Jake Kaufman is today's Kōji Kondō, honestly.
Eh, I wouldn't go that far. Koji Kondo is an absolute legend, the man singlehandedly created Nintendo's musical sound. He's created some of the most iconic tunes of all time, and is an irreplaceable piece of pop culture. Jake Kaufman, while still super talented and definitely on the rise as a composer, just can't compete as it currently stands. I'm sure he would be the first to say so, too. He could be someday, but not today.
He's at least Koji Kondo of indie games.

As much as Skyward Sword sucked the big one, the music was still great, especially Fi's theme. Honestly there are a lot of old Zelda songs that are just garbage, like Sheik's theme. I haven't heard any music from ALBW yet.
BotW's trailer theme is amazing but something tells me that definitely isn't Koji Kondo composing it this time round. Anyway Kaufman is bloody great and you can't really compare them because they have different styles/approaches to music.
the only piece Kondo composed for Skyward Sword was for the intro cinematic. That was his last composition for a Zelda game.

I don't Koji Kondo out of this, or eg Shovel Knight. This track is boppin, belongs on this greats list, but it doesn't have the ...oddity...of Kondo's compositions. This track is familiar stuff done A level. Kondo's work is a sea of "where the heck did this idea come from?"

This games sound track is grossly underrated. Could you do Rescue Me from Mighty Switch Force 2? It's the credits music.

At this point, an awesome track by Jake Kaufman isn't surprising anymore. He has to be one of my favorite young composers, his talent is undeniable. This game was fun, but its energetic soundtrack really elevated it.
Jake Kaufman! I had no idea it was him. No wonder I like the MSF soundtracks so much despite having no interest in the game. That kid's going places, I promise.
