The best fan remake I've played. I find the 2D Metroids to be some of the most replayabale games and I can't be happier that Metroid 2 got such a quality (and superior) remake to join Zero Mission, Super Metroid and Fusion. I honestly had no expectations when I downloaded this game, but I quickly realized that this wasn't just any fan remake. Everything seems to have gone through a Nintendo-like quality check, from the way Samus handles, the various gameplay elements, the secrets, bosses, the soundtrack. I was hesitating between this and my #1 for the top spot in 2016 but ended giving this #2 as it's a remake, but that should tell you how much I loved it. On a related note, I'm playing through Dark Souls 3 and I would probably put it right behind this game right now, it's unsurprisingly awesome.
Absolutely one of the best games to be made in the last year, and a great gift for Metroid's 25th anniversary. Even though it's just a fan remake that took years to complete, I can see the legacy left behind changing the future of the gaming industry.
It's sad to see what became of this game after following it for like... 6 years. Probably my third or fourth favorite Metroid game ever, thought, I can't believe how fun it's to play.
Definitely a bummer about what happened... I want to say I followed it for about 4 or 5, but I'm glad it was finished :). Super excited to see what Doc has in store for his next project!
Same here, was not expecting anything going in. It ended up being the most fun I've had in years. I couldn't stop playing it! I honestly felt like I was back in my childhood again, playing a whole new SNES Metroid game! It's amazing!
But since you have this song here it's oonly right if you add Sonic Before the Sequel and After the Sequels' entire soundtracks right? Right?
Finally the AM2R shut down makes proper sense. It will be exciting to see which remake i the best: the official or that by fans?
The people who made this game totally deserve to be hired by Nintendo.

I knew AM2R would be good but I had no idea it would rival Super Metroid. The mod community really is the best thing to happen to gaming.

Even the original Metroid II had a great soundtrack. :-)

I played this game after hearing about it from your first upload. It was super fun! Really great remake, could easily pass as a legitimate Nintendo-made game. The first song you uploaded (Hydro Station) was the best song in the game, but this was one of the better ones too.
Of course, this is some kind of remix of a track from Metroid 2. I think it was the main exploration music.
That last boss, tho. What a shit load of fuck. This area in particular was pretty cozy and chill.

I found it quite interesting. Especially if you compare with the Game Boy version.
