That's you're opinion, mine says he had a masterpiece here and capitalized it. I was happy to here the variant of this song in the first major boss fight for KH, but it just doesn't measure up to the original we hear here.

Enix happened, piece of shit. Every single game is ruined, except for Valkyrie Profile Silmeria. But that's long gone...miss Square alone.
As much as I like old Square, Squeenix still has a ton of good games. Just to list a few: Bravely Default/Second The World Ends With You Kingdom Hearts I Am Setsuna Final Fantasy XV (though some might disagree more on this one) And there are still others, but this is just off the top of my head. They still make good games, with the exception of crap like Life is Strange, which "hella" sucks ass.
Lmao The World Ends With You is better than most old Square games (except Final Fantasy IX, VI, and VII) and Kingdom Hearts is a great series. The others are debatable, but they're by no means 'bad' games.

That Square magic is still there. Take a look at Final Fantasy XIV, for instance. Fantastic storytelling, really memorable characters, and an insane soundtrack that has both quality *and* quantity. If I'm going to be honest, as much as I love Legend of Mana, it.... hasn't aged well at all. Only Mana games I think that have are Secret of Mana and Seiken Densetsu 3.
They abandoned their old fans and creating crap for younger shallow minded gamers now.

As always, near something big when I hear this.
And once again, Yoko Shimomura does not disappoint.
This is one of my favorite games ever!
It surprised me this isn't a battle theme, plays in some tower apparently, nonetheless a great song.
Three years later, I hope you've experienced this game by now, so you might know this. There is no "battle music" in Legend of Mana, the area music continues to play through battle.
I'm sure Yoko Shimomura had that in mind when she composed for the game-- songs had to work for areas both while in battle and out of battle. And they definitely do!

What is really important is the art direction, which is how the individual art assets combine together to realize the creative vision of the game authors. Sadly, many modern games drop this out entirely and go with uninspired but cutting edge visuals (and blow the entire budget on this or marketing...). Sometimes limitations can bring out the best in a given medium.

Because the first thing people do when comparing new games to old is bring up graphics. Graphics are important, yes and they can add to a game. SupaWaffle is merely stating that it's not graphics that make the game, but the way in which art, story, and experience come together. Graphics don't make a game, and neither does art or story. A lot of people like to complain about graphics in the older games.
Yup, very recognizables indeed. It´s the wood and strings section that plays a rapid and stacatto melody and then the brass and percursion come in and repeat in a minor scale.
I'm starting to be able to recognize Shimomura's music. There must be some similar element across it all.

I think domina town theme and nostalgic song are great examples of traditional RPG theme, and moonlight city are great since it's so different than the traditional (and even modern times RPG), diddle's organ is great because it's on accordion ^^ and maker's gallop is something that would stuck in your head for years. I hope you're adding lots to your list, because this Mana has the best VGM!

This song's OK for sure, though. Also, as if the music wasn't enough, the visuals for LOM were just splendid.

Heh heh I guess I should start playing again. It's been a while but I never really used the 'chucks so I feel like making a new one. I'd always built so many swords and axes. Maybe my second time through I did lots of bow. That gives me a fun idea for a video, but my 'lil homie doesn't have school, I'll have the PS2 and I can't do a 'bro like that.

Great tune brings back memries.. Im dissapointed Square dint release tis in Europe.. had to mod my ps1 and get US version.
I only played the game once (rented it) but I clipped all the art I could find out of magazines. I LOVED the style. Shinichi Kameoka has since become one of my favorite illustrators and influenced my own art career quite a bit. You're right, supawaffle, a games art direction is SO much more important than a powerful graphics engine.

There is a lot of music I hardly remember from the game myself. This one happens to be the same music on Luon Highway, so I know it well XD You can grind 1~40 on the Chobin Hoods there in matter of minutes!!
