This might just be my favorite VG setting ever created and seen in the eyes of the public, maybe even more than New Porky City, and that's saying some shit there.
Absolutely unforgettable, unlike Infinite.
First game where when the intro ends you still think you're watching a cinematic then after a minute you're like "Wait, I'm in-game now ??"
A city where the artist would not fear the censor. Where the scientist would not be bound by petty morality. Where the great would not be constrained by the small!

They tried to change it in BSI by giving you only 2 weapons at a time, which adds realism, but I'm not a fan of. Still, if they removed plasmids (or vigors, whatever), people would rage a lot. I prefer they take a safer route with the combat mechanic (and adapt the surrounding world instead), than mess the entire gameplay structure for the sake of novelty. But I get what you mean, it would be fun to expand a bit the gameplay. I'm sure Levine and his team would do a great job. :-)
Oh absolutely, it's tha fact that it hasn't really changed or evolved over all three games that I find dissapointing. That doesn't mean it isn't 1000x better than your average mms :P
It's still infinitely (pun!) better than modern war shooters, which give you about 12 different machine guns and they ALL shoot the same. The various combinations of weapons + plasmids (8*8) gives so much more depths to the gameplay than most of other shooters out there. I'm astoundished that you found the gameplay clumsy or boring. Having more than 5 ways to approach an enemy is so much funnier than simply charging and shooting. The only bad point IMO is the lack of difficulty...
The plane crash is one of my fav cinematic videogame scenes. So good. I wasn't sure if it was FMV at first.
Thats THE bad point of the series for sure, the actual combat gameplay hasn't really changed through the entire series. The music, stories and design are definantly the main draws :)
I'm one of those odd people who've never played through either Bioshock 1 or 2 (although number 2 was given to me by a friend). I've certainly tried, but found the gameplay being "clumsy", in lack of a better word. I managed to plough through Infinite. I found the story to be great, but other than that... meh :S But I've always admired the music in these games!
So SupraDarky is this a countdown of VGM from your favourite GAMES or is it a countdown of your favourite VGM? I'm thinking it's the former but thought I'd clarify :).

It's beautiful :3 And yet so tragic at the same time. Have you read the novel "Rapture" Supra? It provides a lot of very cool and interesting backstory to Ryan and the founding of Rapture ^^

Very good. experiencing the setting first hand is unforgettable, and it's always nice playing the first in the series. Graphics and combat are top notch, my absolute favorite game in the series.
Why is it games that have soundtracks filled with songs done before, the non licensed music is always really good?
Weird, I've played 2 and Infinite, but never this one. I know the story(internet spoils everything)but I have yet to experience it myself, and have done a good job of forgetting a number of the crucial details. How's it hold compared to the others?
Also, this game still holds my spot for the best introduction to a game. From the plane crash to the ride into Rapture, panning over the destruction and the voice over from Ryan, it puts you in the mood you need to be in to fully appreciate the game and makes you feel like you are in that world, helpless and afraid of the unknown in front of you.
God, this song brings back so many memories. While I liked the story in Infinite, I thought the gameplay was pretty bad compared to this one and I wish they hadn't cut so much.
FYI to any PC peeps, Bioshock 2 just got GFWL removed and any current versions (including retail disks activated on Steam at least for now) will have Minerva's Den added for free. Also I love this song, shame it's so short.

agreed. the original bioshock is better than infinite.

Mixed with the amazingly appropriate 1930s music, you can feel how life must have been on Rapture before the tragic events. Bioshock 2 was also very good, but the novelty aspect was mostly gone, while I found Bioshock Infinite great but lacking in terms of complex level design.
Rapture is my favorite fictional setting in a video game ever. The intro where you're diving down to discover the underwater city for the first time while this music plays is something I'll always remember. I bought my 360 with this game too, so I was also in awe of the graphics (which, 6 years later, still look awesome). Not just the graphics on a technical level, but also (and mainly) on an artistic level.
