1. Paper Mario 2. TTYD 3. With the reputation Square has lately, not thrilled. 4. I would say Sonic, but that already had an RPG (which sucked), so I'll instead say Team Fortress 2. The different classes and their weapons could make for a lot of cool strategies, and a simple, goofy plot with lots of humor would suit me down to the ground. A Wario Land RPG would be awesome too, as I think they could do a lot with status ailments that either help or hurt you depending on the situation. As a mega-fan of TTYD, I long for a day when another game can capture that same magic. The perfect combination of sharp comedy and lovable characters with incredible gameplay variety and refined combat HAS to exist at some point in the future. It just has to.

Fun fact, the original square team who developed Mario RPG for the Snes left square and went on to work for Nintendo on the Mario&Luigi series. So there you have it, the true successor to Super Mario RPG.

Fantastic video! Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door is my favorite game of all time. Also the only reason I like Bowser's Inside Story the most in the Mario and Luigi games is because it's fricken Bowser! Bowser is the greatest. Getting to see a different side of him than you see in other games is what makes that game so much fun. Don't you remember Super Mario RPG and how cool it was to have Bowser on your side. That's what Bowser's Inside Story felt like to me and plus I think that game has the best music in the Mario and Luigi series. Yoko Shimomura is a god. Don't forget what other game she composed on (Super Mario RPG). Can't help it but shutter when I think of the Forest Maze song. The Mario RPG series is hands down the greatest series in existence. It is the perfect combination of quirkiness and amazingly fun gameplay elements that puts it on the top of my list. Thanks for making this video. It was a treat reading someone else's opinion on the series. Keep uploading awesome VGM's. It helps me discover new games I might want to play one day, even if it's just for the music. :)

1. Overall, I think I prefer the Mario & Luigi series just because of how amazing Bowser's Inside Story was. Of course, Super Paper Mario is also an exceptional game, especially if you can get past Chapter 5. 2. It's a tie between Bowser's Inside Story and Super Paper Mario. Dream Team is a very close runner-up, though. 3. I would probably be excited like I am whenever anything important like that is announced. Having never personally played the original myself, though, I don't think I would be feeling it to the extent that other people might. 4. A Super Smash Bros. RPG I think would be very interesting to try. Imagine fighting a random monster with Captain Falcon, Ice Climbers, Lucina, and Lucas.

I started with Super Paper Mario, which I found weird because of it's style with flipside and the pixls and so on. Fortunately, I continued with Sticker Star and the N64 Paper Mario and became a huge fan of the series. I'm currently playing TTYD and Super Star Saga, it's a lot of fun :) 1. Paper Mario 2. Ah man, picking between Paper Mario and Mario & Luigi is a tough one for me, since I've played the games clustered together and never played Thousand Year Door. Can't I just have both? I love both series! As for all time favorite, I have to say I was really psyched for Bowser's Inside Story, when it originally came out. It was overall the very first game I played in either series and I really like what came out of it. The order I played them in: Bowser's Inside Story, Super Paper Mario, (Partners in Time- didn't finish), Paper Mario, Super Mario RPG (didn't finish), Dream Team, and Superstar Saga. And from that I figured out I don't do difficulty curves well. I don't know anything about another Super Mario RPG from Square Enix. Though considering it's Mario, I'd probably take it. Eh, no response to the last one though.

1: Paper Mario 2: TTYD 3: If it still felt like the original, and didn't have ridiculous cameos for no reason, I would be VERY excited. Kind of a moot point though; can't see Nintendo letting SQEX have the rights to their characters again. 4: I think a Metroid RPG might be pretty cool. The basic system is already there: varying weapons, suit upgrades, energy tanks, etc. but with an exp/level system I think that would add more depth to it. Besides, Nintendo knows they royally f*ucked up when they allowed Team Ninja to make Other M, so maybe at this point they'd be open to suggestions. Who knows.

1. Definitely the Paper Mario series for me 2. Thousand Year Door was my first paper mario game and remains my favourite! Not saying Paper Mario was bad, I loved it in fact. But I think TTYD wins by a little bit more. 3. If Nintendo was working alongside Square Enix, I'd probably approach it with great interest, but also be prepared for the worst. If it was just square enix... 4. Actually I've been thinking about how a Mega Man RPG in the style of Paper Mario would be pretty cool. : ). I'm aware they already have an RPG game in the X series, but Mega Man is generally not an RPG series so seeing another one (maybe with the classic series) might be cool.

Well i'm not that big a fan of SMRPG to begin with, but i'll answer anyway; I would be worried and also confused given that Square and Nintendos partnership has drifted apart long since that time. 4. Hmm, can't think of any current existing franchises that would be just as good or better if it was an RPG, so just create new franchises to fill those. edit: As some others in the comment section said, Kirby could be a good choice.

1. REALLY hard for me to choose, but I'll just go ahead and say Paper Mario as I've played all the games in the series (and I've yet to touch Dream Team). 2. Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door followed closely by Superstar Saga. 3. I'd probably have a heart attack from the excitement. 4. Call me crazy, but I would love to see a Crash Bandicoot RPG game with the characters having their original PS1/early PS2 models and a Mario & Luigi-esque battle system. I feel it could work out nicely.

1. Paper Mario. I like M&L's combat more, but the dungeons drag on too much. 2. TTYD entertained me from start to finish. Super Mario RPG also entertained me non-stop, but it's a lot shorter. 3. If I could get Squaresoft circa 1998 to come back and make Super Mario RPG 2, very excited. This Lightning Returns crap though worries me to no end. 4. Kirby works too well. I think Star Fox would work well as a strategy game.

I would definitely be excited, but I'd be a bit worried if some sort of crazy decision regarding the game was revealed. 4. I would love to see the King of Fighters have an RPG. I think SNK Playmore could pull it off if they worked with an RPG focused company, particularly Atlus.

1. N/A, as I have never played a game in either series. 2. Super Mario RPG by default, since that's the only Mario RPG I played. Still a good game with lots of funny moments, even though it's the easiest SNES RPG of the three I've played (Earthbound and Chrono Trigger). 3. Square Enix can't seem to do anything right lately, so I'd be worried. 4. It didn't take me long to think about this one before deciding on Kirby. The franchise seems like a natural fit for an RPG series.

1. Paper Mario by a slight, slight amount. Both great, only game of either franchise I haven't played is Sticker Star due to it not looking very fun to me, and PiT is the weakest entry of either series that I've played. The babies were kind of dumb, the Bros. Attack system was godawful, and the difficulty was all over the place. Still a good game. 2. I really like The Thousand Year Door and think it is a better game, but Superstar Saga has to be my favorite. I dunno why, it just is. Better pacing, I guessl 3. As unlikely as it seems, I'd be cool with that. It's kinda sad how much Square has changed, as the Squaresoft of the 90's seems totally gone. The fact that Nintendo and Square aren't on as good terms anymore makes the sort of stuff like Cecil in Smash Bros. completely impossible. 4. Megaman? Wait, I think they already did that. So uh, Kirby, because like the rest of what people seem to think, it sounds like fun to me.

1. Paper Mario because I've sadly never played a M&L game. 2. The original Super Mario RPG. It IS too easy, but still by far the funnest IMO. 3. I'd be really excited, and then worried. Not for a Lightning cameo, but for the graphics to try and be uber-realistic with particle effects EVERYWHERE. Plus vocals in the ost. 4. Hard to say... most games have tried it. (Sonic, Megaman, etc.) Maybe Bastion or Bit.Trip. With the way those games' visuals and worlds work they could come up with some interesting ideas. Plus they both have good music, so there's that. :D

1. The M&L series is more consistent, I take my 2nd-4th ranked game in that series over my 2nd-4th ranked games in the PM series. 2. It was TYYD for a while but Dream Team was so amazing, it's a close call between both. 3. I would not be excited, SMRPG was my least favorite Mario RPG up until Sticker Star came out (I'm a hate it person for that game). 4. RPGs aren't my favorite kind of game but I would probably choose the Kirby series, it would interesting to see how copy abilities could be implemented in battles.

I have to warn you Supra: I'm a huge fan of the Paper Mario franchise (especially TTYD, like you it's one of my favorite games ever) and I even love Super Paper Mario despite a lot of it's flaws. Sticker Star is just awful. I literally couldn't finish it. The clever writing is absent (Peach only gets 3 lines and Bowser never even speaks) and the gameplay is mediocre. I got about halfway through the game before stopping and my friend who finished the game told me it only gets worse from there on out. Hopefully we'll get a fully-fledged PM sequel on the WiiU sometime in the future.

1. Gotta be the Paper Mario franchise, heck it pretty much was my introduction to RPGs besides 1 other game. 2. I would like to give this to Super Paper Mario, but I can't just pass over Thousand Year Door like that, it was a game that was too good to me in every possible way and a game that will always have a special place in my heart. 3. I don't know, it's been so long, would they even be able to make a worthy sequel that is different enough from Nintendo's 2 series yet still has the unique theme of Mario RPG? I somewhat fear that doing something like that would get people excited and then end in the majority being disappointed with the resulting game. 4. Zelda could actually work really well, although considering that they take flipping forever with just the main series, don't know if that's likely.

I cannot wait to play Paper Mario: TTYD. From all the praise this game gets, I'm really hoping it would become one my favourites of all-time as well. 1. Even though Paper Mario is a fantastic franchise, I think I'd still go for the Mario and Luigi games. Yoko Shimomura as the composer is the thing that pushes it a little bit forward for me. 2. Currently, Mario and Luigi: Dream Team, even though I'm still playing it and haven't finished yet. 3. I wouldn't mind. And if they were to put Final Fantasy cameos in it, I imagine it would mostly be as an optional boss. 4. Personally, I want to see a Sonic RPG. Unlike that crappy Chronicles game, I want to see an RPG that actually makes use of Sonic's running mechanics. It can happen.

Paper Mario. Paper Mario. Everything about it, the color schemes, atmospheres, music. I would be excited. I don't have a negative mindset with Square Enix right now. I want to see a Sonic RPG done right. I honestly want to see where a sequel to Sonic Chronicles would go, but it seems to have faded into time. Dream Team is alright so far. There's a ton of tutorials at the beginning, but it slowly kind of...let's go of your hand after a while. And even among the tutorials, the game's challenging, unlike PiT.

The tutorials in the M&L games didn't annoy me until Dream Team. The first two hours or so of that game are a chore,Jesus Christ. After that,the game does get really good,although I think it has the weakest story and characters of any Mario RPG excluding Sticker Star. It is really fun though,and the soundtrack is amazing.

1) I prefer the Paper Mario series. The developers were just capable of doing more on the consoles than they were on the handhelds, even though both series are great. 2) Super Mario RPG will always be my favorite in the series. Of course it will be because it's my favorite game of all time! 3) There was a time when I had hoped for a sequel to the franchise, or even ports to the GBA or DS. I would like a Mario RPG in the vein of an SNES-era RPG, but we're spoiled with all these great games regardless, so I can certainly live without it. 4) I'm one of those guys, ever since playing EverQuest all those years ago, always wanted to see how an MMORPG of the Zelda series would go. It would probably be pretty silly, but I'd say it sounds great on paper!

1. I'm not sure if I prefer the Paper Mario series or the Mario & Luigi series more. 2. Favorite is Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga. I consider it the best game for the Game Boy Advance. None of the other M&L games can really match it (I've also just recently started playing Dream Team). 3. I would be excited for a sequel to Super Mario RPG. Though I would be worried if it was too different than the first game. I've been dreaming of this for the last few years. A Mario RPG in the style of Final Fantasy IX's gameplay would be badass. 4. I'm not too sure on this.

1: M&L only because I couldn't get into the Paper Mario games. 2: M&L SuperStar Saga. One of my all-time favorite games for the handheld. The amount of humor and good mechanics never gets old. 3: I'd love to see Super Mario RPG have a sequel, although I'm worried if they mess up the mechanics. 4: Not really sure on this one.

Is it weird that M&L:PiT is more nostalgic to me than M&L:SS, even though I got SS three years before PiT? I also liked Super Paper Mario, but that's probably because it's nostalgic also. And I haven't played or seen a lot of the other games. Anyway: 1: I must submit to nostalgia. M&L. 2: I'm not really sure... I guess, M&L SS, because of it's simplicity and good feel, though I still have a few gripes with it. 3: For some reason, I didn't actually like SMRPG as much as everyone else... But recently, I don't know why, it just started to grow on me spontaneously. If a sequel was announced, I'm not sure... I think I'd be a little surprised, but seeing the condition SE is in now... 4: Uhg, tough question... Kirby is the first thing that comes to mind, but maybe... ... I know this sounds really, REALLY out there, but Legend of Zelda? Anyone with me on this? Or would I be a terrible publisher?

Honestly if I were you SupraDarky, I would just put every single song from this game in the list. This is one of my all time favorite games. I played it as a kid, and not only did it introduce me to mario and rpgs, but video games as a whole.

I really think you'll enjoy Dream Team. There were some parts that got on my nerves and the main villain is kind of meh, but I ultimately was sucked into the game from the get-go and was sad when I finished it. I thought the music was first-rate (particularly like Law of Mount Pajamaja), and the humor was great. Also: -Generally, I prefer Paper Mario, and even really loved Super Paper Mario, but I don't like the direction Sticker Star took the franchise. M&L has been more consistent and always entertaining, so I'm actually picking M&L. -Weird taste again, but I'm going with Super Paper Mario. I didn't originally like the change from turn-based fighting, but I'm naturally more of an action/platformer man anyway. Also, I loved the characters and the story. There were some surprisingly dark elements strewn throughout the game, and they gave me feels. -Mixed feelings. But overall, excited. Even if it were shitty, I'd probably play the whole thing. -Kirby maybe? All the classic baddies like Poppy bros. and Sir Kibble would be cool in a strategy RPG.

Definitely love the highlighting of key points. My opinions: Sticker Star: Good as it's own game, but when designed and titled with Paper Mario, it took a huge plunge. What you've heard is right, battling only rewards you with some coins back and practice, which is important, but not nearly as important as having stronger stickers and you'll probably battle enough just avoiding enemies. In RPGs I battle every enemy I see until it stops giving EXP, but in this game, although they give out stickers like it's water, I was really sad that battles were just an annoyance by anyone's terms. I would not recommend getting this game no matter who you are, it's just that bad WITH the name tag Paper Mario. If you ignore it's a Paper Mario game, it's OK, but still pretty bad. Either way, the characters very high consciousness of their paper material, the lack of a rewarding battle system, huge leaps in difficulty at some points, and character's unbridled tongue when it comes to talking paper kill the game for me. However... Mario & Luigi: Dream Team is an amazing game. I wouldn't say as fun as the first two games, but definitely better than M&L: Bowser's Inside Story. It's a bit easier because they decided to add a hard mode like in LoZ:OoT 3D, but I wish they would have given me that option from the very beginning. I wish I could tell you more, but I haven't played it in a while due to my L and R buttons breaking. (they always seem to do that on DS systems) I'd love to see more of the imagination that went into the first two Paper Marios, Super Mario RPG, and the first two M&L games in today's games... Sticker Star is a good game on its own, but it's a let down compared to the first two. I'm hesitant to get M&L 4, but the demo was pretty fun. 1. Paper Mario series 2. PM:TTYD 3. Excited and curious. 4. A Metroid RPG would be neat.

Paper Mario. Paper Mario. Worried. WORRIED. Kirby. People always give me shit when I tell them that I prefer PM over TTYD, but it's just my preference. I have no idea why because I should like it more. It's not nostalgia, I can appreciate that TTYD is objectively a better game, but.. I get lazy as soon as I'm done with Chapter 3 because I know the next two are backtrack fests. And don't get me started on the General White search.

So, I'd say I prefer PM probably because it has better pacing and in my opinion a better, more traditional atmosphere. (And I know some people prefer TTYD because it goes OUT of Mario's traditional atmosphere)

PM is a ridiculously refined game. It is simpler in many ways compared to TTYD, but what is there is obscenely polished. If PM is "clean", TTYD is a bit "messy". Not that TTYD didn't add many great things and build on the concepts introduced in PM in fantastic ways, but it did feel a little more like "quantity over quality". I still prefer TTYD as a whole, but I can't blame anyone for preferring PM. Either way, they are both unique experiences of their own, there are memorable characters, moments, and chapters in each game that you can't experience in the other, and that's ultimately what makes each one worth playing.

You said it wasn't too long so I'll definitely jump right on it. 4. Honestly, I think a Legend of Zelda RPG spin-off would be exciting. Zelda 2 has RPG elements, but it'd be cool if they went with a unique battle system for it, like the Mario and Luigi games.

I actually didn't like TYD, because of the level design. The battle system was wonderful, and the writing was pretty good, but the over all progressing through the game left me tired of the artificial lengthening of the game. The first and last chapter were amazing, but the chapter in between had a lot repetition. My favourite Paper mario would be Super Paper Mario, while my favourite Mario RPG would be Paper mario.

Gotta say this was a great vid! Not only was it a nice way to listen to some music, but the history and personal experiences make it enjoyable. I've gotta agree with you, Super Paper Mario is very underrated, but TTYD will always be the best to many people.

Oh man, I just recently started playing The Thousand Year Door over again myself, and The Glitz Pit and the train chapters are my all time favorites! Unfortunately, that game also has one of the most annoying chapters too, being the Twilight Town one. Thematically, it's fantastic, with Mario being in a valley of shadows and even becoming a literal nameless shadow himself. The thing that ruins it for me though, is the fact that, and I've counted, you have to go through that enclosed, enemy filled forest 5 times in total, and it's not like the area is being used in new ways each time, it's just pure backtracking. Otherwise, it's an amazing game.

1. Mario and Luigi waaaaay over Paper Mario. I prefer the story, the gameplay, the humoer and the characters. 2. Bowser's Inside Story, although TTYD was amazing (the ending was sooo boring, though) 3. I wouldn't give a crap, because Super Mario RPG has always been that game that I will never play. It doesn't appeal to me at all. 4. I wouldn't give RPG treatment to any game, because RPGs are made to be, and the reason why the Mario games have so much humor is to make it tolerable, it's just weird in my opinion.

1) Paper Mario: The story and writing are superior, and those carry the games more than the battle system for me. 2) SMRPG: It has the fewest flaws of any of the games, from control to gameplay to story. 3) Worred: Does anyone trust Square-Enix to do justice to that series? 4) I'd mix Street Fighter with Suikoden...being able to recruit or fight every Street Fighter character with their own staple moves would be too awesome.

I really enjoy the Paper Mario series, but the first one I got and my favorite is Super Paper Mario. I've never been too big on RPGs and the flip mechanic looked like lots of fun. After countless recommendations, I went back to the rest of the series and loved them a lot. Thanks to the Paper Mario games, I'm always willing to give any RPG a chance, but sadly I still haven't gotten to play super mario rpg.

Congrats on this one! Super Mario RPG games are my favourite RPG franchise. I prefer Paper Mario to Mario and Luigi. I can say that Super Mario RPG is my favourite for nostalgic reasons being the first RPG I've played, but from a gameplay perspective, Thousand Year Door takes the cake. I'd love a sequel to the original Mario RPG. The only FF cameo I can think of is a Moogle or a Black Mage. In terms of a genre to bring RPG elements to, I can't really think of one. Maybe something like Actraiser on SNES, but better?

I finished building my first PC and transfering all my files onto it after a couple days and finally had time to work on this video. I was about to wait and upload it tomorrow since it's already late, but I figured I really didn't have any reason to push it back another day. Oh and watching the video again... the word of the day : mechanic.

Starting on New Years Day, I took it upon myself to total up the number of songs you uploaded in 2013. In an Excel Spreadsheet, I listed each song uploaded, who the composer was and what system they were. After working on it for a number of days, I can finally release the results. The game with the most uploads in 2013 was Earthbound (3 entries); the composer who had the most entries is Koji Kondo (10 entries); there were 97 new games added to the list and the system that had the most entries was PC with 57. Thanks, Gabe. It took about a week to put them together. I'm really glad that I did them. I also started compiling the uploads for 2014 together.
