Funny how back when I played the game, this theme went from being relaxing to giving me headaches. Some of the puzzles were really head scratching, but it was basically an entertaining way to play the Brain Age games. I actually haven't played any of the sequels, not for any specific reason other than having limited free time and too many games to play. Still, I consider having 100%'d this game an achievement!

This game was really memorable for me. So much in fact, that when I replayed it last year, I remembered most of the solutions from my first time playing XD. If you ever have any time, the other games are worth checking out. Great puzzles and more great music.

This is a series that's definitely kept it's quality steady over the years. I can't name a bad game actually (although I haven't played the Katrell game yet.) Layton vs Phoenix weight it's an easy recommendation as well!

Darky, you gotta give the other games a shot, they're all *amazing!* If you (still?) own a WiiU you can get the DS ones in the eshop, if I recall correctly. If not, well... there are always emulators for that! =P The 3DS games are definitely available in the 3DS eshop. ^^

A great series of games. Its rumoured that they're coming to switch which would be incredible :). I'm actually playing miracle mask (the 5th released game in the Uk). All great ha.

For a series so heavily connected with Nintendo, the absolute lack of any Professor Layton Spirits in Ultimate is really surprising. You don't think that...?

Oh man, the memories... and the headaches. Younger me wasn’t the best at Layton puzzles. This song was always great though.

A nice, relaxing tune. If you ever get to go back to the Layton series, I recommend Unwound Future.

I've listened to this song so much that despite not listening in such a long time it's ingrained in my mind that I just hummed along instinctively.

I recommend you definitely play any of the Layton sequels. This is a fantastic game and all, but the sequels managed to expand so much on the formula this game set. Whether it's more engrossing stories, more minigames and collectables, and unique ways to solve puzzles (including some that can be solved with the 3DS' gyroscope feature). Or in your case, the soundtracks, which are a HUGE improvement from this game. At the very least, check out the soundtracks of Unwound Future, Last Specter or MIracle Mask and I guarantee you your heart will melt at some of the tunes.

That being said though, maybe skip Diabolical Box. It's... not very good. Soundtrack is very nice though.

The main theme to unwound future is one of my favourites of all time. Used to listen to it on loop through the game's music player haha

Kind of, but not completely... Basically, a few people are running backup servers for nintendo ds. Accessing them is rather simple in some cases (https://youtu.be/Sh0AZR-tKwM), and I believe they allow you to download DLC for multiple ds games (dragon quest, professor layton...). The biggest hurdle you will face will be finding a hotspot compatible with your ds, I think. Of course, the method I link doesn't need you to hack your ds/3ds, but just change a few settings and the dns.

Last time I played the game, I could still play them. All of them. Although I think I downloaded a batch of them beforehand; but I'm pretty sure I didn't download all of them and yet I still had them all.

I think they're all actually on the cartridge already, and connecting to Nintendo Wi-Fi just unlocked them. Not positive, though, but I do know you can just sideload a saved game with them unlocked, if you have the means to do that.
