This game was so much better than the fourth one, who is just a bad joke.
Maria and Peppita were my favorite. I think I beat the game by spamming Icicle Spears or whatever it was.
This game broke my heart. It started off promising but it fell apart in nearly every area as it went along. The plot twist just further added insult to injury. This series and me in general don't seem to click as even the remake of the original bored me and SO4 was terrible. SO2 is considered the holy grail in the franchise but seeing as I have disliked every other SO game and their design is the same at the core and didn't do anything for me, may be the series for me in general that I can't enjoy.
Sorry you didn't approve of it, I found it to be the most enjoyable of the series.
One of the best RPGs on the PS2, so many hours I put into this game. So worth it.
I got stuck in the hotel for about 2 months, then finally turned it back on and loved every minute after!

Most fun charater to me is still Cliff on FAM (best feature of the entire game) with Hammer of Might on both X-Long and O-Long. ;-) But of course nothing can stand up to Mario especially in post game dungeons. I managed to get all three "Freya on 4D" Battle Trophies at the same time with only Maria even though I ran out of Stun Bombs halfway through the fight. That's how overpowered she is. Never used Albel though aside from my very first playthrough.

I hated this game so much growing up. I did think the soundtrack was alright though. This was one of my favorite songs.

I didn't really like this game all that much, but my god this track is so nostalgic. This, Rust Color, and The Desolate Smell of Earth are my favorites from this game. You know, I just might give this game another chance... in 10 or so years when I get through my backlog. :P
Motoi Sakuraba's best soundtrack in my opinion. I find his music, especially in SO3 invoke a sort of nostalgia with the towns and fields, they definitely make them feel unique. Also the battles themes are simply phenomenal and there was so much variety.
Star Ocean: The Second Story is truly one of my favorite games of all time. This one wasn't quite as good, but still a solid game, and the "twist" for me, at least, was creative. Not necessarily great, but interesting enough. Nothing touches SO2, however, and I know the series has only gotten worse throughout its sequels, unfortunately. Thanks!
Honestly I did rly enjoy this game, right up until the near end of the game, where the big 'Twist' happens, or rather moment of ruin as I like to call it. I think it was a huge cop out of a good story. All this build up and fear of this unknown force only to find out it was all nothing. I much prefer any of the other Star Ocean Games, specifically The Second Story, and The Last Hope, but hey that's just me :)
There are so many little known RPGs that I need to play, but I might not have the time to play them. This series is one of them. By the way, are the games in this series traditional RPGs?
Action RPGs (the Tales games are probably the closest comparison in terms of gameplay).
This series isn't quite "little known". This game in particular was advertised very heavily on television in the U.S. if nothing else.

Fantastic game and an incredible soundtrack. Cutting Edge of Notion and The Divine Spirit of Language still get regular play on my stereo,

I really liked this game. I know a lot of people hated the story's big twist, but it personally didn't bother me at all. I loved the gameplay and the soundtrack by Sakuraba had some very solid tracks (Rust Color being a favorite of mine). I usually always choose to control the main character in an RPG (for example, the Tales games), but this is one of the very few where I didn't; I controlled Albel instead, he was pretty overpowered.
I loved this game, a lot of the dungeon themes and battle themes are some of Sakuraba's best
@Amsun Thales Played as Albel too. Not only because he was overpowered, but he is a cool looking badass.
Oh god yes. I controlled Albel too. He was stupidly strong and made Fayt look like a baby in comparison. Air Slash of Fury, Double Slash of Fury and his weak normal attack could be used indefinitely with the right setup. Add a bunch of those elemental balls and multi hit mods to his weapon? Everything's getting wrecked.

Agree 100% with your first three sentences. Always loved this game, the story, and the music, nothing bothered me at all, this game is amazing.
