A collection of my favorite videogame music. Note that most of them are from games I played so I might miss some great ones from games I never played.

It's incredible to me that as soon as the second installment in the series, Samus could already be taking on the iconic look that's still used today.
This game scared me to bits.
I liked that the world was NOT varied -- the planet isn't trying to entertain you, it just IS. When you get lost, you feel like you really ARE lost in miles of caverns. I had to be an expert map-maker, but it's not like Samus was going to find a map terminal from which to download.

Probably the only great tune in the entire game.
Not my favorite metroid, but a great song.
Very underrated game. I occasionally return to it just to make sure I can still beat it in less than two hours.

Bought this game with some birthday money at Sears (yeah, surprisingly, they had a video game section). Loved the SR388 music in between the different areas. Helped make Samus one of my favorite characters (plus second main in SSB).
This is actually my favorite song of the entire series.
One of the few Gameboy songs that constantly stays in my playlists.
As monotonous as this game was...I still had a good time playing it for some reason.
little brother played through this game, but could never beat the harder metroids, would always have me do it. An interesting time then.

This game also suffered from the lack of a map feature, which made things difficult in terms of remembering where lava had previously been.
suffered from? nah. having a map really detracts from the whole "on an alien planet all by yourself wandering around" atmosphere. Plus a map would be impractical to even create due to the non-Euclidean room layout of Metroid II.
@thinfriedtofu Did the map detract from super Metroid in your opinion? And I don't see why it'd be impractical.
@thinfriedtofu Nah, a map was really needed. Playing with one greatly enhanced the gameplay. Makes the game enjoyable.
I agree that Metroid 2 didn't have as good music overall as the other games in the series, but IMO Metroid 2 had probably the best atmosphere in whole series thanks to very ambient sounds in the background and dark scenery.
This has me getting nostalgic, and I never even played the game.

This game had some pretty big faults like camera being too zoomed in, the controls feeling too floaty and the environments not being varied enough, but there's no denying that it introduced a lot of elements that we now all associate with the series. The graphics were also very impressive for the handheld. As for the music, it was very disappointing after the awesome chiptunes we got in Metroid, except for this catchy exploring theme. I think this game could really beneficiate from a remake like Zero Mission.

Also, the layout was freakin' confounding. I just bought it on VC for the 3DS, and I'm completely lost after the Spider Ball. *_IT'S NO USE!_*
@Parnifia the Bastard Unlike the first one, there is always an acid pit that won't go lower until you killed all metroids around, so you can't get that much lost. When you get the spider ball, it's a matter of exploring every wall you find. While you climb, also bomb away. I actually beat this game without a FAQ, but it was hard to find out sometimes where to go, specially at the end parts, but that's metroid for ya.
Remake Completed!! Samus Returns. I thought it was pretty good too.
