This is a top game of 2016? This was bad enough that it made an LPer of terrible games to swear doing any more LPs. Granted, he played worse games (FF7 Crisis Core, that Parasite Eve game for PSP that makes Other M look socially progressive), but this was the last straw. Good tracker though!
I found I am setsuna to be so mediocre in almost every front its not even funny. It had no big negatives, yet it also did not have big positives either. I dont regret buying it, but i also cannot really recommend anyone else buy it. Biggest disservice to this game was probably the fact that i played bravely second about month or two before this, as that game was what i would consider an amazing classic JRPG. Maybe that set the bar too high for the game, or maybe not, who knows?
Well at least the OST is great. My favorites would be Path of Redemption and Endless Crusade.
To give the soundtrack a little credit, most of it isn't nearly as derivative as this particular piece is. The town themes in particular are very nice. Game was disappointing for sure. Felt just as low budget as it was.
You're absolutely right, the soundtrack is definitely one of the game's highlights.

And so begins the top 10 of 2016 games I played. I'll start by mentioning Final Fantasy XV and Last Guardian that I haven't played yet, but I'm sure they would have made the list. My #10 starts with a game that actually disappointed me. I had very high expectations when I heard it was largely inspired by Chrono Trigger, but the result unfortunately feels quite amateurish, even when considered as an Indie game. And this is the problem with I am Setsuna: instead of feeling like an RPG taking inspiration from classics like CT and Final Fantasy, it feels like it simply steals ideas and rides on them without adding any flavor. The theme you're listening to sounds like Chrono Cross, the battle system is CT-lite, you even have a scythe-wielding villain that follows the same kind of character evolution as Magus, but in a much less effective way. The graphics are very pleasant to the eyes, but I feel like the simplistic 3D models did a disservice to the rest of the great artwork. The battle system quickly becomes boring because of a general lack of challenge and required strategies. But the story is by far the worst part of the game and may actually be one of the weakest I've seen in an RPG. To me, they failed to tell a very simple story on most fronts and I often found myself rolling my eyes at the characters' logic and at the plot "twists" that I saw coming from miles away. After I finished playing the game, I never considered adding it to my Top 10 of the year, but after thinking back on it, its unique setting stuck with me and I can only respect the developer for doing that. That is, going with an RPG that only takes place in a snowy world featuring a soundtrack that (almost) only uses the piano. What felt repetitive actually ended up making the game much more memorable than if both these elements had went with a more traditional style, which would have made the game completely forgettable. I listed mostly negatives, but for a game to actually stick with me like this despite these, I feel like it deserves the #10 spot over an overall good game that I will forget about in a couple months.

It was first on PS4/Vita/PC so it doesn't really count. Wait until Zelda.
Yes, but, as far as I'm aware, this is the first entry the SupraDarky has added to the list where he put the Switch as one of the playable systems. Unless he retroactively added it to the entries from Mario Kart 8.
