So, I tried out Donkey Kong country for the first time today. When I came to this level, I had to pause the game for a moment and say out loud "Why is this music so beautiful?". So, besides the amazing soundtrack, the gameplay is very fun and the graphics very impressive, and the difficulty seems perfect so far. I understand now why so many people consider this game a masterpiece. I wish there would still be musics composed in the style of the SNES and N64. The lack of instruments composers had to put up with is what made beautiful pieces like this. Sure, it's not an epic orhestra or the peak of rock and metal, but it's just as amazing.

If you weren't gaming in the 90s and didn't play this game, you have no idea what it feels like to hear it. Even in 2019, I still have a Snes and this game. The controller is to a Super Famicom but that's ok. I also have a Sega Genesis. Damn, I wish I could go back in time. There were bad times but there was a nice time growing up in he 80s and 90s.

This track is even more amazing when you read into the backstory of how it was created. The SNES only had 64K of audio memory, which meant that tracks like this aren't actually complete audio tracks - they are individual notes painstakingly sequenced to create the illusion of music while fitting in that 64K. In the case of Aquatic Ambience, it was five weeks of hard work to get what you hear in this clip. Nowadays this track would just have been recorded as a straight audio file such as WAV or MP3.

I played the game when it just came out and I was like 5 years, this game and the Super Nintendo system was bought by my uncle, I had a great friendship along my uncle and Super Nintendo system and DK game created a magic enviroment back then, My uncle passed away in 2012 he was the father I never had, he was my best friend and he was the only reason why I can tell to anyone I have had the Best chilhood ever, every time I listen to this I remember my uncle and I am still getting flashbacks when he smiled at me every time he lost in the game, I still have the Super Nintendo and the DK game he purchased. This song is very special for me and it always makes me think abour my uncle he is the reason why I like listen to this, not for crying just to revive the moments we shared together.

OMG the feels....I came across a video on facebook a couple mins ago showing someone play the Aquatic level on Donkey Kong Country, and I instantly was brought to tears and a gigantic wave of nostalgia, euphoria, and sadness rushed over me all at once remembering my childhood playing this, along with other SNES games on a small black and white tv via RF adapter in the 90s. I miss how simple and carefree life was, parents were still together, and how happy I was in general...isn't music a wonderful thing? :P

I once sat in a tub of warm water in complete darkness for 3 hours listening to this. It triggered my brain to start rushing back memories of me playing this as a kid. My grandpa gave me this game as a gift for my birthday when I was little and I fell in live with it. My grandpa is dead now and listening to this song makes me so emotional. Without doubt the best DKC trilogy track, maybe even the best piece of VGM ever made. I love the initial part from 0:00 to 0:45. That part doesn't replay and is just so powerful and atmospheric. Truly amazing song.

Everything about this game was incredibly ahead of its time. Given the hardware limitations it is mind boggling what the developers were able to achieve. Takes me back to a simpler time. I was maybe 9 when this came out and now I have a son that's not much younger than I was the 1st time I played it. This song is both timeless yet quintessentially 90s.

My anecdote - I used to play DKC on a friends system - and if I was crashing there (university sleep-anywhere days), I'd often load this level, pause, and sleep to it. (audio through stereo, so TV off) Years later, I bought a console just for this game just for this level just for this music. Worth it.

I can see Vangelis being a huge influence in the style David Wise was trying to achieve. Reminds me of a track that could of been on the album Direct or even Soil Festivities.

there's probably about 20-30 games in my opinion that have 10/10 soundtracks from back to front, the donkey kong country trilogy would definitely be 3 of them...especially 1 and 2...off the top of my head other games i can think of are ocarina of time, assassin's creed II, goldeneye 007, deus ex: human revolution, halo 2, oblivion...but there's definitely many, many more..

Libra (Pokémon XD) theme, among many other VGM tracks, are among my favorites because they were designed to make you feel alone and pensive. @soulassassin0g I'm 25, and I feel the exact same way. Life was so much simpler back then (or at least to our minds it was). Games had more soul to them as well. Even if we didn't have the greatest graphics ever, it was the creativity and soul of games like DKC that helped make that period in gaming so special.

Don't forget, you can play them on the PC with an emulator, and it works very well. But there's something about hooking up that old SNES and taking it for a spin.

i can understand man. I swing between big times of nostalgia and times where i don't think of it. Funny how we share feelings with people living all over the world eh? I've played the hell out of DKC when i was around 5-6 years old at my cousin's house. They lived in this big house on a hill near perugia (center of italy). Since they are 10 years older than me they had all kind of consoles from the 80's and 90's. Snes was one of 'em. I always miss the feeling of dwelling in their living room furniture,stumbling on a box containing games and consoles. I miss that house. I went back to them last year. And all the upper floor where i used to play,well,they were restructuring the place. All gone. i hated it. it was like losing a part of my childhood. I wanted to share this memory with you,and it's funny thinking that while i know perfectly what i'm talking about,you just can imagine and wonder how that place was. But i feel good having talked to you about this. Care to share a memory too? :)
@Federico Sgamma that was beautiful. Okay, I'll share something with you. I remember growing up in the early 90's and it was a beautiful time to live. I lived in an apartment complex in a great neighborhood, where there's lots of children playing around, people would walk around and greet one another, and it felt like everyone knew each other and they got along. I remember playing DKC for the first time on the SNES there, the kids of the complex would always gather around the same place and talk about strategies and tips on how to beat the game, not just DKC but on any game, it was like the internet only better. Sometimes we would go around to each others houses, bouncing around the living room, causing a ruckus, and play two players games taking turns passing the controller around. Nowadays everyone stays home, they get online, and talk to their friends by sending words over a screen or talking to them through a microphone. I miss having conversation in person. These kids today don't know what or how it feels to actually socialize.
I find it true. out of curiosity,where you from? Here in italy not all the kids had a blast with games. General opinion was more "meh/they are harmful". I still did some gathering of kids at school talking about games. There was a kid who was doing last year at elementary while i was smaller that talked to me about ocarina of time around 1998. I was seven and i was blown away by all the small details he told to me. I still remember him rushing to me (guess i was very curious about games,so he enjoyed telling me his progress) one day telling me "hey,you can't imagine what i discovered yesterday! if you play a song on the ocarina you can make scarecrows dance!" Silly,yes,but that thing had a powerful impact on my imagination. I can make scarecrow dance in a game? i want to do it. Even if i don't speak to my dad in a long time over some finance issues nowadays,i'm still grateful to him for buying me a nes,a snes and a nintendo 64. The latter was his last gift while he and my mom were together. The unboxing under the christmas tree with diddy kong racing was...magical. I think it was the first time in my life that i spent being awake into the middle of the night. and i felt afraid of breaking a rule just to play. Eh,it was basically almost 20 years ago. Of course pokemon changed everything. Suddendly every kid fussed to get a gameboy. Even me of course. Another good memory is my dad buying a pc with windows 95. being a huge strategy fan he played command & conquer every night while i fell asleep. He did this up to tiberian sun in later years,when i was around ten years old. It's so silly that we do not talk anymore after all this nice memories. I wonder if he think about them as i do. The turning point,i guess,was receiving metal gear solid on christmas 1999. My cousin,the same of that house i talked about gave it to me. i still remember that he played the game already. And he was stunningly amazed by it. he was talking to my dad about the themes of the game. He had never seen so much in a game before. My dad took an interest too in the game since my cousin told some of the plot (my dad enjoyed a lot being in the army while young). but sadly never played it. Silly dad,he would have loved it I played the game,and even if the plot was real thick for a kid of my age,it felt simple thanks to it's "anime" style. there's so much i could talk about relating to videogames and childhood. nowadays i find harder and harder to get into games like when i was still a kid. But hell,everytime some people tell me "you're such a nerd,playing videogames so much" i always feel a sense of proudness. i know some people who tend to hide this hobby like it's something silly. I did it too thanks to some pricks in intermediary school. But now i just don't care. it's beautiful,and i think that videogames are a beautiful way of telling a story if developers do their job well. MGS taught me a lot about the sense of freedom,being who you really are and this kind of themes. And in someway i really miss those times when it was just a hobby for not everyone. there was something special about it. one last memory: there was a videogame shop in my town. Dad used to bring me there to rent games. i remember clearly the cover art for secret of mana. I wanted that game so badly. but the owner said to me "it's an rpg,you're probably too young to handle it,try again in some time". So i ended up renting Yoshi's Island. It was the best thing ever. And everytime i hear that carillon theme,it moves me. It's just the sound of my childhood in some way. I'm happy to have shared this things with you. Believe me,i never did it with anyone. But i ended up doing it now because of Aquatic Ambiance. I don't know if David Wise knows it,but hell,his music really opens doors leading into sharing nostalgia with other people. It is difficult for me to listen to this song without tearing up. The memories of the innocence and joy of childhood in the 90's. Technology, and specifically video games, were means of exploration and escape back then; you could feel and experience the heart of the game makers and composers almost. Now days technology is simply a tool to control the masses, or make people's lives a little bit easier. Easier isn't always better though. And it wasn't just video games, it was the culture. People born post-2000 honestly wouldn't understand (I was born in 1992). From everything like television shows like Rugrats, Hey Arnold!, Double Dare 2000, etc, to movies like Spy Kids, entertainment provided wholesome and truly emotionally affecting experiences. I watched an episode of The Wild Thornberry's last week, which was the first time I had seen that show in probably 10-15 years, and it was everything and more that I remembered. The glory days of animation. My experience with video games is an unusual one, in that I haven't owned a new console since the Playstation 2. Games and consoles made since then simply do not intrigue me any longer. It all began with the SNES for me, with Donkey Kong Country. There are also numerous joyous memories with Windows 95-98 (a lot of children games with my two cousins), N64 (DK 64, Mario Kart, 1080 Snowboarding, Tony Hawk), Playstation 2 (Downhill Domination), Gamecube (Sunshine Mario), Gameboy Advance/SP (Tony Hawk, Crash Bandicoot, Mario). The only game I have played since then is BZFlag for PC, a wonderful open-source tank game from the 90's, though now days there is little to no online activity. I wish everyday that I could return to my childhood in the late 90's. "Aquatic Ambience" and a few other tracks transport me back there, even if only for a few minutes, a few moments at a time. I believe one day, somehow, someway, I will get to experience those moments again, whether here, or beyond this life. I love you both, my fellow 90s kids! :)

Back then we didn't had a italian version of it until the 2000's i guess. So i had the chance of watching toons of that years: Dexter's laboratory and all the others by genndy tartakovsky (man,that guy sure has a weird surname) Courage the cowardly dog,ed edd n'eddy. Man,those were amazing times for toons,i agree. Sadly i just watched nickelodeon's line up very rarely,had a nickelodeon channel but it was in german,so i couldn't understand anything :P i have a marvelous memory of going to family friend's house some times. They have a daughter of my same age (we lost contact in the years tho,shame :\ ) who had a pc with MDK on it. It was 97 i guess? Game was simply amazing to my eyes,very weird moments in it. of all games i guess that it shaped my imagination the most with the subtle and no-sense irony of it. yes,technology has changed,and i agree on the fact that before games used to have more love put in it. Maybe they still do them with love,but...something's different,and you can feel it. last game that made me feel that sensation of "they put love,so much love in it" was the first hotline miami. It stunned me really

This is my favourite song in all videogames and second goes the Factory level's song. I love soundtracks and Donkey Kong wins being the best one. I don't care about epic orchestral ones from later games, they're good but this one was the first time I paused the game only to hear the music on an on.

That Wow!-Factor the whole game carried when we first played it. It looked so incredible, was fun to play and had such an amazing soundtrack. We were so completely blown away by it. Haven't had that in years until I played Xenoblade Chronicles and it showed me what awe is.

You soulsummenor, MASTAX1234, myself, and whoever else relates can cherish all of our memories of playing all 3 of the Donkey Kong Country SNES games with our moms. I still remember going to Wal Mart when I was little and buying DKC 3 with my parents. Sweet but successful tear-jerking memories. I already miss my mom a lot thinking of her everyday but this makes me miss her more. But I don't regret remembering those very sweet memories even if they make me cry.

My grandmother died a few years back and since then I've thought of her many times of course. She was never into video games apart from Donkey Kong country. A few weeks after she passed I acquired her super Nintendo, cleaned it and played the few games she had. I'll always remember this as an amazing time we shared together. She always hated the water level because it was too hard and I'd beat it for her. Much love, stay strong

I've been deaf since the year 1999, but this song is embed pretty heavily into my skull. I'm kinda surprised by the comments: I thought I was the only person alive who had ever felt an odd twinge of tranquility from listening to this. It's easily my favorite piece of instrumental music,and it takes me back to my youth, back when the SNES was the pinnacle of gaming. These days, N64 is considered a relic, though it was the 'wave of the future' back when I was a teen. Funny how times change. At least I've lived to hear this song. It sums up my childhood nicely.

I played DKC2 first in 2009 and playing this was so awesome. You can play this at any age and still love it. Heck, the same can be said for the entire series!

Somehow it's so relaxing that it makes you dive into your fondest childhood memories, those of a simpler time, when death had no meaning and finding the best way to have fun was everything. This song smells like hot milk and biscuits served on a Saturday morning by your mom, like kisses full of innocence on a middle school playground. Man, I wish I could stop the clock. Or go back there just once, just for a day.

I thought Returns sucked and Tropical Freeze was up there with DKC2. Granted, DKC2 is still the best in the series. And I'd say they're just as challenging, if not more.
My first DK was DKL2 for the original Gameboy. I was told it was a striped down version of DKC2 for the SNES. To this day, it's one of the most balanced and challenging platformers I've ever played. They actually managed to display the best graphics the GB had ever seen even though it wasn't powerfull enough to pull some of the simpler NES titles.

to this time Nintendo ruled everything and everywhere. but the mistake now is, that they want to do too exeggarated things like the wii and wii u. play with movements instead of tap the buttons. imagine a console named mega nintendo. or ultra nintendo. and imagine there is a normal controller like the snes, n64, or gamecube. and the console got a system like xbox one. and they make old the classics again. super metroid remake, a new f-zero, a new kirby, a pure new metroid game. zelda or a pokemon game like one of the handhelds. with open world and catchable pokemon. my god they would fuck everything the shit out...

@Hwarming FF6 has some really good tunes, but the DKC series had music which was above and beyond what is expected of any game.
@Steamboat64 I played the sequel to this before I played the original... Nostalgia doesn't have any part of my opinion when I say those two games had some of the best music I heard on the SNES. I don't doubt there are others equally as good; I just never heard 'em.

Most of the distortion is a result of limitations in the chip, Wise left the distortions in for the OST as he thought it made the sounds better. This man was years ahead of his time.

@Steamboat64 Dude I give Wise all the props in the world, he's one of my top 10 favorite composers of vg music, but FF6 had songs that would have been considered ambitious for games released on the N64 let alone the snes. Dancing Mad, and Aria (opera theme) were WELL advanced for any game of that time and blows anything that DKC had to offer out of the water. Love me my sticker and aquatic, but Uematsu is definitely the king of the SNES sound chip without question.
@EXEJON True, Yasunori Mitsudo has consistently produced soundtracks to games where just about the entire soundtrack is near perfect. Chrono series and the xenoblade series are definitely his best bodies of work, and both of them are pretty much perfection.

Technically, no, but really it is everywhere that matters. One 8-bit or 16-bit sound processor will be different to another, and as I said, the Genesis can make some sounds or instruments better than a SNES (like electric guitars).

As my blurry gaze clears, I"m able to make out the green digits on the VCR: 1:47am. . A familiar voice breaks my dreamlike transfixion--"Hey, wake up. It's your turn". My 9 year old brother? What the...I'm back on my old sofa... in my old basement. It's 1995, it's summer, and my only troubles are staying awake to beat this level. BLISS
The SNES was a fully 16-bit machine. The Genesis only had an 8-bit sound processor, though it makes some sounds better than a SNES can, but clearly this is not one of them.
The first video game soundtrack to actually make me put down my controller and listen to the music. I still remember it like it was yesterday. Just when I entered the first water in the game, I was greeted by this magnificent piece. For some reason, I almost always get depressed while listening to this. Maybe because it awakens some buried memories in me.

I've had this song in my head for the past 13 years... I used to watch my dad play this when I was little.
This is the level (Coral Capers) where I was like... I get it. I get why this is called Super Nintendo. To me, DKC is the game that defines the SNES. While there are better games such as Chrono Trigger, Act Raiser, Super Metroid,e tc. etc. this game represents the SNES and why it beat out the Genesis (my favorite console!). Without this game (and maybe if the 32X isn't built) the Genesis wins that era of console wars.

Now it reminds me of the wonderment of youth, the excitement of discovery, as well as the permanence of the past and the vastness of the future. It's beautiful and sad. Tranquil, but frightening. It's not a bad game, however it has a really idiotic fanbase that just bashes every other game needlessly. I've lost count of how many kids I've heard say "COD is God and everything else sucks!" or something similar to that vein. The fanbase is what drives a lot of people to dislike the game.
Why always this hate against COD? I never played it, I can't tell. But I guess there are people who enjoy playing COD as well as other great games. I'm just tired of all the hate :(

This is so perfect, how much fun could be had playing this game, and you would constantly go back to it and play the same level numerous times, literally just for the music at times, i truly miss and wish we had more games like this for our current consoles. in my opinion games went downhill soon after the PlayStation 2 was released. i need to find my SNES and get back on this game. and Lost Vikings.. ahh what a legendary game!

2002 was a very notable year, as it saw the rejuvenation of numerous franchises, as well as a number of famous new releases. Morrowind, GTA3, MoHAA, SSBM, Super Mario Sunshine, Kingdom Hearts... The list goes on and on and on. 2002 was probably one of the best years in gaming ever. Of course, the industry is still growing, and we probably get as many good games each year now as then, but from a relative perspective, it was a fantastic year.
I use this theme for my Valentines Day celebrations with my Girlfriend , played with a good bass speaker it puts her in a tranquil mood.

Never played the game when I was a kid. But damn, do I wish I could now...
Unfortunately my dad never had a SNES, only an NES and then he jumped to N64. So I can't say i feel nostalgic, but the song itself captures me. I just love a piece of music with a sense of mystery and exploration. I can just close my eyes and imagine an underwater abyss with many mysteries waiting to be discovered while the moonlight bathes the abyss with its dim glow. Whoever composed this knows how to create an atmosphere.
Amazing music. When I am listening it, I am going back in my childhood. I had Sega and my friend had Snes. The Donkey Kong blowed my mind. Now I playing Tomb Raider and Crysis 3 and feel nothing. DK forever.

yeah the Super Nintendo is well known for having a great sound card & music quality, I loved my Sega Genesis but in terms of music flexibility & quality, the SNES shits on the Genesis, it needed a Sega CD addon that costed a fortune back then & a Sega 32x to get 32 bit graphics to stay on par with what Nintendo was putting out, the SNES was WAYY ahead of its time all-around

Then, there's this song playing...it's just an underwater theme, but you keep dying over and over again. You don't care that you're dying because the music is so fucking good and the atmosphere is almost heavenly.

So many memories....Donkey Kong Country was the only game on the SNES that I wanted with all my soul but I could never get it because it was always sold out. I did get to borrow it from a family friend though, so that helped. A year later, I got it for my birthday on the Game Boy Color. I still have that cartridge and play it to this day. DKC1 was truly an amazing game, with graphics that looked better than what the system seemed capable of and an unforgettable soundtrack and great platforming.

Every era has had good and bad games, but it definitely feels like there's a general decline in the number of quality games. For example, the SNES had, Link to the Past, Megaman X, Yoshi's Island, Donkey Kong Country, Final Fantasy 3, Chrono Trigger, and many more. Xbox has Halo, and... Valve is one of the only remaining companies that consistently puts out good games and even they only have a few.

It was the graphics that got people interested no doubt, so if that's what he meant then I can agree, but people wouldn't have kept playing it if the gameplay wasn't there. There's no reason something can't be both visually impressive and high-quality. Not every game is either Call of Duty on one extreme or Minecraft on the other.

You're really missing out. There's some nice gems these days if you give them a chance. Donkey Kong Country Returns for the Wii is amazing and finds creative ways to surprise you with the scenery. I never was a fan of Rayman, but apparently people found Rayman Origins for the Xbox to be a grade A platformer. If you like Kirby, there's Return to Dreamland to satisfy and of course, there's the plethora of Mario games. I suggest trying those before you give up on today's games.
there is nothing like a super nintendo platformer.. i only have the donkey kongs and super mario left over.. lost most of my games. i think im gonna get a controller and start downloading some roms... i rarely game any more but i could play these all day.

I don't think that's quite fair to say. Pushing a game for its graphics was as prevalent back when this game came out as is now, if not even more so. Back during the Nintendo-Sega console wars, so many commercials focused on the power and graphics of the machine instead of the games themselves (remember "blast processing"?) In fact, the 3Dish graphics were probably the biggest marketing point I can remember for Donkey Kong Country.
Today is nothing compared to back then,Nostalgia hits hard. :(

Games today are about one thing.....money. That alone has destroyed games in this era. Im sorry pal. Check how much things have changed, you probably have payed a chokeload of money for new maps on every new COD game. So many games are just crawling with DLC thats either already on the disc that you have to pay to unlock, or they just give you a unfinished game for 60 and you pay to get the rest that they make up for later on. I see what yer sayin but you hafta understand that the heart is gone

This is the perfect explanation of the feeling. I didn't even like the level that much but it speaks to the emotion of the song if, 7 years later, I hear the song playing while I'm working and I'm instantly transported back in time to that same feeling I got hearing it as a kid.

One big problem with nuts and bolts is that it rarely had a moment of true seriousness to it. The whole story seemed a tribute and a piss take of the older games. Whilst the original had some great moments of comedy; mostly from grunty there were some really epic moments too. One that really stands out to me is when you finsh grunty's quiz and you get to the 'gameover' room. The music there was very tense and you knew that the final battle was approaching. Nuts and bolts was lacking this
This and stickerbush symphony always made me feel slightly melancholic as a kid, but in a good way. Captures the essence of the level perfectly.

@shredhead408 This is the SNES era were talking about. If a computer programmer decided to become a game developer they were pretty much seen as failures throwing their financial lives away. If you wanted money, you got a "real" job. Nowadays they're seen as prestigious and successful (even the unsuccessful hacks), but back then, most developers just loved playing video games and wanted to make their own. Getting paid for it (poorly, I might add), just let them do what they love and live.

(and SONY's a conglomerate, which just makes this sad) Microsoft has lost billions on the XBOX/360 and haven't earned a dime from them to this day, but profiting off of them was never their intent to begin with, so I guess I can't really criticize them. (The XBOX/360 only exist to hurt SONY.)

Really, a game doesn't need an industry changing element to be great. Look a cave story. That game is incredibly similar to Metroid and Castlevania, but it still feels fresh and new. Probably because it doesn't run off of 'nastalgia'. If you stripped STH4 or NSMBWii of all recognisable characters and themes everyone would realise how indifferent they are. Both of them are barely live up to their respective franchise's names. I guess the secret to a good game is a matter of how much they care.

I was so young when I got this game and heard this for the first time. When you're a child, you're in a dreamy magical bubble and it's all perfect. My father bought it for me. I asked him to play on the tough levels. The water levels were cool - with the swordfish - and even as a child I recognized how sensual and deep the music was. There is something sad and reminiscent about this song. When my dad died, my mom became extremely forlorn, and I played this game to avoid it all, but this song...

I miss the 90's so much! Back when you couldn't just look to the internet to find all the secrets in a game. When you actually had to find them by pure chance or by buying the guide book. When you had to think about every which jump. When the music and graphical design expanded you're imagination in every way possible. I almost wish everything would go back to the way things were then. But sadly it'll never happen. :(

When I was little, this was my first game. My mother didn't play very much, but she liked the water levels. She passed away within a year of getting the game, so since then, I've always thought of her when I play the levels, or hear the music. I've never told anyone that. Thanks Donkey Kong.

Remember, this song you are hearing was written for a sound chip with 64KB of RAM. Yes Kilobytes. And even still, only the first 32KB was usable. So you had 32KB to put the sound program, and the samples. Still amazes me what they could do with such little space.

@FnordPerfect Dave Wise produced almost all the music for Rare-produced NES games, like Battletoads, Snake Rattle n Roll, Wizards&Warriors and others. For the SNES he did both Battletoads games, the majority of DKC1, all of DKC2 and a few tracks for DKC3, though none of the level music. He also did Diddy Kong racing for N64 and all of the Game Boy Advance DKC3 music.

Aquatic Ambience is one of the best loved pieces of video game music. Just look at all the remixes out there on YouTube! The original music for DKC was co-written by Robin Beanland, Eveline Fischer and David Wise, all from England. The music has even been scored for orchestras, such was its impact.

@knightforce01 it probably did happen like that. The only reason Microsoft brought Rare was to hurt Nintendo. It had a good rep, and if it made some good games for the xbox, so much the better. If Microsoft could purchase Hal Labs or Intellegent Systems or Retro Studios they would for sure. Better to buy them and let them rot, than let them continue to work for the competition. That's what Vince did with WCW. Good ol' American attitude towards competitors.

its like listening to the ocean. i´m feeling like deep under water. the rays of the sun are weak, but you can still see your hand. the pressure on your ears that isnt that strong. the oxygen bubbles coming out of your mouth, but you can surprinsingly breath. the night is coming and everything turns black, but you feel no fear. its like you were there for your whole life.
This game came out November 21st, and my birthday is November 26th... one of the best birthday presents I ever got :)

I was playing this while I was fishing with my classmates. I let one girl use one my ear phone then she was suprised when she heard this song. Seriously! I could hear Donkey Kong's cry from inside the barrel box, felt like he was beneath the boat!

I downloaded the enitre DKC trilogy from the virtual console, and they are all the best platformers I ever played, and the music is just beautiful, and this is an example. :)

I went to a live concert the other day, with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra -- among several other pieces based on Nintendo games -- performing an arrangement of this song at the Concert Hall in Stockholm (Sweden). It was EXTREMELY beautiful. I have never played Donkey Kong Country, so I have no nostalgic memories of the game. But the song is great.

I played this when it first came out and the music set the mood quite well, i remember reaching the snow levels and it happened to start snowing outside.
Trying to swerve around his falling comrade, the next Zinger crashes into the "Players Choice Million Seller" ribbon. It makes a loud sound like a gong.
The next few seconds after this image go as follows: The Zinger is closing in on DK as the Slippa pounces. DK ducks, and they bite/sting one another. Rambi comically tramples the Gnawty. Diddy laughs while trying to maintain his grip. Krusha shouts "You guys go on ahead! I'll catch up!"

The Market is flooded with FPS games that feature that red screen recovery BS, games with Zombies in them and Music and Rythm games. This song is so depressing... It's the kind of sad that makes you want to get through the level, and you feel good about it when you're done, but you don't feel quite accomplished, it hides it's secrets by making you want to end it.
@Boonyakieat I totally agree with you. I remember when I received the first DKC for christmas, and my whole family gathered around and played it after. You know it's a heck of a game when the entire family likes it. Nowadays video game companies/creators seem less invested in the story and characters in the games and they just don't feel like they used to. I stopped buying consoles and games after the playstation 2, because newer consoles beyond that just didn't interest me much.
Anyone else remember being so excited for video games during christmas? Maybe even sneaking in your parents room to shake a couple presents around? I don't feel that anymore. It might be because I'm older... But I like to think its because video games just aren't made like they used to be.

It's not nostalgia that makes you like Aquatic Ambience (or Donkey Kong Country -or Banjo Kazooie).They really were epic and so purely knowledgable about creating what are videogame fairytales. This music is akin to the save room music in Resident Evil (a touch of discontent melancholy contrasted with a sense of peace). You know that the world isn't OK but someone wants to show you beauty for 3 and a half minutes. You'll hear it in the Metroid Prime music too Inside the crashed space frigate.

@Rowain Donkey Kong Country was revolutionary as it was one of the first games (if not the first) to use 3D pre-rendered graphics for in-game play which is impressive considering the SNES was a 16-bit console. Also its soundtrack was kick-ass.

@Kelvinian well, I'm not sure about Road Rash, but I found Tomb Raider to be awesome in its own way. Now it's a gem in my eyes due to how interesting the concept was, and that it parodied all of those 1930s and 40s movies while keeping a half of it original with the protagonist. Plus, it's funny to look into how she dies, it helped keep deaths from becoming boring in some games. The first game to make funny deaths though? I think that dates all the way back into the Atari era...

They show that a great video game does not need to be a FPS or war game or "mature." They continue to make unique, creative, fun games that are very memorable. It's sad that all kids will do today is play a game on the X-box , beat it in a week, and never touch it again. Games like DKC never get old.

I have this song playing in my conscience's background whenever I'm feeling emotional. It's been burned into my brain ever since I was a toddler. I'm fourteen now.

This game Ocarina of Time and Star Fox adventures(hell even all the other star fox games) have some of the best soundtracks Ive ever experienced in a video game and i fear ill never experience it again. Then Mario galaxy came out o.o

For a video game, Donkey Kong Country had some amazing music. It brings back alot of good memories of playing SNES

My older brother died two months ago from an overdose. He hadn't played much video games in the past ten years, but I remember always watching him play this back in the SNES days. In particular, this song always stuck out.to me and looking back it may have been the first piece of VG music I ever loved. There isn't a day that goes by when I don't think about him. Whenever I'm in mourning, I turn this on and just think of the good times I had with him. Hope you're doing well up there, Michael.

A relative from Germany brought me SNES when i was, i dont know, 8 maybe. I still have it after 10 years. :D And DK is my favourite game, this music reminds me of old times.

i still have my donkey kong country on Super Nintendo Entertainment System,but unfortunately it was sold 5 years later...now im using this emulator crap,which let's me feel my childhood once more,but even with emulator,this game must only be played on the Original SNES...that's my opinion about,how great this game REALLY is:)...

This level used to give me chills and it still does. When I was little, I had this game and so did my friend Harrison. I enjoyed playing the game but he was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING at it. He moved a couple years later and I was to never see him again. Maybe he's still into DKC and he'll see this. What's up Harrison!! Anyways, it's crazy that he beat the game and knew all the secrets because...we were only 6 and 7 years old. I don't know what you guys think, but that's impressive.
cd quality audio killed the good vg music we used to love and know even tho nintendos symphonic pieces are very well especially the soundtrack to ssb brawl.
If i have a child/children one day, i'll give him/her/them my supernintendo as his/her/their starter platform. they have to grow up, with what i grew up, just to remember an awesome childhood!
The thing I remember is how the water looked a little cooler in the second aquatic level and then really cold in the third...a progression from tropical to warm temperate to subarctic to....poison.

Microsoft didn't destroy Rare dumbass. Them bought them, and Rare was sick of Nintendo... that's why it happened. Microsoft just hasn't really capitalized on it yet... mostly cuz all the old games are still property of Nintendo. I doubt we'll ever see another DK.. Although Microsoft is getting Banjo-Kazooie so who knows!
