This song all reminds us of the time where we finally reached Bowser's Castle and almost crapped our pants, then came 1:10 and then we crapped.
Just a few differences : At that time, these games was published on cartridges, so they cannot made any DLC-s OR PATCHES! At that time, the programmers had to make their best, they can't just throw out a shitty game with bugs, because the company would suck it really hard. Beside, this game was one of the absolute best seller in SNES, and not just because they gave it with the SNES itself. It was really hard, even with save points (even with ZSNES save cheat:D ) and it was very long...

No 96 exits there are a lot fewer than 96 levels the red levels and almost every ghost house have two exits they both count toward the 96 I don't know if that helps but hopefully it does as this game is awesome!

This is a pretty subtle (in my ears at least) variation of the main melody of the Overworld Theme from the same game. Makes it even better in my opinion, I love those kinds of things.

@LinkMarioSamus Super Mario World let you ride dolphins, moving blocks, and Yoshi!! It was more about returning to platforming than simply trying to give Mario new abilities, which while fun and varied in SMB3, I simply thought they balanced it out much more here and not to mention the boss battles becoming quite distinct from each other (for the most part) which before hand you really didn't see unique bosses in a single platform game. Sure, you had slight varations but world really set a path.
I personally consider SMW to be the weak link in the big five Mario games (SMB3, SMW, SM64, SMG1, SMG2) in many respects, and while soundtrack is one of them, this is certainly better than its Mario 3 equivalent...then again Mario 3 didn't have much emphasis on fortresses or castles or anything. Oh well, this is an awesome song, 'nuff said.

I'm not one to force my opinion on anyone maybe there's just a few jerks out there but this is the holy grail of video games i have an immense collection of all consoles and arcade jamma units, but at the end of the day all of these distractions pale in comparison to what i experienced on Nintendo consoles playing Mario i guess a lot of people will never 'get it'.

when i was little, id get scared and let my dad or older brother play the castles and the ghost houses.
I admit I didn't like the SMW soundtrack much... except for this tune. I think it's the best castle theme of the whole series.
Krooks march (DKC2) is a worthy rival to this one but it doesnt quite give me the same chill down my spine ;)

@Luc0284 The same thing was done with Super Mario 64, also resulting in a blasting success. I wish Nintendo would keep that formula, since it creates a much more emotional bond to the melody itself and the player.

Hahaha, my 20 year old brother grew up with games like Mario... I'm only 13... But I own a SNES and I play the original Mario games all the time :D Screw Call of Duty, Mario is a classic!

I really hated how Nintendo screwed up this in Brawl by making it a techno remix. I always imagined this as being fully orchestrated.

Agreed this has to be the best castle theme in the series! The fortress theme for SMB3 sucks shit... It has hardly any melodies and the use of drums wasn't as effective as the composer thought it would be...

Another theory, you can't enter doors (you know, those you have to press up in front of) with Yoshi. I'm probably wrong though. Hmm, also most castles had parts with climbing, which would make you leave Yoshi behind. Just theories.

Nah, Yoshi was just afraid. He's afraid of ghosts, skeletons, and magickoopas. Explains the Ghost houses too. I actually kinda liked the fact, because it meant if I DID die during a castle (AND I DID, OFTEN), I wouldn't lose my yoshi! : )
