A few very big weeks at work required my full focus, but I'm back and finally catched up with all the E3 conferences/news. Great showings overall, though I was definitely disappointed on Nintendo's front, even if I understand their commitment to focusing on the short term games. It also doesn't help that I have never been the biggest fan of the Smash series, so I'm sure those who are enjoyed it. I really wanted some news on the next Retro game and Metroid Prime 4, but it looks like we will have to wait. I'm glad to see Hollow Knight on Switch now and getting the visibility/success it so much deserves. It took long thoughts for me to choose this game over BOTW as my GOTY in 2017, but I still stand by it. I wonder now if more people played it and see where I was coming from!

Agreed, Smash pretty much carried that direct. Seems like Nintendo only wanted to focus on smash this year. We got little to no news on their games in development, Yoshi switch got delayed, and we got absolutely no game play of Prime 4. Me personally, I was bummed that there was nothing about Pikmin 4. I remember an interview with Miyamoto and the devs about a year after Pikmin 3 came out stating that not only was Pikmin 4 in development, it was almost finished. Fast forward today, still no news and nothing at E3 caught my interest.

It's likely that Pikmin 4 was in development for the Wii U and is now being put on the Switch instead, which would cause the radio silence, that being said I hope we see it next year atleast.

Just got 107% today and now I'm working on the hunters journal. I kept hearing about this game but can never really get into this type of game on pc. So glad I picked it up on the switch, I seriously haven't played anything else for a few weeks

I don't know why I haven't played Hollow Knight yet; I'll have to remedy that sometime. Though probably after buying Cuphead. Yeah, I wasn't impressed by Smash Ultimate either. I'm glad it's the Switch is getting the Smash 4 port like we expected and everything, and I also admire the extra little additions it added. But it's still just an enhanced port of a game we already played. And to have that take up the majority of Nintendo's conference is pretty disappointing.

Except for the shitty map system, it was great. I 100% this game but Zelda still takes it easy for me.

When you declared this your GOTY for 2017 I was immediately intrigued and got it immediately, and I'm so glad I did. I got a decent bit into the game but have yet to complete it as I fell off of it a few months back. I plan to finish it this summer though! Thanks so much for the awesome recommendation!!

Just finished Hollow Knight this week and loved it so much. Boss battles were unique and satisfying with some (NKG comes to mind) being quite a challenge. I can truly say I'm in love with the world and character's as well, can't wait for GnG exp and the Hornet campaign. Also Greenpath with this music was a magical place ;)

Hollow Knight was one of the best games I've ever played. Very unique, excellent fun exploring world with a cool story that you get to learn at your own pace. You can go through the game as is and play the extra tough challenges if you're up for the task. The music is also phenomenal and very atmospheric. Can't wait to play SilkSong if they release to PS4 later on.

Even though this song happens fairly early in the game, it is by far my favorite song out of the soundtrack. I can't really place why, though.

Honestly it just fits Greenpath really well, especially where it shows up in the game. It's very nice to listen to but also have a sense of mystery and adventure to it. Like you're out of the Crossroads, a pretty boring area with not a lot going on to a huge green area with tons to explore and this song is just THAT.

After finally getting to play this game on the Switch, I can say this would have rounded out my own personal top 5 for 2017 (alongside Persona 5, Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey, and Yakuza 0). It's up there with my favorite Metroidvanias, and might have dethroned Shovel Knight as my favorite indie. A masterpiece, indeed.

Started playing this on Saturday, really enjoying it, even though I absolutely suck at Metroidvania games. I was lost on Greenpath for a while, and that's an early area.

Got switch last week and i can't wait to try this out! Also very exited that limbo and inside were released on switch never had a chance to try them out

I can't really say I'd choose Hollow Knight over BOTW to bring to a deserted island. I really like HK and have put 30 hours into it now, but BOTW is that kind of game where frustration is not really an issue, and it's massive in another way compared to HK. Both are pure quality in their respective genre and style, but BOTW is the superior game overall in my book. I seriously can't believe though how HK can cost as little as 13 euro and still be what it is. This is surely one of the absolute best indie titles I laid my eyes on.
