or sometime before that], and the main character ended up leaving this world without coming back. I'm just guessing, but it makes sense :3

I always liked this mystery dungeon better than darkness and time cuz when ur looking for the legendarys they have theyre own dungeon unlike in darkness they just randomly appear makes it annoying and less epic for a legendary to wander around normal pokemon. well thats just my opinion dont hate ;D

I think what you say is partially true. Though Explorers of Time was really good, what I liked about the first one was its subtlety. Going by the whole less is more thing, they left a lot of plot elements up to the imagination of the player, and I think that was a lot more fun, if somewhat more loose.

I remember this game with such fond memories.... but then, after owning Rayquaza first time with Bulbasaur and cheating Sleep Power (:P) my partner became nuller and more void until I finally beat the game, and he was just another useless pokemon T-T I kept playing to keep my partner alive. But now, I rarely play it, and so my partner is dead and gone. Just for this, I will play it to honor him. I feel sorry for Ray, having to get his butt kciked so many times! Same goes for Gengar, too hehehe!!

When I first started playing PMD1, my thought on the story was that it was boring, but by the end I found it to be really awesome (I guess it just starts slow). I really wasn't expecting PMD2 to surpass it, but it did. I was very happy.
Avicied here. The storyline of PMD2 is far more suspenseful. There's actually pokemon out to hunt you down for a while, and you can only keep running and then you don't just leave at the end...if I go on further, it'll be a spoiler.

Avicied here. The most beautiful Poke'Music I've ever heard, hands down. No exceptions, not even Rugia's song (Romanized spelling I can spell right). It's filled with so many emotions, though mostly sadness. I remember when I first bought this game. I got to Sky Tower, I loved it so much that I started humming it. When I got to the flute solo at 2:05-2:20, I started crying while humming, and I thought, "why am I crying?" Because it's so heartfelt. As always, Pokemon has the best music.

Digimon isn't a lame copy of pokemon, there completely different. Digimon have a different world an actual plot etc, Pokemon has much better games but the digimon tv series has nothing on pokemon. People just assume digimon "copied" off pokemon because they both end with mon which isnt the case at all.

This is in reality not the end of the game :) the end comes when Gengar, who was the human Ninetales transformed into a Pokemon, gets you to escort him and releases Gardevoir from her half-life form. (She doesn't remember him, or you, or anything.)

i LOVE this highly underrated game. according to IGN, this game and mystery dungeon 2 got rated 6.8-10. this is a extrodinary game that is just great. i was a Pikachu and my partner Mudkip. ahh, the memories. fining caterpii, pwning team meanies (wtf?), pwning zapdos, pwning alakazams team, runing away as a fugitive because of gengar (what a dumbass), and going to the best part of the game with the best and beautiful sounding music, the Sky Tower.
I saw a screenshot of PMD3 with Giratina's Origin Forme, alongside a Riolu and Pikachu in a dungeon. So yes, it's there.
The fugitive moment is what really caught my attention in PMD1. But the Sky Tower has the best music.

Overall, in my opinion, this is the best music in PMD 1...:0 I think the dungeon music is better in PMD 1 than PMD 2, but the other music, like the Dialga boss battle one makes up for it..

This dungeon's music is soooooo epic. I like the part where you hear the bells. The Aerodactyls and the dragon-type Pokemon were so annoying to deal with, but I enjoyed getting through the dungeon otherwise.

This game gets a lot more challenging after you beat the main story line , and I was disappointed by the lack of plot after it was done (which would explain my lack of enthusiasm to continue training to keep up with the hard difficulty settings of new dungeons). Boy oh boy though, I sure did enjoy the whole experience till the end.

I always loved this song. It's like "This is it." kinda thing. It's all sad and yet has a hopeful tune :3 I love it how right before rayquaza destroys the meteor he's says "You know you'll be destroyed to." ANd your partner is like. "We knew that from the begginning, just do it!" And Rayquaza is all surprised and says "well said." XD This is the best song in my favorite spin-off game ((I thought it was better than d/p honestly.))
I think it's actually a berry. If you have the game's case, the instruction booklet inside will have the pic on its cover, and it's a berry. It is hard to see it with the rating in the way, but I'm sure it is a berry.

What I don't understand, though, is that at no point in SSBB at all was this game mentioned. It's a shame too, I would have really loved to hear a remix of one of its songs in the game.

Wow...I'd have to say that Nintendo has done an interesting job composing some inspiring music for a game that's received poor reviews by game critics yet loved by the people who've ignored them and played it anyway. Ever since playing this game, I will never look at Pokemon the same way again. I mean it, this game blew me away in so many ways. Sky Tower is a hauntingly good song, especially since it's something you never forget...in a dreamy kind of way.
