The last level and boss run in this game capped off an absolutely fantastic game experiences, considering I bought the game because I was bored on a Saturday and all my friends were either working or busy.
I remember when this game first came out on gamecube and everyone i knew who played it said it was awesome. So about 6 months ago i decided to buy the game online and play it on my nintendo wii since i dont have a gamecube. All i can say is that this game is my second favorite mario game of all time next to super mario 64. The whole storyline was epic and the gameplay was awesome, too.
I got a great story to tell! So I was replaying this game for the millionth time and I got to Shadow Queen. She has enough health left where I can kill her in one Super Bounce. All my partners are dead. I have one health. And I beat her. Probably the most intense action I've ever had to make in an RPG. This is probably my favorite game of all time. I'm in the middle of the first one and it is also a ton of fun. Let's hope the next game in the series is as good as this one.
I had a similar experience with Bonetail. It's one of those gaming moments that you remember for the rest of your life!
@Epic563 For me it's tied with Pokemon Mystery Dungeon:2 as my favorite game of all time. Also, Super Paper Mario, for what it slightly lacks in gameplay (which is still awesome to begin with) it makes up in spades with it's story.

If you can't beat the final form you have to go through a very long cutscene over and over, which makes the fight a lot more stressfull.
I know right? I've leveled up more but that still isn't enough to beat her. I still can't beat her after all this time.

I love this game to death, it was such a disappointment finding out that Sticker Star is mediocre. I wish they went back to their routes with the badges, partners, and turned based combat like the N64 one and TTYD.

No, the original is my favorite game of all time, but I still love this one almost as much. It improved upon a lot which spiced things up
One thing is for sure: the story in TTYD is definitely superior to the original. I liked the characters in TTYD way more than in the original Paper Mario.
Anybody like the original better than TTYD? Maybe this is the wrong place to be asking it...

I think the main reason is that the game is not an RPG like the first two. But I thought it was very well done,the gameplay was good and the story was surprsingly deep for a Mario game. I mean,it was different,but it went all the way with it, it was a pretty complete game,unlike Sticker Star,which was a dumbed down version of the first two. I was really pissed when Nintendo ruined the opportunity for a awesome new RPG Paper Mario for a console,and then still made Mario & Luigi 4 for the 3DS.
I absolutely adore this game,and this theme is great. I still remember how the entire game was easy,but then the Shadow Queen just kicked my ass a bunch of times. I had to go back and level up on the Pit of a 100 Trials. Also,I still remember how I was a little scared of this,I played as a kid,and thought it was pretty dark for a Mario game. A demon possessing Peach,all those black fire candles and shit,and this intense music? Geez.
This is quite possibly my most favorite game of all time, and this music got me so PUMPED.

Excellent choice, I absolutely love this game. If it wasn't for the backtracking in certain parts I would love this game even more. Definitely in my top 5 games of all time.
The one of the main reasons so many people dislike Super Paper Mario is because this game was such a masterpiece.

Less backtracking and a bit harder boss battles and I really don't have anything to complain about this game. Mario & Luigi: Dream Team is pretty awesome though and gives TTYD a run for it's money.

Is it just me or does this track have a distinctly darker sound than what one would normally expect from a Mario game? I know that the Paper Mario series has had its fair share of sinister and intensely grim music but, I have to say that this is probably my favorite track out of all of them.
I probably spent 80% of my time back then playing PS2 games, my favorite console of its generation, but with a list like this one where it's about amazing (not just great) games, the couple diamonds on the GC definitely earn some spots in my Top 30. The PS2 would probably have tons of games in my Top 100.
A lot of people really love this track and I never understood why. It's pretty alright, definitely not bad, but as far as Paper Mario goes, my heart belongs to Flipside.
It's interesting to me that the Gamecube is getting a lot of representation in this top 30 list of yours. This is the third game already, and I'm betting that Metroid Prime will appear at some point as well. The GC is generally regarded as one of the weaker among major consoles. I was expecting plenty of SNES-N64, but not that much GC. Not that I'm complaining; I like the GC.

The 1st Paper Mario was amazing. Final Boss music there was phenomenal. Thousand Year Door was a proper sequel and only improved on 1st game. And it held up and the Shadow Queen boss did not disappoint, music and all. =)
I've only played Super Paper Mario in this series... I've gotta find this game one day.

I love this Paper Mario game. They really have to go back to this style of Paper Mario for the next one if they decide to. Every chapter was just so different and fun. I'm looking at it right now and it makes me want to replay it. Such a backlog though...

A little less backtracking and a stronger start and this would easily be not only my favorite Mario game, but one of my Top 10 hands down. Wish they'd do another similar to this one.

Oh gah the Shadow Queen...this boss fight was brutal when my first few times through the game. Awesome final boss, but good grief some of her attacks were ridiculous.
Ahhh yeah. Good memories. Wish Nintendo did more stuff like this with their big franchises.

Another excellent choice. Great memories of my friends and I relating to each other every day what we accomplished in this game. Glitzville is also a personal favorite chapter; what an interesting scenario to put Mario in. Need more of this originality.

I like how Nintendo went with the main composers from its 2 strategy games: Yoshito Hirano (Advance Wars) and Yuka Tsujiyoko (Fire Emblem). I actually discovered that yesterday when listening to this track, it hit me how similar to some darker Advance Wars themes it sounds. It's definitely Hirano's work! I remember having a super hard time with the Shadow Queen.
My favorite Mario RPG, this game is close to perfect in my book. With all its chapters, the game offers extremely varied gameplay, audiovisual design and atmosphere. Rogueport and its underground is also an awesome main hub. I also really like the challenge in this game (damn you, Pit of 100 Trials!). My favorite chapters were Glitzville's arena and the train, but I loved most of them (Twilight Town, Moon, Pirates, etc.).
