Honestly, this was the worst gen (objectively worst btw. A lot of this game would be unacceptable 10 years later. Bug testers should've been fired for this(still like the game btw)) but damn if it doesn't have a good OST.

I have to agree with them tho I dont know if its nostalgia or not but at least the gym battle theme and the champions theme are still one of my favorite pokemon theme of all time ESPECIALLY the 8-bit version I prefer them over the fire red/leaf green versions

Pokémon Blue Version... my first Pokémon game, bought from a pawn shop. So many memories, I had a Charizard at Vermilion city before I learned about Cut. I eventually progressed on and beat the game. Then I got Silver version (the save didn't work), Gold Version... played gen 3 on emulator. In fact HG was the first Pokémon game I bought new. When I heard about Missingno. though I refound Blue version, it changed the way I see gaming.

Metal Claw really doesn't help too much against Onix anyway, unless you're way overleveled. It'll only do about a third of his health and then he'll take you out with Rock Tomb.

Oh man. I had him in my last slot, like some hidden boss fight for my enemy in case they got through my first five pokemon. He was allways at least ten levels ahead of my other pokemon.

It's because all they had to go on of Mew was genetic material. He was only discovered after Mewtwo was created....or at least I assume that is the accurate explanation.

I was recently listening to the Pallet Town theme. Pokemon Blue was my first RPG ever, and now I barely play anything aside from RPGs. Honestly, this just brings back so many memories... My buddies at school pick fun at me 'cause I'm still playing Pokemon, but I don't care. Me playing awesome games like the Final Fantasies, The Elder Scrolls, Mass Effect, KotOR and a lot more... It's all due to Pokemon Blue. (Nowadays I think Ruby's the best, but I still love Blue more)

The gym leaders were pushovers if you had a properly developed and balanced team of pokemon. They DID have some great battle music though. Just don't use bug moves on Sabrina! They may be "super effective" but Alakazam's Recover is a mega-bitch! I once had a high level Parasect that killed literally every pokemon it fought...but the enemy has no PP limit.

Combine this theme with the beeping sound when your Pokemon is on low health, its EPIC! It will make your heartbeat faster and hope your opponent's attack will miss! God i miss the old Pokemon games, the new one doesn't have the real Pokemon feeling!

I choose charmender for the first time I've played when I was a little kid and had trouble of defeating both the first two gym leaders, since I didn't have any other pokemon that could take the high damage against theirs. Great times.

@Undeafeatedable It was an utterly brilliant move financially on Nintendo's part. Release two games with the same story but stress the point that in order to 100% beat the game you need both, allow better interaction with friends through trading and watch the money flood in.

Red and Blue are where it's at!!!!! One thing i never understood: Okay, you get Red. You beat the game. Your walking around thinking, "Why the fuck can't i get all the pokemon!" You realize, "Dammit, I have to get blue now..." So you save up your allowance for a month trying to get Blue version and another GBC. You beat blue, got all your trading done, and WTF Yellow came out where it has all the pokemon!! I remember getting so mad at myself for goin through all that trouble. Now, I just wait.
@KingTomJoyce, I started out with Yellow. if you think it's hard to beat Brock with a Charmander, try it with only a Pikachu like I did.
having aged twelve years and played all the others, i still have the opinion that red and blue had the most heart and soul put into it. silver was good. i loved ruby. fire red and platninum are great, too. but this... transcends all of them. not because of game mechanics, but because of the music, the sprites, and the story. no end of the world crap (r/s/e/d/pr/pl), you're just trying to be the best, while saving animals from evil bastards and putting them in boxes. oh, the irony.
The game is fucking good, screw anyone who say overwise, i am 25, and i played the red and blue version like crazy when it get out, even if pokemon does have a bad reputation, this game was a very good rpg.

HOLY FREAKING NOSTALGIA BATMAN! I just picked up the new Platinum game, it's very good, but there's just something about Red, Blue, and Green (Japan) that just oozes good memories.
FR/LG remix was downright epic, I remember halfway through fighting *SPOILER* , I just set down my gameboy and did an air guitar solo to it for about 30 secs^^;

Thats why there isn't an original pokemon green, because bulbasaur really sucked. :)
Venusaur is also he only one that can learn draining moves. There isn't one that can really be singled out as universally stronger; it's determined by playing style.
bulbasaur is the worst choice of all, cuz his attack and defense values stinked and he couldnt learn any better attacks, or attacks which give him any advance over an element hes usually weak against. squirtle, though, has better values and can learn (strong) ice attacks which make him effective vs plant and dragon too (he can learn ground attacks too). chairmander is second best choice but i forgot why. venusaur also gets poison element which gives him more weaknesses instead of effectiveness'

This game (the blue version) was the first RPG I ever played. I remember the first time I played it, I did not know how to catch a Pokemon until after I had reached Vermilion City or so. And by then I had a lvl 40 Blastoise and that useless Magicarp I got for 500 bucks.

Supra I don't tell you often enough how much I love you. :P This track was just right to pump you up for the climatic clash against each gym leader. Superb stuff. And come on, Bulbasaur was clearly the best choice! :P
He resists electric and grass. The lack of offense for other grass types and threat of repeated paralysis kinda hurt him in those two. a Poison immunity and Leech Seed never made Koga any harder, though.
Silver and Gold were just as good if not better :3
