Since my last upload early this year, it has been confirmed that the game will be rebranded to ensure it is released without any copyright problems, which makes complete sense. They probably first intended to have story elements directly related to the Mother series, so we'll have to forget about that. It also means that any music based on Mother themes will be removed, like this one. In the end, I'm glad they're doing this because I feel like we will be able to judge the game based on what it is instead of what it should have been as an unofficial sequel to such a beloved series.

I heard that they actually got the rights for the music. It was from a youtube comment on the soundtrack, but it's got 400 upvotes so it's gotta be legit Also this mix radiates with Pokemon Diamond/Pearl energy, the instruments and style sound so similar. I swear I've heard the piano part at 0:50 in a DP song somewhere.

I was actually listening to the music recently and wanted to see updates to it! I am really excited to see more of what they did. I joined their mailing list back in 2014, but I do hope it is releasing soon as I hear it is getting quite close to finished! Fantastic effort by the team though, they are obviously working hard to rebrand it.

Itoi himself said Mother was over, I'm happier with a game that takes inspiration from it than a fan sequel

Why would they need to remove the music? Just because it sounds similar? I don't feel like Nintendo could sue them for using music that *sounds* similar to Earthbound, but is otherwise entirely original. I really like this soundtrack, so I hope they don't ditch it.

I'm getting so fed up with waiting, but I really hope all that waiting will pay off with a truly great game. At least I have the soundtrack to hold me over. I'm really, really trying to not lose hope in this game. But I can feel myself slowly losing grasp,

If you need to scratch your Earthbound-style RPG itch while you wait for this to come out, I suggest getting Jimmy and the Pulsating Mass. I say it’s like Earthbound but it feels like a bunch of classic SNES RPGs put into a blender. It’s very fun and has a great soundtrack too.

It’s been out since I wanna say August. But I first heard about it in October when a couple of Twitch streamers I follow played it. I was sold on it within 15 minutes of watching. Think of the aesthetics, humor, and lurking darkness factor of Earthbound; the job system of FF5; and the glut of optional things to do (along with a way of traveling the world) of FF6 and Chrono Trigger, all in an RPG Maker game. Be warned though: unlike stuff like Undertale or OFF where the meaning is speculated by fans, the plot undertones in Jimmy are explained almost directly in the game, and you may not feel like playing after that. That’s all I can say.

This was a fan game under development, but Nintendo shut it down because of copyright, but they're continuing developed with a different name and removing mother content.

@King Mars Correction, Nintendo didn't shut it down, but they decided to drop the Mother label partly because they could avoid Nintendo possibly making a copyright claim, and partly because of how the game was evolving.
