+Carlos Pozo Unfortunately, IMO its over-reliance on random chance to determine critical moments (e.g. crithax, parahax, flinch hax etc) will prevent it from bridging the last gap it would need to become truly competitive. However, I do have to admit I greatly admire and respect Game Freak for what they managed to do - create a game that appeals to children, adolescents and adults alike, that withstands the test of time and without ever having to completely reinvent it (and no, I don't consider the engine changes in Gen 3 to be a reinvention). There is an astounding amount of depth beneath the cutesy surface.
+Harkz0r not to mention the thought that went into breeding and hidden stats, which basically represent the biological concepts of inheritance and mutation as well as nature vs nurture.

I am no way a genwunner, but I believe this is the best trainer battle theme out of all generations shortly followed by the Gen 6 Trainer Battle theme.
And after listening to this you should listen to "Legendary Kanto Pokemon" from Pokemon X and Y <3
At the beginning I thought Squirtle would learn bubble as soon as it defeats a Metapod(It was just a mere coincidence). Man, I haven't seen through the levelsystem at all back then

I remember I had that feeling about Link's Awakening. It really felt like magic to have a portable Zelda.

Still my favorite song from any Pokémon, which is saying something, because this series has some fantastic music!
I was 16 or so when Pokémon came out, and it was definitely one of the best games of its day. It was good on its own merits. I wouldn't go back and play the first Pokémons (Red & Blue) today, because I /do/ think it would require some nostalgia to get through (or an appreciation of that retro feel), but I also think that X and Y are great games on their own merits. Want a pitch? Novelty. The game is relentlessly novel, and really deep once you start to dig.

I remember when I got Pokemon Blue for Christmas. Probably one of the best gifts I've ever got. Squirtle was my Pokemon of choice, always. Played this thing to death.
The Pokemon Origins OVA is pretty good only 4 episodes long but is still pretty decent. During one of the fights one of Red's (the main character) Pokemon gets bite and lets out a horrifying scream and another part I actually started getting teary eyed from it being so sad which is odd b/c normally shows aren't well acted enough for me to care about anything usually. Anyway if you wanna rewatch the entire first season in under 2 hours you could give it a look.
If there ever was a time to get back into Pokémon, it would be with X and Y, glad to see Gamefreak giving some attention to the old school fans.
The originals definitely had a different feel than the sequels, as the glitches were accessible yet mysterious, and definitely part of the fun. X and Y make a bunch of references to the series's roots, as tons of Kanto pokemon show up in Kalos, the first forest's layout is exactly like the Viridian Forest (and Pikachu is there too), and you get to choose a Kanto starter in addition to your Kalos starter. I think they are good games for old fans who want to get back into the series.

Objection! It's one of the best games, because you can make a team of any generation, if you like the first generation you can even pick a starter of Kanto, and they even make a remake of Wild Battle Theme from Red, it plays when you encounter Zapdos, Moltres, Articuno and Mew. It's a great game, even if you like the older generations or the new ones.

I had great memories of Blue and Red back in school. People would talk strategy and myth (hold up and B to have a better chance of catching Pokeymans!! haha) and play and battle during lunch and recess. Good times. Pokemon was my go to game during the Red/Blue and Silver/Gold era.
Don't be ashamed dude, Razor leaf is still awesome to this day.

X&Y isn't good. Its the best. No really, even tho the pokemon design is rather mediocre compared to earlier versions, the installment offers so much new things its astounding :O
Pokemon sure is nostalgic. Being in games, anime or just cards, it influenced our childhood no matter where we lived in this world. Such a simple designe, yet such a strong concept.

I remember when this came out. One of my friends played it all night and was passing out the next day. We all owned it and traded pokemon, and it was a big thing to be one of the first people to have all 150 pokemon. I still have the Nintendo Power poster on my wall for Pokémon, says "Coming Soon to Game Boy from Nintendo" ^_^
Surprisingly, no. My cousin's game was erased shortly after he began using missingno., by coincidence or actual cause who knows, so I never toyed with it much out of shear fear. Running through the Elite 4 levels your Pokemon up effectively, especially when they can solo the whole thing, but it does take time.
Heavy nostalgia for me too. And Razor Leaf was so good.

Let me tell you I completely disagree with your ranking (of course, I'm not saying your ranking is bad or something, just different from how I'd rank these games) but I love the music you're putting in your ranks (and the games). I'm expecting nice surprises in the remaining positions.
I've actually never been that fond of this trainer theme and the wild Pokemon theme from Gen 1. But the gym leader theme? And the champion theme? They're 10/10 songs.
Still a hardcore Pokemon fan, and yes, X & Y are fantastic! I got X, and I think I can say that it has replaced Platinum as my favorite Pokemon game. Also, don't be ashamed of your secret. Or, do be, but rest assured that others did things like that also. I used to dance along to the theme of Mirror B. from Pokemon Colosseum and XD: Gale of Darkness. Ehehe.
I remember playing Blue and Yellow growing up. I especially remember playing it at night with the Wormlight attachment. Ahh, childhood memories. Honestly, I'm excited by X and Y, but i really have not seriously played a pokemon game since Ruby. I also love the music by Masuda, it brings back such incredible memories listening to it 15 years later. It gives me chills whenever i listen to Pallet Town for an extended period of time.

Lol, great story. I've been playing Soul Silver very sporadically during relaxation periods, so I really haven't gone anywhere progress wise in that game. But looking back on my original copy of Red, I don't know where I found the time to get thirty-four max level Pokemon. I must have played the game to absolute death.
I'll admit, this one actually caught me off guard. All the others were pretty easy to figure but you haven't quite seemed the Pokemon type...but then again it was Gen 1. If you were around then, it was mandatory you played and loved it, or all the kids at the playground would shun you until Pokemon stopped being the juggernaut it was.
This is the best fight theme ever. I used that in one of my RPG sessions! BTW Thanks SupraDarky this is one of my favorite channels on youtube, my rpg group thank you as well!!!
Whoa, never expected this game! I was a complete Pokemon Fanboy as well when I was a 10 year old... I remember trying to make a Pokemon Comic like the Pokemon Adventures series. Then I gave up and drew a comic about Kirby that was 100/200 pages long because he was easier to draw.
Oh and a shameful secret? I played this game on the Super GameBoy quite a lot, and I still remember how I'd use my Bulbasaur (Venusaur) in battle, stand up and flail my arms in sync with the Razor Leaf animation. What...? Razor Leaf was awesome.
Oh hey, this video only took 3 hours to process! Pokémon pretty much consumed my life for at least 2 years. Mainly this game, but also the Pokémon cards and anime. I was the absolute fanboy back then, I knew everything about its universe (I could name the 151 pokémons, of course). Listening to music like this brings some heavy nostalgia.
