A collection of my favorite videogame music. Note that most of them are from games I played so I might miss some great ones from games I never played.

Somehow both Esthar in FF8 and Solaris in Xenogears have this specific musical aura. Perhaps this one is a bit too quirky, well Esthar theme of Silence and Motion is also pretty awkward. But both of these tunes are something you don't get as an aesthetic association in many games. Only Squaresoft- categorically won't call them SQ-E. Only they can manage to make games that have dreamy places like the Gold Saucer, Esthar and the Nautilus in FF13. I didn't get that vibe in FF15. Not my favorite game in terms of tone. But yeah, these modern cities all get quirky music. I wonder why but it somehow works well?

I was expecting Solaris theme to sound a bit hollow based from how the "land dwellers" describe the place; but oddly, it didn't

Kinda sounds like Kefka's Theme with the bombastic drums and dissonant cheerfulness.

Hmmm. Re-listening to this just now....it makes me think of the music played in Alexandria in Final Fantasy 9. Both great games. Both great songs.
The whole setting and backstory make this theme so oddly fitting. Really completes the whole nazi Germany vibe Solaris has going on and makes it feel very artificial. I love this theme for that reason.

Not the song I expected to hear when I remember Solaris. But the song I deserve.
This song embodies blissful, child-like ignorance. None of them really have any idea what their government is up to.

I agree with what someone about parts of this being somewhat ominous; like Solaris, it's not ALL happy-lucky. Like at 1:15, for example.
@Imdeadblind They provide technology for the sentient races to gather at the citadel, to destroy their councils at once and use their data to track down every inhabited planet. Nowhere does the game say that the reapers "create" any life. Which would be strange nevertheless, because they need to use the genetic material from the species to create new reapers, not the other way around. I suppose you just want to see similarities. :p
@Joernboy I saw the questioning of humanities origins to a degree. In ME2 it is discovered that the Reapers are in fact responsible for creating life, all for their own purpose of tearing civilization down again. In Xenogears, Deus is partially responsible for the creation of human life on the planet via Miang. This being said, Deus intended on destroying humanity after its awakening. Deus and the Reapers serve a similar role in this regard. I'll keep rooting through for more similarities.

@Joernboy The similarities are bizarre. I'm of the belief that ME2 was "at least" influenced by Xenogears.

Love this song ah ah... Seriously, it's so ironic... You expect something horrific because their rulers are supposed to be evil... and then... a happy-go-lucky song and normal families in the streets. It shows how much the people in Solaris are... like in a cocoon, ignorant of what really is going on (by the way, did you notice it's a bit similar in FF13... and the place IS called Cocoon, ah ah *frankly, they did got inspired by Xeno, I'm sure of it*).

I liked Xenogears soundtrack... It's really fun to compare game composers. I take a look at this and Motoi Sakuraba or Koji Kondo and sigh. Video game's need music. For me, it makes them stimulating. Aside from the gameplay and story, that is.

There are lotsa better song in Xenogears IMO, but this one's OK too.
