tbh I had no idea this was based on any sort of pre existing franchise when I first played it. in fact even when I got older I still didn't realize Goldeneye was also a movie and not just a 007 game
I don't think I saw the movie until about 6 or 7 years after I played the game (shame, I know). When I finally did watch it, I couldn't help comparing the plot of the movie to the plot of the game and thinking the movie was wrong since I experienced the game first.

Good for it's time but I'm stumped why the spiritual successor: TimeSplitters hasn't gotten the same attention. It's the same game down to the way health and armor is displayed, only better graphics, crazy sense of humor.

This represents an era lost past. In the olden days of yore, when games had to be purchased at a brick-and-mortor store, developers took the time to make quality music, and multiplayer was SECONDARY to single player. A better time, basically.

this and halo are the two most important games in fps history. goldeneye gave us awesome multiplayer and custom gametypes, which made it incredibily fun halo gave us balancing in a first person shooter. every other game is built off these two games. nothing revolutionary has been for multiplayer as these two have.
this was the FPS before FPS's were FPS's. It was the golden classic. 007 goldeneye will always be a special one, kinda like mario 64.
First game i brought on the N64 in 1998. Golden Eye was ahead of its time when it came out.

It's because they want you to buy another console and another of that game. It's all about money, hardly anyone in the business cares about anything else. They only make it if they believe it'll make them money.
Internet access is becoming more and more affordable worldwide, MP games went up literally 2451% from 2005-2010. Devs don't make games like they used to.....sadly. I miss the older days to, but you have to admit we have gotten alot of classics this generation of games. Witcher, call of duty 4, halo 3, team fortress 2, orange box, portal, uncharted 2, god of war 3, super mario galaxy. It is a shame that split screen games are pretty much dead, besides halo.

Are game makers getting so lazy they won't add a regular multiplayer mode just online? WTF is with that SHIST! There's no reason not to include it in the game if you can. It prob wouldn't even add too much to the cost of making the game. Sometimes you just want to hang out with some friends in the same room and try to smash each other on some video games. NO excuse because the older games had it.

i remember showing this to my freinds and they all thought " an fps on 64? this game must suck" so i tell them no its awsome and has some of the best music for 64. i start it up, start on the dam level. they all go 'yeah this music sucks a..." thats when the freakin awsome guitar comes in and their now all in shock over the awsomeness of this song, which happens to be the FIRST level.

@Einehagen I've been to the international Spy museum in DC and I saw in the store posters of pretty much all the big James Bond movies. By far, the Goldeneye poster looked the coolest.

Mmmm... this soundtrack might fit in a TV spot for military recruiting or recruiting of secret agents.
Basically, the music says: "I know that you aren’t a gamer. Neither you’re a secret agent. Try the first level and be a secret agent for one day. You will remember this soundtrack forever." Definitely, the music of the first level attracts the player so that this one keeps on playing from now on.
You will now notice that the left corner of his mouth extends past the gun
you know some first level domination was about to go down as soon as this music started up. best part about agent difficulty: ALL you need to do is run through, kill some green coats, and jump off of the freakin' dam. you could blaze by, let alarms go off, and still win by jumping off before you got shot to hell. such an excellent game.
One of the greatest levels in FPS history, one of the most iconic scenes in videogame history, it doesn't matter if there was no bungie rope because when I first saw this it looked super realistic to my 90's eyes. Times sure have changed.

Wow, I only played this game a few times YEARS ago, yet I still remember this song clearly. I guess it helps that it's a variation on the main Bond theme or whatever, but still...
still one of the best shooters ever made <3 controls are perfect, stages are cool and fun hits leave blood marks on enemies and they even act like they were hit in the are you aimed. + the soundtrack is just plain awesome

The best part of this game was its simplicity, none of the shit gimmicks you see nowdays. I think that's whats Rare is forgetting. I mean what new FPS can you play now with only one analogue stick?

I was refering to playstation fanboys of the PS1 (remember that one, the first one) who would rip on the N64 and they'd give it all "GRaphics are so much better blah blah blah" and all you had to say is " Have they released goldeneye for the playstation yet? I swear, how many time I was playing 4 player goldeneye with my friends and in a tight situation one of us would yank the controller back and the N64 would fall onto the floor. I did it a million times and yet, the game and console still work perfectly. It was truly a brilliant console, dont let the greystation fanboys tell you otherwise, cos when they start up with "the PS is waaaaay better" you just had to say 1 WORD "GOLDENEYE, MUTHERFUCKER!"...okay, thats 2 words.
and also emimys used to try and evade my shots by rolling id shoot them while they rolled and they would stand up then immidietly keel over and die lol
i once used this 40 button cheat input on multi-played to become invisible on the golden gun stage( think the one with the multiple floors and secret passeges) and my dad kept going where the hell are you fun times

I remember this level too. I remember there was some building in the distance over some water that you couldn't get to, and I remember that at the end, you had to bungee-jump (or something)...

I used to be able to upload stereo videos with a trick but it doesn't work anymore. You can try uploading your video then adding "&fmt=18" at the end of the URL for Stereo sound.

oh man, this takes me back. this was the best game based on a movie. the music in this game was perfect, it really made you feel like you were James Bond. my fondest memories of this game was playing multiplayer with the proximity mines. you didn't know if that weapon or door was safe.
