A lot of people talk about DKC2's soundtrack but for me the first 1 is more interesting. I love nearly everything on it while 2 has great stuff but not as consistently. The pirate stuff is well made in context but it's comedy music you can't really listen to by itself

Listening to ingame soundtracks vs this particular soundtrack. Not all are like that and what I meant mostly was pitch being changed slightly to avoid copyright detection not actual speed. This is all personal conjecture so obviously I could be lying by accident.

@607 It has been awhile since ive heard the theme so I could be wrong. A lot of other people do the method I described so i assumed. So take my method with a grain of salt. Another factor is that often online buyable soundtracks are slightly different to their ingame counterparts. Usually to make it more melodic and easier to comprehend to encourage listening to game music outside of the game.

This melody section I swear was directly inspired by Nine Inch Nails' song Wish. Pretty sure it's nearly the exact same notes, like I can sing the lyrics on top of this song! "Wish there were something real, Wish there were something true" It's interesting. I liked this first song on an old Win95 Beastwars game and had it in my mind for years, especially the intro. Years later I heard Ozzy's Waiting For Darkness song and went omg... that was the inspiration for that Beastwars song intro...

every time i hear music from a game like DKC i feel like i am a kid again playing my way though these games. i was lucky enough to have been born in 1984 so i got to go though all of the NES, SNES, GB, N64 GBC,GBA,GC, PSX, PS2 etc. i would call from 1992 (i got my first NES for my 8th birthday) till around 2007 (the year GameCube got discontinued) was the golden age of gaming. these past 2 gens have been ok but i don't think they will ever beat the past gens in pure gaming fun. better graphics does not always= more fun game. just look at how popular all the 2D indie games are.
Just because games have better graphics, it doesn't mean they've gotten worse. Plenty of modern games are on par or just as good as the old ones.

@Dragonking1984 what you feel is called nostalgia, and is the denial of moving on, i also got the chance to enjoy every game from the NES to the current eras and i certainly still enjoy the old games, but the currtent ones are also amazing, sometimes with gameplay and stories that make the old ones feel like atari games, not all the old games has survive the pass of the years
@Carlos Morelos Suárez it's not a matter of nostalgia. there are games in the current gen that are fun to me (the elder scrolls games the fallout games the bioshock games and others.) but a big amount of the current gen games have been cash grabs, unwanted or botched sequels and outright terrible unfinished products. not to mention the mega wave of generic FPS games. all of this of course is a matter of personal taste but i would like to think no matter how old a gamer is they would recognize a good fun game from a bad one that they would want to avoid like the plague.

Don't get me wrong, there are TONS of recent gen. games that I LOVE! There's just some... charm about old games that makes them so memorable! I wish i could say I'm feeling nostalgic at this point but I'm only 15 so... not sure if that's valid. XD
Gameplay > graphics. People who keep playing most Nintendo games know that for quite a while now, I guess it only takes a little bit more time before the Xbox and PS owners are crying because their consoles are filled with generic Assassin's Creed and Call of Duty games. And there's also a market for that ofcourse. But Nintendo in it's state it is now shouldn't even have to worry about the other 2, when reality tells something else. Oh btw, if you didn't make that up from my text already, I don't agree on there not being great games lately. 3D platformers have been really scarce however. Well with project Ukelele and others in the making there is some hope on the horizon again. And Mario is bigger than ever with 3D world being widely regarded as one of the best Mario games ever created. And the Galaxy games weren't so bad either...
I completely agree with you. Back in the days of GC/PS2/DC/XB gaming was a it's finest because it was targeting any demographic, children and adults alike. But now, my main problem with modern gaming is that it feels too standardized to the point that if the game is not cinematic, mature or edgy then it is considered lame, childish or indie. For example, right now I'm looking forward to Mortal Kombat X, but the trailers are trying too hard to be action movie trailers that it kills my desire to keep watching. The reason I dislike this, is because it can end up being something really pretentious. Anyway, I still enjoy modern gaming with my favorites being thus far: Bayonetta, Batman Arkham Series, Darksiders & the Withcer.
@Isaacygnus The only recent game I can think of that did an amazing job with cinematics without seeming like a movie would be Super Smash Bros. 4. I mean... come on! Those trailers were so bad ass!
@Dragonking1984 I'd say Gamecube was a bit of a downgrade... platformers were nearly non-existent on it. And as someone who also grew up with the NES and SNES, it was a pretty disappointing system for me. But then Wii came out and brought back classic franchises with Donkey Kong Country Returns, New Super Mario Bros Wii, Wario Land Shake it, Rayman Origins, and Kirby's Return to Dreamland and I was in heaven. The Wii deserves more credit.
@Michael Peterson I do agree that the wii deserves more credit (and a name change to go with it) where i disagree however is that the gamecube was bad. a lot of people claim it was the worst nintendo console since the virtual boy. and i call bullshit. if not for the GC we would not have the Metroid prime games, super smash bros melee, that kickass resident evil 1 update, eternal darkness, legend of zelda wind waker, killer7 and other games (yes some of them where later ported to the wii like wind waker but they started out on the GC and got such a following that warranted them being ported.) The great thing about gaming is that there are enough games out there (with tons more made every year) that no one person could play them all. (not unless they were immortal and had billions to spend.)

Yes. Fuck yes! Agree 100% Born in 1985. Lucky enough to have rebought most of the old SNES games I had and a SNES at car boot sales. I love the water music on DK. Played the hell out of Super Mario World. Loved Killer Instinct. Was also lucky enough to own the Dreamcast, Saturn, PS1/2 and the Cube (split screen Phantasy Star Online :D ). Games are good now but they lack the magic of the old generations. I play casually now :(

Despite never actually being alive during the era, and never owning a SNES in my life, I absolutely love the SNES and its games. I've been playing a few through GBA, Android ports and Virtual Console and they're some of my favourites. However, I don't mind a few newer games, for example Metroid Prime and Half Life 2.
Heck i get mocked for at school for playing tekken 3, mario 64, sonic advance 3,donkey kong country gba and gbc shantae and many old games. It sad that people dont respect old games. But sometumes when im playing these old titles. Someone will recognize it and start telling me about their stories with that game...

I was born in 1995, so I'm 17 now. As you propably know this was the end of the SNES era. I got my own SNES when I was around 6 or 7, when the Nintendo Gamecube saw the light of day. I think this is really funny, because I always was VERY fascinated about the graphics and videogames in general... I remember that I never had this game, but I played it with a friend all day long, that's why I remember all these soundtracks... I'm so thankful for this time and I still love Nintendo today... ♥

I think this was one of the first video games where they sold the OST. I actually BOUGHT the CASSETTE TAPE from Nintendo Power with some money and my Power Stamps back when it was new!
I'm 20 and I played all three games when I was younger. I fucking loved all of them and they still hold up to this day. When I hear music like this, I have so much nostalgia, it hurts.
I'm only 16, and was born in 96. And in some point of my life. I grew up with an SNES. But I was pretty young, and I didn't play a lot of snes games. But that doesn't mean I still have memories of games like this! This song is very memorable, and I came here to revisit these wonderful and lost memories.

I think what happens is this : Dubstep is the first super popular mainstream electronic music, people think all electronic music is called dubstep, kinda like what happend with the electronic music genre techno. Techno is also just a genre of electronic music, but most people do not know that.

i feel like DKC has been forgotten largely, or at least neglected, but this was a truly revolutionary game in terms of graphics, which were the best at the time, and in terms of gameplay: this was a very entertaining and quite challenging game, compared to what was available at the time, and a true gem of the golden days of the SNES.

I mean, have you taken a look at some of AVGN's videos? Do you think any publisher would get away with some of the glitches, bugs, mistakes and horrible gameplay found in those pieces of shit?

This song reminds me of all the hope each generation has for their future. All the preparation people put into moving forward and "progressing." Honestly, I imagine a bunch of people walking through the city in suits, hats, and suitcases when I hear this. Specifically in 50's fashions (that was a generation that seemed to have a vision of hope...) This was indeed very fitting music for a factory level. Thank you David Wise. ^_^

@DarkestDion and I played the DKC trilogy but I still need to finish the 3rd game I beat the first one but I didn't 100% complete the first DKC because it's hard and not really worth it in the end since all you get is a different message from Cranky at the end, I beat the 2nd game 100% since DK Coins are much more straightforward and it's nice to earn the top video game hero area plus at least theres a different ending I'm up to the first Baron Von K.roolienstien fight in the 3rd game. *2bcont.

The Rare era of SNES and N64 gaming: The #1 era of classic gaming. I mean, really. Rare made the greatest video games. From DKC to Banjo-Kazooie to Conker, I was glad I was born in that era. Though not old enough to play Conkers Bad Fur Day, I was glad with the DK games they made. I still have to get my hands on both Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie...

Some say Mario rippoff, I just enjoyed the hell outta this game I started with Super Mario Bros on NES I started with Donkey Kong Country on SNES Awesome gameplay, soundtrack & levels This game made me believe that this is as good as it gets! I was proven wrong though with M64 & TLOZOOT, but that's another story... *Salutes my Snes for all the memories*

Rare was never good, until the mid to late 90s. But even then, that's a stretch. In the 80s, they were responsible for all the abominations that were made under the LJN label. Their tenure on the Donkey Kong Country series was pretty awesome, even if they largely amounted to lame collectathons. At least the level design was good. Banjo Kazooie? Another collectathon. Goldeneye and Perfect Dark... nothing bad to say about them. But Donkey Kong 64... worst of the bunch.

Damn, I remember playing DKC on my SNES when I was about 7, loved this game and DKC2 so much, and this music was my favorite! I often went into Blackout Basement just to hear it! =D Now I'm 15 and I miss my SNES a lot... :'(
It's an issue of surface coverage: if your sensitivity is good enough to turn around in a split-second, is it good enough to quickly snipe a target precisely on the opposite side of the map? With a mouse this is the difference between strong wrist movements or precise slight ones. The analogue just isn't as durable here.

It's not too bad, but when you've played shooters like TF2, HL2, CS, etc. you start to notice everything that's wrong with Halo; the game clearly isn't designed for team play and yet they obsess over all their shitty game-types, you move at absolute snail-pace, some guns are so much better than others it is actually retarded. Oh, and who wants to play a shooter with a control scheme where it takes you more than 1/8 of a second to turn around? Not me.

Each DKC game had one perfect gem that's miles above the rest of the soundtrack. For DKC1, Fear Factory is that.
I think the nostalgia is partly what makes these songs so good, but they're definitely awesome in their own right. I played DKC and DKC3 when I was little but I just played DKC2 about a year ago. The music from DKC2 left a similar "entrancing" impression as the others from many years ago =)

I thought Donkey Kong Country 2 (with Dixie and Diddy) was harder than this one. DKC 2 had all those secret levels which were so damn tough.
@Nattakorps - the GBA Sound Chip is about on par with the SNES chip actually. But music tone changes were needed of course, because no one really just wants to play a 100% direct port of a game.....except me :)

it seems they had to change the music in the GBA versions, i'm not sure why, the GBA is more powerful than the super nintendo i believe. though it may not have an SPC processor, which may be why the music is different. in any case, the GBA versions music butcher the SNES versions in horrible ways. they should have made colour versions of the Donkey Kong Land games, up the graphics to at least DKC (but no higher than 16 bitlike) and give 16 bit revamps of the DKL musics.
i remember when this game was new and i was amazed by how good the graphics were :)

yh they was 2 levels wit this music one on the land like a swamp the first one and the last one when the lights flickered on and off.

It's because Rare cut ties with Nintendo, and for some reason or another Nintendo doesn't want to make traditional Donkey Kong platformers. /shrug/

Yeah DK64 wasn't what I expected when I got it. But it was still fun. It got boring after a while though. They should make a Donkey Kong Country 4.. just like what CAPCOM did with Megaman 9.

Fuck, I hated Banjo Kazooie. I was hoping for a similar feeling that can be found in the DKC series, but no, it was purely a game for small children. I was especially dissapointed by the shitty music. It didn't sound like this at all.

Oh, the name of the game is Banjo-Kazooie, a N64 platformer by Rare. Some would consider it one of it's biggest franchises aswell. A lot of letters have been submitted to Official Nintendo Magazine(UK) asking if Banjo-Kazooie was ever going to be released on VC. I'd love to see it there also.

Lots of bad games came out for the SNES, and for every other console. The reason people get nostalgic for games like DKC is because a lot of what it was surrounded by was complete crap.

The graphics were, like, the Crysis of '94? I still remember being a kid and looking in that game magazine. "It's like TOY STORY!?!?" Hahaha those were the days.
DK is Nintendo's Charater, but the DKC and DK64 was made by RARE. There isn't a chance now, since Microsoft bought out Rare, Nintendo does want Rare to come back so they can get Goldeneye for the VC, and KI. KI was a compilition of both Rare and Nintendo.

DKC had some music I underappreciated big time. Maybe because I was throwing my controller during certain parts, like when I would shoot myself into a pit with a barrel
DKC was the first game that made me stop and realize how good the music was. Soon after, I went back and replayed my favorite older games (like Megaman 2) and that's when I realized that VG music was something special.
I just knew this would show up. Clam City's song should also a top VGM.
