Granted I haven't played any of the games, so I miss out on the context of the music, I really prefer this style of writing to the earlier games' music. At least as a horror soundtrack goes.

+Lucio Fernandes Try listen to soundtracks from Hitman 2: Silent assassin. Pretty similar. There is a track called "Exploration" that sounds like this one.
Look up a Youtuber named TokyoBrando I believe (hope his channel is still around) he uploaded the complete soundtracks in 3-4 hour videos of each of the classic SH games with unused tracks as well. If you've got time to kill and want some creepy atmosphere. Or just look up "Silent Hill 100% soundtrack" in the search bar.

This game might be my favorite or second-fave in the series. While it may not be best overall, there's a lot to it that is excellent and unnerving in a different way from its predecessors. I really should play through it again soon.
An overlooked and underrated game, and one often slammed by critics. I however loved this game. The story is so disturbing and dark.

@Delagoya yeah... that really suck... I made that comment when kojima was confirmed to stop working with konami, and I was hoping that he would at least be allowed to finish that game like with MGS5, but no dice...

Silent Hill 2, best one..however, Silent Hill P.T., albeit only being a teaser was the only game other than SH2 to scare me beyond when playing it.
Silent Hill 3 imo was scarier than 2. The hospital room with the mirror...

Yamaoka went with quite a different style with this soundtrack compared to the previous games, which really isn't too surprising since the game itself also took a step away from the series' roots. I remember being disappointed by this game when I first beat it, but it's one of those games that you end up looking back more fondly, especially since it was the last game from Team Silent. The Room was definitely a well made and scary place (floating head outside the appartment anyone?). This dark atmospheric theme is surprisingly addicting, I often hit the replay button after a first listen. Well done, Yamaoka.
The Room was certainly the weakest of Team Silent's games (at least, imo), but when comparing it to the likes of Homecoming and Downpour, it's leagues better.
@Dalton McBleh I do give Homecoming some credit though. It did feel like a cinematic experience and it was Double Helix's very first game.
@Sammy102093 Eh, to each his own. While I do like Double Helix (Strider and KI are great), I still think they fucked up majorly on Homecoming.
What I love of SH4 is its mechanic of having a safe place in the first half and turning it into a possible death trap in the second half. Also the whole weird ambience and crazy stuff that can be seen happening in the background and the tons of extra artwork and music made it feel like there was more to it. For SH4 there are 3 official music albums as far as I know with some tracks that are present and others that are absent from the game. There are also some unofficial compilations made from the game files that have also music that apparently is absent from the game. Actually I think that the entire music from SH4, including absent tracks totals 4 hours. Of course according to TP, Yamaoka composed part of the game music before taking a look at the actual game, hence the great amount of music.
@Dalton McBleh and every other game they've made. Its a pretty short list and the two you've named are the only good games on it.
@SupraDarky Actually, SH4 is a case if what I call "Mario 2 Syndrome"; being its own title, at first, before being shoehorned into a popular franchise. So it stands to reason it might feel like a departure from the series norm.(Star Fox Adventures is another example I can think of off the top of my head)
@EvilMariobot Except for the fact that there is NO evidence supporting the idea that SH 4 was intended to be an original ip in development. It's one of the most popular myths on the internet.
Double Helix WAS forced to work on movie tie-in games by Activision though. The games they wanted to work on came out well.

I actually don't think this game deviated that much from the root premise that SH Is, or was? I mean, the only real thing missing, Is the semi-open world town of Silent Hill, otherwise you have everything else.
