I like to think that Castlevania 2 was a bit ahead of its time with the actionrpg genre. I got this got when i was 6 or 7 I think and at the time me and my brother spent hours and hours trying to figure out what to do. Sure it has some major flaws, like very bad translating and some bad gameplay mechanics, but the music and ambiance make up for it. To be honest, I even liked this better than Castlevania 1.
Whether or not you like the game the soundtrack just might be the best of the series if not all Nintendo, front to back. Just one man's opinion. Just so fucking epic though.

My absolute favorite CV game, I played this game so many times when I was like five years old, couldn't ever beat, still haven't, but damn it was such an awesome game.
Best song in the whole series; that's saying something. It's a shame it isn't in any other games.

Of course you should try it without a walkthrough. You have to suffer like we did at 5 years old without internet help to really enjoy the oddities in this game :-P.

The Castlevania series is known for great music but Simon's Quest has some of the best tunes of all... I never understood why this song wasn't used in more games...

I that it was the fact that there was so much backtracking in the game and it seemed like at some points there was little to indicate what you were supposed to do next, which made it very frustrating at times. Then, when you do make it to the end, Dracula was such and incredible puss.

for some reason everyone hate this game.. i had lots of fun with it when i was about.. 9... doubt i'll have the heart to replay it though.. some great music nevertheless!
This game is made of ass, but the soundtrack has so much win in it that it was a pleasure to play just because of that. All the tracks are good.

thanks u this game is special to me because of memories of not being able to get past level 3 as a kid. But one day I rented it and played someone else's save game (either that or got a password I forget) of someone who had every weapon and I was like "wheeeee!" anyways, yes this is awesome!

It's funny how the second game in a series was usually the black sheep during the NES/Gameboy era. I'm talking about very popular series of course, like Zelda, Castlevania, Mario, Metroid, Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest. There are some exceptions of course... like Megaman 2. :P
Well... technically AVGN hates it, but Rolfe said he personally kinda liked the game. Either way all the music in the game is spectacular and very atmospheric.
I've never played any of the old school Castlevanias, so maybe I'll try one soon.
I agree. I really loved the game too when I was a kid, there's a lot of nostalgia (it kind of scared me a bit too lol). Seeing your name reminds me: I can't believe AVGN thinks this game sucks! :O I agree it has some problems though. :P
I love this song, It's very long and intricate (For an 8-bit song anyway).
