As a fan of this game when I played it, I really need to get to the rest of the series. The unique/horror atmosphere mixed with great writing always made me want to keep going, advancing the story to understand what was going on. This is a very Shinji Hosoe track, who I still think is a vastly underrated composer.

Opinion time SupraDarky: 2 > 1 >> 3, as far as this trilogy goes. Anyway, it's one of my favorite, most memorable series!

This is one of the best video game series i ever played, the story and plot is so amazing and it connects all three games! Must play titles for me.
@Asdioh Ha, I completely agree with that order! Lots of people prefer the first game, but I liked Virtue's Last Reward much more.

999 was the best of the series in my opinion, VLR was ok, but pulled way too many plot points out of its ass to make the story work. I haven't played ZTD but I hear it's kinda bad.
@Dr. Velious The reason I prefer VLR is mostly the accessibility of the timeline and the jumps. In 999 it was pretty brutal to have to replay the beginning so many times, and really prevented you from experimenting properly - or at least from doing so enjoyably. I can say that personally I couldn't get any of the interesting endings without a walkthrough of some sort. The game doesn't give you enough feedback for whether or not you're on the right track. From a story perspective, I can see where you're coming from, and the 999 story did feel a lot more personal and straightforward than VLR. I hear they made a version of 999 for phones that has VLR's timeline system, but also removes the escape-the-room segments so I don't know if it's worth it :P
@NeatNit I take it that 999 didn't have one originally? in that case I'd completely agree, even in the collection VLRs flowchart was more nuanced than 999s.
@Dr. Velious It didn't! In the original DS game, you literally had to start the game from the first room every time. You could fast-forward dialog that you've already seen, but that still takes quite a long time and you still need to do all of the escape sequences.
@Dr. Velious It's still a great game, but the plot didn't deliver the hype VLR gave it. Still I enjoyed every minute of it, with awesome new characters and twists. But it's still 2>1>3 for me too.
I really need to complete the last ending on this after having done the others already some time ago.

So, now that 2 of the best tracks from the game are on the list, I'm eagerly expecting Chill and Rigor to pop up.
Kotaro uchikoshi is a great writer at doing intense mystery and pseudo-science like no other,he also is one of the few writers to do ending first then working their way to the beginning of the story.

Regarding the story, the first game was great, the second game was phenomenal... and the third game completely shit the bed. Great soundtrack across all three though! And fun puzzles!
It sucks because uchikoshi didn't write the third game and just only one scenario.
This reminds me of some Tekken 3/TTT tracks.

I played the second game, and while it is fun, it definitely needed a skip cutscenes option. I loved the plot and the puzzles, but it just had too much going from A to B scenes.
