I've only enjoyed a select few RPGs let alone J-RPGs, I am not one to enjoy them, they start to feel like chores after a while.
It's the other way around with me. I Like many J-RPGs(mostly older ones) but I have a really hard time getting into western RPGs.(Even though I play Tabletop RPGs all the time)

Another game I haven't played, but don't have an awful lot of interest in playing. It seems good, but not something I'd enjoy much. I tend to be picky with RPGs.
+Retrauk Sort of the same here. I'm a fan of RPG but also only thoroughly enjoyed a few selected ones. I tried the first game in the Xenosaga series and stopped playing after maybe thirty hours as it felt really tideous and quite frankly boring. Maybe I would enjoy it a lot more if I kept playing but when it feels like a chore to play through I rather not.
It's clearly not a game that you enjoy playing, and the first thirty hours are just the begining. It comes really more interessting in the end of the first game, then the story never stop being incredible, the universe of Xenosaga is incredibly complex and the hardest is to enter into this complexity I agree. But once you're inside it's really hard to separate from the characters since they're all so nicely written ! :)

It was gonna be 6 episodes originally but the poor sales from xenosaga 2 forced them to end it at 3. Considering how much they had to pack into 3 they did an amazing job.

i was thinking Yasunori Mitsuda did this entire series, but after doing alittle research it seems he only did episode 1 while Yuki Kajiura did some of 2 and all the episode 3.

For Xenosaga 3 the battle system was dumbed down to the level of typical Final Fantasy systems where you just have a menu of different levels of the same spell. The original authors were removed from the project and the story was finished by writers who had no idea what the subject matter was or what it meant.

zenosaga 3 was one of the best games of all time. I remember how attatched I was to the characters, 3 episodes and it grows on you.
Sorry, but NONE of these surpass Xenogears. It was one of the greatest jRPGS in history ever.

@LightFykki haha Xenoblade has nothing to do with Xeno except for the creator. They just put Xeno for the sales, but i still think that Xenoblade surpasses the rest.

I remember i was in an ES and standing still inside a mountain to listen to this song after noticing how good it is. Silent, lonely, sad. Best song of this game imo. Xenosaga is my favorite game.

I don't understand why everyone thinks this is one of the best songs in the game. It's alright, but there are so many outstanding songs in this trilogy.
I wish i went back into time and played the series again for the first time. I remember how excited I was while playing it and wondering what was going to happen next and how I was to strategize on making it to the next area. Most EPIC game ever played on ANY console. PERIOD. -X-

@gmrpg2 If Episode II was a standalone release (like, if it wasn't tied to Xenosaga), it would have been a mediocre RPG. However, since it's looked down upon more for being a part of the series because 1 and 3 are so good. Common problems include the battle system making battles long, bad voice acting, the graphics, and the smaller plot. It's still worth going through once to get the story, though.
Mitsuda is great, but IMO Yuki Kajiura's soundtrack for 2 and 3 are 10x better. But Mitsuda rocked the Chrono Cross OST no doubt.
If Episode II had been anywhere near as good as Episode III was, then there wouldn't have been a problem...
The original plan was to make 6 of them, but due to the fail of Xenosaga II they ended the series in the third one.

Xenosaga is great, one of the best games ever made if you ask me, but in my opinion xenogears is better, you should try it.

Xenogears was episode 5 of a seperate six-part series that the director had in min. Xenosaga while similar is very different.
I liked all the characters in xenosaga. in Xenogears i only really liked Fei,Citan and Elly the others didnt really have that much of a backstory :(

Same. I was pretty disappointed with Xenosaga. It wasn't a horrible game, but almost everything about it felt worse, with the exception of the graphics. Even Yasunori Mitsuda wasn't up to his usual standards.
Agreed. I have yet ot see a story that rivals Xenogears'. That game was way ahead of its time. Forget Bioshock, games were telling great stories several years before. If only it had a modern graphics engine...
yes i liked xenogears a little better because i'm kind of an oldschool gamer (at heart) and the story was just so incredible...but besides that xenosaga comes at a close 2nd atleast imo. :)
I still haven't finished the second. What annoys me the most is the change of voice actors for Momo and...Kos-Mos I think. I also preferred the style of the first. Still quite addicting though.

Yes, Saga2 was the weakest of the series. I'm working my way through it so that I can fully enjoy 3. It's not awful by any means, but I feel it was just bad enough to drive away fans. I think Saga2 is was killed the chance for them to complete the series the was they wanted to.
It's supposed to be distantly linked I believe. The Xenosaga series takes place before xenogears does. Sort of an alternate universe take on the same story. For example, remember the very beginning of gears when the ship crashes into the planet. I believe it was being attacked by the Gnosis(saga). The games aren't absolutely related, but I know Xenogears was number 4 in what was supposed to be a series. Then saga had episodes 1-3. It's the best we'll ever get to a series supporting Xenogears.

There's plenty of hope, but no one wants to finance it, it seems--everyone wants the next Pokemon, but no one wants to pay for it, let alone the next Xenogears or Xenosaga! Please see my videos for a great space opera game that should have been popular too. I will never understand why casual gamers have the control over the industry they do. Why is it that quality doesn't matter anymore in the game industry?! Xenosaga deserved to be up there with Final Fantasy and last for more than 10 years! If you want to see another unfairly ignored but masterfully made space opera game, go and check my vids for a game called Nexus: The Jupiter Incident, then go buy it on Steam :).
I miss it too - and I personally thought they screwed up the story part in Episode 3 big time... All those years I had been waiting for an explanation of everything that had been going on in Ep 1 + 2...hoping for one flashback after another, just like in Xenogears. but then they go and change who's in charge of the scenarios and all we get in ep 3 is way too much mainstream focus on the whole love affairs... whereas the real answers to the story were mainly just scrambled into the database :/

I don't understand why. Xenosaga I sold rather well, so why did they find it necessary to screw over the development team by changing it up for Ep. 2? And why did it take them 3 games to get a look as sleek and polished for Ep. 3, which, if implemented earlier, would have helped the series sell more? I miss Xenosaga.
I'm glad you picked this one from Xenosaga. You rarely find this on youtube, and although godsibb and hepatica are good, this one just has a low and solid tone that is very emotional. I love this song.
Kinda makes you feel weird knowing the series is over.
