It's been a long time coming, but I finally decided to continue my playthrough of Pokemon. Honestly, it almost got to the point where Pokemon was intimidating me and now that I'm playing Platinum, I realize I can simply enjoy the game without trying to catch 'em all and understand all the mechanics. It's been a fun ride so far and I just got my first badge in Oreburgh, and of course I chose the grass starter as always. The only complaint I have so far is that the whole game feels slow, but apart from that it's good to be back.

If Platinum feels slow to you, be glad you ain’t playing Diamond/Pearl Also Gen 4’s starters are all great, Turtwig rocks but I can’t put them above Piplup or Chimchar, love them all equally

I feel you on the mechanics,it does get to be a bit much in Gen 4 as they did add a lot of new things if memory serves.Is there something in particular that draws you to grass starters?

The beauty of the series is that you can do a complete playthrough of any game and succeed if you just know the type chart, have decent move coverage, and have high-enough levels for all your teammates. Stuff like Natures, IVs, EVs, and whatnot are the kinda thing you only have to worry about if you're min-maxing in the competitive scene. Otherwise, think of it as part of the role-playing experience of what makes the Pokemon you caught unique to you. Glad to hear you're dipping your toes back into the series. :D

@SirenoftheVoid When I first bought Pokemon Red, I thought there were only 2 starters judging by the Red/Blue versions, so discovering there was a 3rd starter that didn't have its own version here made it seem more special to me. That and green is my favorite color.

Spend some time in the underground! It's a great buffer between gameplay sessions.

I definitely understand the game feeling slow. The gen 4 games have notoriously slow battles thanks to the way the game makes hp tick down. Most famously, it can take 30 seconds or more for Blissey's hp bar to go from full to 0 after you hit it with an attack that faints it in one hit.

Platinum is actually faster in several areas then diamond and pearl.

The game starts slow, but once you evolve your starter into its 1st evo, the game picks up a bit.

It's good that you chose Platinum. Diamond and Pearl are *way* slower! =P Great to hear you have fun with the games. =)

Yeah, my main problem with Gen 4 is that the games can be unbearably slow at times, which leads to unbalanced pacing. I do love the Sinnoh region and, quite possibly my favourite aspect of the region, the music.
