Definitely one of my favorite themes in the game.
It's amazing. They took a stage from one of the worst Sonic games ever and made it be one of the best stages in Sonic Generations.

I was more than pleased by this game's soundtrack. If there is any one thing that I was disappointed by with this game, it would be that Doomsday Zone was omitted. It would have been neat to see the modern take of that zone, at least in theory, and even if not then we'd have the remix to see us through the level.
As a modern Sonic fan, I can guarantee that this game is utterly fantastic! And I say 'modern Sonic fan' because in truth I'm not a big fan of playing as Classic Sonic, which is like half of this game, yet I still really enjoy it as a whole. Personally, I prefer this version over the Classic version, yet the Classic version is also really, really good. One really cool thing about this game's soundtrack is that once you have unlocked a song in the game, you can play it over any level you want to play in the game, even ones that you haven't played yet. For instance, if you unlocked the song to the original Green Hill Zone, you can play it over Crisis City.

Generations is an amazing game, definitely the Sonic game you've been missing since Adventure 2. I grew up with classic Sonic games but I still prefer the Modern levels because they just did them really well. They did the classic ones well, too, but Modern is just more fun, challenging and offers more room for mastery.
Generations is the first game in the series I've enjoyed a lot more than average since Sonic Adventure 2 Battle (though I also liked Colors.) It's a bit short in length but the whole game feels like a love letter to the series, and the only real weakness to it is the final boss fight being bizarrTHAT LOOKS LIKE A HOMING SHOT!

It was, but it had different levels from the 360/PS3 version

Ooh, I Just gotta... first... Okay, okay, umm ... Haven't played this game, never liked original sonic games, only ever liked the adventure games. Didn't like getting stopped frequently in the old ones, so I never had the patience to get good.
Late upload after I just came back home. I haven't played this game, but I really like the concept of being able to play both modern and classic versions of the various levels, each with their own take on the soundtrack. I feel like I'd easily prefer the classic version. Is there a general consensus on which version is better? As always with Sonic games, the soundtrack doesn't disappoint.
Not a general consensus, depends on the level. Some, like Chemical Plant, have better modern mixes, some like Rooftop Run have better classic mixes, some like this level have two awesome tracks, and Planet Wisp has neither, at least in my opinion. This game's soundtrack is amazing though, and the game, at least the console and PC versions, are pretty great :D

Classic Crisis City, Roof top run, Speed Highway & City Escape are all amazing
Zone for Zone I usually preferred the modern versions. Even though the 3D sonic can control a little clunky at times when it was good it was the best that the game had to offer. Hannah is right about planet wisp though, getting the S rank on the doppleganger race on that stage was pure hell.Â
Personally, I felt like the classic stages in general were a bit slow paced. I think some memorizing of the levels would pay off gold, though.
Generations is pretty fantastic, and I enjoyed being able to choose between classic and modern sonic (preferred sonic).

@SupraDarky Also listen to the 3DS soundtrack, as they used different stages. On the 3DS soundtrack, the Modern versions are overwhelmingly better than the Classic versions (especially the Genesis Era). Oh, except for Radical Highway (the Modern remix was a disaster) and Water Palace (the original music was already great, and the two remixes they made are even better.)
There are some stages that I definitely prefer as Classic Sonic, but there are some Modern Sonic stages that really surprised me with how good they were. The modern version of Chemical Plant has a surprising number of alternate paths, and the music in that stage is one of my favorites in the series. Overall, Generations is a really solid Sonic game (as far as gameplay and music is concerned), and it's the only 3D Sonic game I would recommend other than the Adventure series.
@***** Yeah, it honestly depends on the person. I like Modern Crisic City better than classic in that regard, so I guess I'm not normal either XD
Well, the controls of Classic Sonic feel really bad compared to the Genesis' games. Modern Sonic's platformig is better than in Unleashed though! :D
+Kniffel101 weird. Wasn't the point to capture the old physics/controls with the classic sonic? Did they botch that or did I miss something?
+ragnaroktomorro Yes, they tried but didn't quite make it happen properly! Compare the physics of "Sonic 2 HD" or "Sonic Fan Remix" with Generations' and you'll see what I mean! ^^
