Currently when we compare the. Audio of the Mega Drive (Genesis) with the audio of Super Nintendo, although in Super Nintendo we can observe better clarity of instruments of oorquestras, the impression that I have is that there was at the maximum 4 channels of simultaneous audio, already in the 16 bit of Sega exist games that have so many simultaneous sound channels and instrumental speed that take us to another dimension of gameplay.

I've never played or seen any gameplay of Shining Force 2, so when I first heard this elsewhere, I mostly mistook this for an SNES track. This really stands nicely above the music found most Genesis games ♥
I wish Sega would continue making the Shining games a la gems like these. I don't even consider the current games as part of the series. Sure they have upgraded resolution, but the stories aren't as epic and the art consists of fanservice. 😒

Damn. This tune is actually pretty refreshing for a RPG theme. Some of the RPG themes on the playlist tend to get monotonous when listening to a lot of them.
One of the few town themes I actually appreciate. The liveliness of the piece is well-suited for the synthesis used.
I agree this game is one of those games that use both the Yamaha 2612 and the PSG SN76489 chip together.
the song is kind of nostalgic for me, but I don't like Shining Force 2 as much as the first one. this was a little more cartoony I thought.
These old Shining Force games are underrated gems.

In all of my life, I've only personally known 3 people who are familiar with the Shining series. It makes me sad more people haven't played these classics.
The old composers were definitely in touch with knowledge we've forgot... A much simpler knowledge with excellent execution.

One day in a bar I was speaking with a friend's colleague and we talk about rpg . We talk about the firs rpg (no action rpg) who played. My answer was Suikoden I for PS1, the man older than me answered: Shining Force 1. Suddenly silence and a great respect for that man.

I'm so glad this game and Phantasy star 4 was realeased in Sega Ultimate Megadrive Collection. The only Sega JRPG I had was Wonder Boy series while the rest was all arcade games and sonic. This is one of my favourite JRPGs.

I repurchased sega megadrive collection for my 360 not only just to finish getting 1000 easy gscore but to play phantasy star and shinging force series. Worth the money if you ask me, then again I'm an old school lover.

Always loved the music in this game... for some reason the overall sound quality seems so superior to any other Genesis game; it just sounds clear and crisp (this track in particular). The fact the tunes are catchy are a good help too. :)

@BlueScalyCool Well in fairness, for a strategy RPG of this scale with that many characters, giving a personality to each and every one of them would make for an overloaded story. it's enough to give them motivation to join. Look at newer games like Disgaea, you simply construct your fighters. No motivation at all.
@DragonNexus Maybe I am reading into this idea a bit too much, but I've found that concept to be in quite a few Japanese-made RPGs that were made then. But now, the RPGs of today are just flurishing with great stories and personalities. Good examples that aren't Final Fantasy games would be Skies of Arcadia and Lost Odyssey.
@DragonNexus Yeah, fundamentally.. You would never find a novel revolving around SF. The characters were really one-dimensional when it came to their own personal development story-wise.. But each one had thier own unique personality.. So with that being said, in in a sense, I imagine they made the characters as ambiguous as possible, including the main hero (who is usually always mute).. So that the player could relate whatever feelings and thoughts they had about the characters as a whole.
@BlueScalyCool Well if you think about it...the characters in SF2 had no development at all, the story was fairly basic by Ps2 standards (it was a cut above what we were used to for Genesis games) and concept...not sure how to answer that one. SF2 has a lot of nostalgia value for people, I guess. Me included, it was my first SJRPG and I freakin love it even now.

I wish games nowadays were made in a similar fashion to Shining Force, graphically talking, and in terms of simplicity. One of the best RPG's around there... too bad the gaiden series weren't translated to english correctly...
maxletos Mario + Rabbids is a best example for your comment, minus the graphically talking picture (2D face animation when there are any dialogues were shown). You can roam before entering the battle and the battle do in the same map type as where you can roam. Your comment is really old, the game is released at middle of 2017.
I remember being 5 or 6 and playing this game on the Genesis at my aunt's house. My brothers and I couldn't get past the first battle, we over the years we got better and better and to this day I play and beat this game on hardcore at least once a year, usually around Christmas time.

The 90's generation of the 'Shining' series were the best.. The ones that came out later on the ps2 I heard were somewhat bland in concept, story, and characters..

The BEST game I have ever played for Genesis. It was ahead of it's time, and is STILL playable. Amazing that though there are many great games out nowadays, this never ceases to be fun.

@clustro Pantasy Star 4 is amazing as well, equally amazing music. Check out LandStalker as well for great game play and music (same composer for that game too), although I'm sure you already have. SF is still my favorite game ever.
That said, I absolutely love this song... so many memories of playing this game, so so many times. It's got such a great story, and the twists and turns are awesome. This song always reminds me specifically of every cool thing that ever happened in any town. The beginning when Bowie wakes up at home, going to school, buying weapons, finding Oddler, being shrunk down and finding the chess board world, the way that the towns people moved to the music... God this was a great fucking game.

Oh man I remember this game, I'm not a big fan of strategy based games but I loved Shining Force 2, great story, amazing characters, great music. I played this game for 3 days straight when I got it, from the moment I woke up to the moment I went to bed, minus bathroom breaks and food obviously.

Geez. After listening to this song for about 30 seconds, I realized this song has an amazing amount of depth and variety for it's time. Hell, it beats out a lot of recent title's OST's by a long shot. A very nice selection, SupraDarky. Please keep it up!
