I really need to go back and finish this game some day. This was my first Tales of game. I've lived seperate from my siblings since infancy, but I would often go visit them and vice versa--One summer though, one of my older brothers swings by with Clocktower 3 on PS2, and starts trying to scare me with it, I of course being a young lad, put on a brave face and tried to act like I'm okay with scary games. He boots up the PS2 and I'm greeted with. . . A cool anime opening. The damn jerk jebaited me with the Clocktower 3 case, but had Tales of Legendia in it. He ended up lending it to me for a while, and i spent a lot of time playing it. I vividly remember this song, though I don't remember where it plays exactly, I know its definitely in the early game. I think while you're on your way to a town in the beginning? Anyway, I had this song on my PSP since way back when. The language may be made up, but I'll be damned if this isn't catchy as hell. I have some pretty fond(?) memories of waking up early and playing 30 minutes ~ 1 hour of this before having to go to school, lol.

I agree. Well, I love what he did for TOD, TOD2 or TOA . . . but not the WHOLE soundtrack of these games striked me(except for TOD) like TOL did. And now, oh god, it's even worse with the latest games. Motoi is way better with Square anyway.(Valkyrie profil, Star Ocean 3)
Yeah, people always talk about how good his work is on other games but not the Tales series. It's crazy. They should just hire a new person, maybe full on replace him with Shiina or Shinji Tamura. And yeah, I love Tales of Destiny's soundtrack :D It was my first Tales.

The Tales of Destiny title screen continues to be one of my favorite songs in any RPG I've ever played. But yeah, I can't say I love every Sakuraba Tales soundtrack.
Glad this game got the best song it had out of the way quickly, so even if we stopped playing halfway, this would still be stuck in our head.

Legendia has the best music of all the tales games, no contest. The story is definitely in the top 5. The story, music, and characters are so memorable!
It's funny. I was severely disappointed with this game after playing Tales of Destiny 2 on Playstation 1 and Tales of Symphonia on Gamecube, though I did love this song. One of the games saving graces lol.

What an underrated game in the Tales series, that's for sure. Granted, much of the game was a bit mediocre compared to most Tales titles. What isn't mediocre, is the music, which is, in my opinion, the best music in the entire series.
Dude Symphonia and Abyss's soundtracks are practically identical, except for a couple songs, it is obvious(especially overworld themes). Legendia does have some remixes, but the songs that are remixed are not the only good songs either.
You paused a lot to listen to the music, didn't you? I spent 6 or 7 hours grinding in the first area just because I wanted to keep listening to this song.

@pandafuhrer Go Shiina did Legendia's soundtrack, not Sakuraba. I agree with you though. He could do so much more if he didn't stick to MIDI all the time, just look at Kid Icarus Uprising's OST
@JJMMFFF I dunno... I really felt the story was presented very well. It gave you a sense of awkwardness within each scene that gave it much more realistic feel. And each character went through their own transformation. I also found myself responding to them and expecting a reply. I really felt like I was part of the story. Normally I need a custom character for that... It may not have been the best writing but it was definitely the best delivery I've ever seen.
@Joernboy That's ironic. Many people see Sakuraba's works as exactly what you are complaining about.

@TheCrampz ToL suffers from gameplay wise though. The game may have been way better with updated battle system or a faster and smoother 2D battle such as Destiny Remake.
Tales of legendia is by far the best Tales game i've played it's long as hell to its even guaranteed over 70 hours of gameplay, plus the guide book is thick as hell.
@Joernboy Sakuraba's music is getting stale and repetitive. It all sounds the same nowadays and could be easily imitated. Though I don't want to bash Sakuraba, he's been in the VGM industry a long time and is in his own right an excellent composer, Go Shiina doesn't get enough chances to get his works out there, and Legendia is probably my favorite of all Tales games' soundtracks. It's actually the one shining factor in a otherwise lackluster game.
@PhiyreBahl Many of the games' tracks are repetitive and felt bland and uninspired to me. Some got me pretty annoyed in the later parts of the game, when I heard them for the ~15th time. I will admit though that the whole feeling of the soundtrack was pulled down by the utter badness of the game itself. I'd prefer Sakuraba any day nevertheless.

@BossBasher Agreed, I thought that the tales series have some of the best english dubs in all JRPGs. Especially Tales of Vesperia. The voices suited every character and I thought it was actually better than the japanese version...Karol's voice in japanese -_-U

@Exarian The language is called 'Relares' and it is a made up language unique to Tales of Legendia. I have no idea what they are saying, but the tone and rhythm are meant to be soothing and relaxing, which leads me to believe the lyrics must be similer. In any case, the song is awesome, even standing alone from the game.

I found the voice acting surprsingly fitting to the characters. o.o Extremely bad voice actors for extremely forgettable, annoying characters. That said, this is one of the very, VERY few good songs from Legendia. Everything about this game makes me feel guilty and dirty for having played it. :'(
@conurebleu Actually, the English VA in Tales games (before Namco decided to scrw us all) was getting better and better: Yuri Lowentall (Luke and Asch) Johny Yong Bosch (Guy) Melissa Fahn (Anise) Kirk Thornton (Jade) Troy Baker (Yuri) Michelle Ruff (Rita) Sam Riegel (Flyinn) Those are, if not better, at least very on par with the Japanese VA.
To everyone with modded PS2 and PSP: Grab the undubbed version of Tales of Legendia, Tales of the Abyss and Tales of Eternia on the internet, and rejoice. MUCH BETTER (nothing wrong with the western VA - the ToA ones are very good, with Vic Mignogna and all. It's all Namco's fault, with shitty microphones, cheap-ass policy of cutting dubbed parts of the game, and NOT FUCKING RELEASING THE BEST TALES IN WEST!)

As always, Namco fucks up with the Western release, specially regarding of voice actiong (either is atrociously bad, like on Tales of Eternia and its cheap microphones, or they don't even bother to voice the entire game, like Legendia and Abyss). Tales of Vesperia was the first one to make things right, but wait - its not the full version of the game! And the full version is NO-EXPORT-FOR-YOU! But, hey, we are getting Muscle March. So I think that its all well.

I think it wasn't so much how he was saying... it's what he was saying... there isn't really you can pull off a STELLLAAAAA and come off serious. There are times when voice actors are blamed, when they are doing the best they can do with bad dialogue, and vice versa!
The English voice acting would have been pretty good... if the second half of the game was actually voiced >__>

Aww the fighting was style is one of my favourites. Yeah the story is a bit iffy. But cheezy dialogue for the win! The dialogue is hilariously cheese. They scream "Of course not!!" and it sounds so sarcastic but they really mean it. xD
I played the demo for that, and I gathered it would most likely be rather childish in some regards. It looked pretty, it sounded fantastic, but I felt it was targeting a much younger audience and the fighting style was completely not appealing to me. I'm sure it probably has many great aspects about it and may actually be worthwhile to play, but I'm just not interested in what I saw of it.. For me, a game has to either have a compelling story, or great gameplay (preferably both) for me to enjoy.
Without giving any spoilers, yes, the story has a much larger scope than it appears to at first, though a larger picture is hinted at early on, it doesn't become totally apparent until deeper into the game, which is usually the case with Tales games. In that respect, ToL was different from the rest of the franchise as it has a bit of a smaller focus and less complex of a plotline. The game was still great, but it just didn't have a story at the same level as many of the other Tales games.
If you liked corny, play Eternal Sonata!! I love that game!
I mentioned in another comment that I wasn't a fan of the character designs (being Chibi), but I meant the art style was sweet for the level designs and areas. But in most RPGs the characters look like freaks anyways (if it is a SE game, all look like 13 year old boys with spiky hair...creeeeepy). Some RPGs do have solid dialogue, that can maintain a serious mood and avoid being corny. such as Vagrant Story or Valkyrie Profile.
Yeah, the visuals were good but it wasn't my type because I've been playing a lot of other rpgs with uhmm.. you know, normal sized characters running around xD. But yeah, all rpgs have corny dialogue. What's good is those memorable corny dialogues from good rpgs. I don't think this one had it.
I think the real fun of this game was the art. It had beautiful visuals and a mesmerizing musical score. I also liked how it went back to the old 2d sidescroller for the fights. But you bring up a good point about the dialogue being forgettable, though I felt its most memorable attribute (the dialogue that is) was how corny it was.
I found Shelly's voice to be a pain. That was the only good part about having no voice acting in the second half. I think all the other voices were average. It fit their character, but doesn't give it any memorable flare or WOW. I don't remember any quote or conversation right off the bat from this game.
With that kind of attitude, you probably won't like it. If you have to force yourself to play it with your preconceived notions of the game sucking and not holding a candle to ToL, you aren't really giving it a fair shot. If you don't like the game, that's fine, but that doesn't make it a bad game simply because it is not the same game as another in its "Tales" franchise.
ToA's cast have varied personalities and some interesting back stories, that are actually frequently relevant to the storyline. ToA also has a larger cast of characters and simply has more going on in a more involved plot. ToA has some great music in it, I particularly like the main theme song, but as I said earlier, I'm with you in saying that ToL's soundtrack is tough to beat by just about any game out there.
There is a difference between bad acting (or VAing) and just having an unlikable character. Portraying a spoiled and sheltered rich kid's voice as often being whiny, fits the character. You can certainly say you dislike it, which I'd even agree with you on, but it isn't bad acting. You haven't even seen most of the story or Luke's evolution as a character, and what you have played, you pretty clearly don't even understand. I'd suggest giving the game a chance, you are missing out on a great one
I like TOL vibrant and clear graphics though the chibi character models do look weird, which is why the game mainly goes into the character portrait type mode when special events are happening. As for TOA graphics I'm not a fan. It's easy to see the pixels and I actually like TOL's artes better so far but I'm sure that'll change seeing as though I saw a video of Jade using indignation. (big step up from TOL) The battle theme so far is the biggest issue so far actually... Makes battles tedious.
It's going to take a lot in order for me to become neutral again to the TOA cast because so far the only characters I like are Jade and that one little kid chick whose name I can't remember... I love TOL's cast! Each one has their own unique personality. (except for Norma and Moses who are both fun though) TOL beats the crap out of TOA soundtrack-wise especially when comparing battle themes.
While I do agree his voice acting fits his personality I still don't like it... You can have fitting voice acting without making me skip every line the character says because it makes my ears bleed out... Idk, I've never liked whiny male voice actors... I've had TOA for about a year now yet I can't get myself to et any farther into it... (I'm shortly passed getting Guy) For story I can't compare the two because I'm not getting anything from TOA's story so far, just something about phonons...
In my opinion, ToA has ToL beat on story and characters. ToA has a larger and more varied cast of personalities, whereas ToL has a smaller but closer knit one, which I can see people getting relatively more attached to because of the difference in scale and exposure to them. As far as soundtrack goes, ToL takes the cake, it blows just about any game I can think of's musical score out of the water with very few exceptions. Graphics, I personally like this game's except for the chibi characters.
Luke WAS a whiny character though, if the voice actor portrays him with a whiny voice, it is very suiting to the character. Was Luke's voice often times annoying? Yes, but it doesn't make it bad voice acting since that's how Luke is written. No question, this game rocks, but it does have some weaknesses, just like many of the best games out there still do. I don't really get why ToA is so vastly much more popular than ToL, but I do think ToA has better written characters and a more epic story.

I found the character extremely memorable... o.o Way better than any other Tales game actually and I hate seeing people say it sucks. It had amazing characters, great story, amazing soundtrack, flawed but fun battle system, and way better voice acting then the whiny Luke in TOA which I can't get into... Amazing game that amazed my young 11year old mind when I played it my first time and still amazes me today. ^^

idk, from the sounds of it, the big names (Scott McNeil, Vic Mignogna, etc) Seem to make a good bit of money. Especially if Scott has the cash to just "Show up" at random cons and stuff, or so i hear, without anyone asking him to. unless his wife or w/e is rich.

Yea i didn't care for the character design much either, but its easy to ignore when the stories great, plus their voices for the most part suited them well, the only thing I find sorta weird is legendia and abyss came out the same year, abyss came out just a few months later and it was really nice animation.....I guess maybe they could have been focusing on that and not legendia? ok sorry now I'm just talking to myself' ty for upload!!!!!

I found this game to be the averagely above average rpg game. It's obviously not bad but not one you would easily remember after a month after finishing or so. The characters are normal rpg characters and it was disappointing that the 2nd half wasn't voice acted. Anyways, this piece is nice.
Probably my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE song from Legendia. Brings back so many memories from Lumen Spring and everything... 5/5

Not really. The game has most colorful and lively graphics and environments too. The only that actually needs improvement is the battle system.
It's gameplay was good, the story was the downfall of it, to me anyways. The gameplay was reminiscent of the earlier Tales games. I actually prefer its 2d sidescroller combat over the 3d that they've adopted with titles like Abyss and Symphonia. The combat system in this Legendia is very much like Destiny and Eternia (Destiny II in the states), the first two respectively, that got me into the series in the first place. However, the gameplay wasn't the only thing that kept me a fan of the Tales

I agree. In my opinion, Legendia had some of the most fun levels and definitely the best overall musical score of the Tales games I've played thus far. I enjoyed the music, level designs and graphics, and gameplay, however the storyline, characters, and pretty much the entire game after the main story, were rather weak compared to the other Tales games.
It isn't any language. At least, it's not any earthly language. I think it's some kinda in-game language exclusive to that water race. I forget what it's called. =P

I think this game had a better sound track than most, the levels were very easy on the eyes and just fun to run around in. The fights were nice going back to the side scrolling 2d system with jumping. The story, for the most part, was nothing to write home about, but overall, this tales game was very much about gameplay, more so than story. I do agree that it was cool having Senil use fist weapons rather than the usual swords. It was a fun, unique, and worthy addition to the Tales series.
Well that's an acceptable theory. I don't know if I buy it. Uusually the producer tries to have enough money across the board for it. Even if he has to hire cheaper voice actors. voice actors themselves aren't paid that much(a lot do commercials to compensate), and video games pay them a lot less than anime and most other jobs.

The game is in two halves. The first haplf, up to its final battle, is voiced. The second half is individual character stories that eventually lead to the true finale, but only the end-of-chapter anime scenes and skits are voiced.
That's exactly the reason -- the Japanese version was fully voiced.
I actually stopped playing for a few minutes just to listen to the music without being interrupted by battles and such. Most of the time Tales music isn't very interesting or memorable, but this one was an exception.
