I have recently started this game, and though I belive it has lost its 'creepy mystic', this BGM instantly got stuck in my head
Epic battle theme especially the seraphic sequence at 50 seconds just amazing
It's good but Shadow Hearts is supposed to have that creepy,mysterious battle theme that repeatedly sends chills down your spine. It's supposed to be a dark game. Now I'm not emo or whatever,but I do love the storyline of Shadow Hearts one and two. The bgm made you actually feel like you're in a horror movie/crime scene drama. Then it came together all marvelously linking both the first and second game. The good ending of part 2 explains how Alice is alive at the end of the first one good ending. Yuri manages to kill Atman and beat the living or dead shit out of those masks. Now given Yuri's personality,he is more arrogant and laid back in the first game. Even more that pacing to the good ending was loose and left loopholes. Seeing how Yuri's personality flipped when discovering that Alice was about to be killed. He beat down the masks and broke through that door. So in short,part 1 and part 2 was great,it ended in a tragedy in both games really,but towards the end of part 2,Yuri was given another chance to make things right. He was sent back to the beginning of Shadow Hearts one where he knew what he had to do it appeared.
That's the thing I like about shadow hearts. (:) )
@Zadox reo Yep, Shadow Hearts was an amazing game. I still remember part one had a boss that looked like the Grudge lol
+Edge Valmond I remember playing Shadow Hearts 1, when I was stuck in that cave running around in circles, not knowing how to get out or what to do, the monsters in that place killed me tho lol, hated that place still till this day!
@Zadox reo lol I always make sure I had my team strong since I had no sense in direction, so my next best bet was grinding. I remember for one mask in a replay of the story, I forgot some things, and the Judgment ring I think it was called was invisible. Lucky thing I memorized the Judgment ring and all characters attack point. I even hit perfect a few times. Though I have to say one of the most thrilling battles was the Seraphic Radiance battle. You're only allowed to use Yuri in a two part battle. First against his father and then his fathers fusion form of the Seraphic Radiance. That whole battle I was on the edge, I did not want to start over lol.
+Edge Valmond luckly I have beaten Shadow Hearts 1, but I have not complete the game in 100%, have not collected or cleared everything, I think I cleared the game at 78 or 81% something like that, Shadow Hearts will go down in history as the best dark jrpg games ever.
@Zadox reo So true, I recommend using a guide. It makes it a lot easier to follow through. If I remember right, if you pass a certain point without collecting a certain item for the final stage of a fusion, then you cannot initiate the final fusion. You need all fusions in order to fight Seraphic Radiance, which makes sense, you can't go fighting a god when you haven't even conquered the prerequisites. Shadow Hearts will always be on of my favorite games

You know whats weird. When I was in the 5th grade I actually drew a person with tannish skin color with his arms crossed facing sideways. He had a headband but it was red, the pants were the same color though. I just think it's weird how I drew sumthing nearly identical and I didn't know about the game till 7 years later.
Wow really? Haha, Well I probably got my ideal drawing from a movie. Unless they have some sort of super secret spy service going on in the US I doubt they had gotten the idea from my drawing lol. Just a really odd coincidence.

Hilda was really powerful, i equipped her with alot of spell dmg or watever they call it in the game (long time since i played it) and she easily deals hellish amount of dmg especially to monsters weak to nature element ( pa pa pa pumpkin) :P kept her thin :P
Must admit gameplay wise i liked this game a lot better than the other entrys; Character wise i much prefered 1 and 2 . But this song is KICK ASS !! :D

Mao was stupid, Frank was a tank, Hilda was difficult to play as, Shania was overpowered in the second plathrough, Johnny went berserk too much cause he has the lowest sanity points, Natan's side quest was hard and Ricardo was also difficult to play as. This is my favorite RPG and I wish it was more famous.
You kiddin me? Ricardo was hard to play as? He had some of the most awesome moves of any character. Once I got him and I saw some of his awesome songs, I was like "wooo ya, I think I found my 2nd permanent character that's always gonna be in my group right next to Shania!" But yes, I do remember dumping a ton of pure leaves into Johnny. Just like Alice from SH1, in fact.

Frank, Shania, and Natan looked so generic. Frank and Mao was just so STUPID. And they had like only 3 or less abilities. Even after this stupidity, it still managed to be a good and hard game. How dey, how dey do dat!?

LOL i actually found Tales of the abyss at my local Wal Mart. I had to search 12 game stop's to find From The New World.
midway games craped out, and the creators behind Shadow Hearts parted ways. Its a damn shame to. though I can't help but think that is they actually gave the games some actual publicity that they would have made more then enough sales that they would've continued.

@zeonmystic That bothered me too about Covenant, but the thing that was an absolute killer for me was a little, mostly irrelevant aspect of the story, that being *SPOILER* the fact that it follows the bad ending of Shadow Hearts, the one where Alice dies. Alice was easily my favorite character in Shadow Hearts, and after learning that her dying was canon, I just couldn't bring myself to continue playing.

@zeonmystic well then considering that Covenant's gameplay and battle system are practically identical, i guess you would orgasm every second of it, because this game quite simply sucked in comparison >.<
@YinYang19 -cont- it stands to reason that other cultures, particularly those who practiced those forms of spiritual medium rituals, would have access to similar abilities. With Yuri and Kurando, it was more a sort of Shinto/Taoist-esque practice. Sorry again, just thought that might explain it in case you still wondered or if anyone else had a similar question and happened by here.
@YinYang19 I know this is hell of late, and I'm very sorry. But, during Covenant, Rasputin and Nicolai both state that Soul Fusion isn't only practiced by the Harmonixers, as they both made soul pacts with demons that allowed them to fuse. It was somewhat different, but if you consider that Shania comes from the Native American society- which practiced various forms of shamanic 'spirit animal' rituals where people would become on with their totem in a trance-like state- cont.
@YinYang19 i agree with u on the music. when i hear it, its like saying "let the ass kicking begin" lol. That and the music gets me in the perfect mood to draw some badass pictures as well. I only wish that the company that made the game came out with another shadow hearts for the ps3 with music thats just as badass.

@AlbelUnlimited You mean that Koudelka is the predeccessor to Shadow hearts, and it is more than just spiritual, a lot of characters and the mansion return in Shadow hearts.

Despite the not so great storyline for FTNW, the battle system is so incredible that it alone is worth playing this game through for.
There rare, but you can find it rather easily if you actually try. They have em at gamestop sheep ranging from $15-$19

Hiro: No, that started with the original. There's always been a slightly silly humour to the series. FTNW took it way too far and removed almost all the serious elements that made the original two great.

you want to hear really different, listen to the music from the 1st and 2nd Shadow Hearts. The series gets more light-hearted as the games go on, which is why many people prefer the first Shadow Hearts.

Shadow Hearts 3 opened up so promising. So much stuff started to go downhill by the time you got to South America. Oh well its a pretty great game, just a few steps back from SHC in a few areas.
I love this theme. My only complaint is that they switch it halfway through for one that's more "tribal" instead of "eerie".

yeah that part was quite annoying, when u had to switch the eye colors to open respective doors.
Oh, I remember this. I got up to Macchu Pichu where you have to do something with colour orbs (when I rented it).
This battle theme is one of the best. Even the random encounters would get on my nerves sometimes, the music never got old. It's way better than the South America battle theme.
Each game in the series (except the 1st one) had cool battle themes. This is one of the better ones.
