Medal Melodies in a huge Mario fan and I enjoyed Hollow Knight more.

Ive been meaning to get to this game, ive been really getting into metroidvanias lately and i will definitely be checking this out soon.
So glad you didn't put Persona 5 in your list, its a good soundtrack but not amazing. And after playing the game for 120 hours it becomes flat out annoying.
I think that's more to do with him not playing Persona 5 then anything else. Whilst yes it can get repetitive it's a very outstanding soundtrack, I suggest looking up some analysis videos on the themes of the music and such, it's good stuff.

I'm curious of this game, and this entry really makes me want to try it. Truthfully, this list and several soundtracks have made me try games that I know I otherwise would've overlooked(Xenosaga, SHadow Hearts, Wild Arms, Undertale to name a few)

Hatt Hanz Hollow Knight is prob the deepest and greatest Metroidvania game of all time and they still aren't done releasing content for it. How did u come to the conclusion that it's a shallow game?
its a good game, but i dont think its great. It has a wonderful presentation and a very satisfying combat system, but it really doesnt do anything new with the Metroidvania formula. For alot of people a good Metroidvania is accomplished by being a copy and paste of other Metroidvanias they already like, just as long as they add more shit to it: more secrets, more bosses, more areas, more everything. Yet the fomula doesnt change its the same shit over and over again. Scratch that ocd itch, fill up the whole map, get the next powerup that makes you pretty much untouchable to other enemies... I have played that so many times. I finished it and it left me the next day. Now something like Rain World, thats whats reinventing the Metroidvania formula in new and interesting ways. I still think bout that game.
+Hatt Hanz, Nevermind that other guy's opinion, he was probably a kid in mind or just someone who can't properly text what he feels. I respect your opinion, because you at least gave one here. I mean, to each his own, i think you're right about it not innovating much, but that doesn't lessen the fact that this game does what it does, very well. For those who haven't played too many metroidvanias, it migh feel a lot better than those who have. I still think the ost is among the best, just by execution alone.

Rain World
When I started playing this game in early 2017, never would I have thought with the plethora of amazing games incoming that this would end up being my favorite of the year. This is a special game and I'm not sure I can put into words how amazing I find it. In terms of visuals, you really have to play it to appreciate the art style and the astounding amount of details each room provides. The music is my favorite of the year. Both the visuals and music help craft a unique and memorable atmosphere for each area. The gameplay starts slow, but gets better and better as you gain more powers and freedom of control. The enemies variety is astounding and the boss battles are challenging, fun and satisfying. The map is huge and the feeling I would get when discovring new, complete areas behind seemingly small access points would often blow my mind, something only Dark Souls provided me before. It really feels like the developers created a deep, heavy lore with this insect world and this is what made me lose myself in it. From the lone surface village of Dirtmouth to the beautiful Greenpath, to the disturbingly dark Deepnest, to the otherwordly Kingdom Edge... truly, Hollow Knight is a game dense with amazing content (I clocked at 26 hours before DLC). Metroidvanias are one of my favorite genres, and Dark Souls is one of my favorite games. Hollow Knight is a mix of both. I started enjoying the game and by the time I finished it, I knew it would be in my Top 3 of the year. What I didn't expect however, after reflecting on it, is to have Hollow Knight as one of my favorite games of all time. A masterpiece.
This wraps up my Top 10 of 2017! What an amazing year for gaming. Funny how last year I had trouble making a Top 10, but this year I had trouble playing all the games that could have made my Top. The biggest contenders which I have yet to play being: Mario Odyssey, Persona 5, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Horizon, Divinity II, Nioh, Resident Evil VII and Yakuza 0.
SupraDarky the New Game Plus update drops tomorrow for Xenoblade 2 if you have any interest. It comes with a buttload of QoL fixes that would make it an ideal jumping in point for the game now.
Can't wait for you to get around to Divinity 2, the soundtrack for that game is amazing and some of the fight music changes depending on the instrument you apply to your character. So say you have the Cello assigned then when the fight picks up in pace or that character does something awesome then it'll switch to that version of the track. It's really neat.
I'm a long time follower of your channel, mostly just watching in silence and lurking around. I had this game sitting on my steam library for some time, and decided to finally give it a try. After some time playing, I came to search if you had posted any track here and I missed, but found out that there was none. I knew that this was a game you would love, with an amazing soundtrack and many elements from your favorite games. So I tried to contact you on facebook, but turns out that you didn't receive / read my message. When you posted Zelda on GotY #2 yesterday, I thought to myself: "could it be?"; but then dismissed as a silly thought. Despite that, here it is on first place! What a surprise! I knew you'd like this game, I absolutely loved it (and I'm craving more content). Team Cherry deserves more love, and I expect they'll keep on the quality on future releases. Anyway, thanks for all these years of Best VGM, it has been such an enjoyable and nostalgic ride! (and please forgive my poor english)
Also my personal goty. Absolutely loved it, best metroidvania in years. Hope it'll come out fast for the Switch players, they've been waiting for a long time now.
