Not to disrespect the couple good Sonic games that came out, but it took Sega way too long to figure that all the fans wanted was something like the Genesis classics, which this is. Big thumbs up to Sega for basically allowing fans to create this game and make it official, it's receiving high praise.
Given Sonic 4's existence, Sega certainly knew that fans wanted a Genesis style game. They just had no idea what made those games good to begin with.
Considering that this is probably the highest praise that Sonic has gotten in a long time (or at least compared to how Sonic has been as of late), this was the game that was needed to get Sonic fans to remember why they loved this series in the first place. I'm actually interested to see if they decide to make a "Mania 2" or if they will focus on another game that needs a second wind.
For over two decades, many accepted that the magic of the Sega Genesis games was simply impossible to match. It seemed clear that all of them combined were lightning that would never strike twice. Sonic Mania is that second strike.
For me, "Sonic Generations" was the Sonic Game i've ever wanted. Awesome polished 3D-Stages and nice 2D-Gameplay. It is just lovely. Sonic Mania trys to hard to be one of "the old Sonic Games" imo. Sure, there's a lot of creativity in the bosses and stages but i don't want to buy a Game that feels like 20 Years old today.

I love the royal feel the harpsichord adds to this theme.
Wasn't a huge fan of this stage, but the music did help make it feel like massive. With a touch of royalty. I guess the name of the stage says it all.

So I had youtube set to 1.25x speed for the video I was watching before this, and then I started this one on 1.25x speed. Weirdly enough I think I prefer this song sped up a bit, something about it just kind of feels better.

This game is like what the Sega Saturn should've got back in the day, it seriously could've saved that console's lifespan and sales back then. :( But still, this game is so awesome, so awesome in fact, that I honestly prefer this over Sonic CD, which I find that game so frustrating because it's so difficult to avoid enemies or their attacks sometimes due to you going so damn fast which makes it hard to react at times, and I also find trying to go to the past, future, or the present really annoying because you have to go really fast without stopping or else it won't work and you lose the ability to go time travel, which is BS, it's also BS when you hit a wall, an obstacle, an enemy, or their attacks. D:< I also don't like the way you have to wait until the screen moves Sonic to either one side in order to spin dash, otherwise, it won't work. That doesn't mean I hate Sonic CD, I just wished that Sonic Team fixed these issues so I would enjoyed the game even more. However, it is one of the better Sega CD/Mega CD games out there, that's for sure.

Man can't wait for my Collectors edition to come in the mail tomorrow, for a date of reference, it is Aug 17 the tomorrow would be the 18th of 2017. Know little to nothing about the game since I've been avoiding spoilers from twitter and such so this is gonna be a fun playthrough!

I'm looking forward to playing this, and I'm glad it's getting high praise, but I personally believe Sonic doesn't have to go right back to its roots, pixels and all, just to make a good game. I hope this is a once in a while thing.

Anyone else notice the dial up sounds being used? I really like their use
if you think the Act 1 version is great, you'll get chills from how the Act 2 version sets the mood.
I was honestly disappointed we didnt get a Death Egg fight in Lava Reef Act 2, but then this theme with that looming background made up for it. Wow!

This game looks fun, definitely gonna try it out soon. The music is great as always, that's the one good thing Sonic games have been consistent with at least.
