I got Super Mario All-Stars & Super Mario World in a bundle with the SNES when I was still very young. It was also my first videogame, so I wasn't any good at the games. But despite this, or maybe _because_ of this, I have very strong memories for this title theme (and also the other title themes such as the one for SMB 3), because I'd watch the title screen demo animation a lot and gaze admiringly at how the game was supposed to be played. So many powerful memories come rushing back while listening to this tune, after all these years. Thanks for uploading. : )
still the greatest mario game. Its not the popular choice (SMB3 for 2d, M64 for 3d), but it is. Ill here an argument for the genius that is SMB, but SMW...easily the best.

I'm 16 so I played the NSMB games at the same age you probably played SMW, so when I go and play SMW I can't get past World 2 without struggling, and it's probably the same for you trying to play through NSMB games. I guess it's what games you grow up with. :)
Quite simply, one of the best games ever made, in the top 5 for sure. A timeless classic.
Did you even try any of the secret levels you unlock when you beat the 8 regular worlds? They're present in almost every new Mario game that's been released and they're challenging as FUCK. Also SMW was not that difficult to begin with.
I've beaten NSMB for the NDS and the one for the Wii. They are both easy, but I had problems in the last 2-3 levels in the Wii version. And no, I'm not inexperienced. NSMB games don't come near SMW or SMB3, but I still find them fun. Mediocre, but still fun to play, especially the Wii version in multiplayer.
Have you ever played the New Super Mario Bros games? There's about 4 Powerups, and about 200 coins in every level, a 4 year old can finish the game in a day XD

SMW is much harder than the New Super Mario Bros series though
Except that SMW was REALLY easy. Not to mention you could even get a cape and fly over almost every level. SMB3 is more challenging than SMW definitely.
Or just don't use their "bonuses"

I remember when I first got my Super Famicom (I was in Japan at the time) - my eyes fell out of my head. This was such a huge leap over what I had been playing before. However, in all honesty - SMB3 barely gets by this one - simply because of the zany worlds.
Well, Nintendo didn't make that same mistake with New Super Luigi U.
Also, have you had a chance to check Project X Zone (Or its OST) out yet? It has some really great music (particularly Ai wa Tsuienai) and I thought the game was presented really well, for being the humongous crossover that it is.
Only now it has become this easy, it had a perfect difficulty Level back then. But i have to agree, if you go back and play it again, you can beat the "Story" easily in one evening without any shortcuts.
But Super Mario World was unbelieveble easy o.O I hope they won't make the 2D-Marios as easy as Super Mario World...
XFD I'm currently replaying this game, and just last Saturday I beat the levels "Tubular", "Way Cool", and "Awesome" for the first time ever. It took me 2 hours and 15 minutes to beat all three of those levels. But yeah, not at all hard for me to see why this game is so highly regarded.
This is the first game I ever played. It's also quite possibly the best. It's certainly in my top 5.
I'll always remember that detailed perspective on the game SD gave on BVGM#1171: "This game is pretty good." I think that was the first time he trolled his subscribers...
this one is kinda easy though... especially when you compare it with the original nes mario trilogy.

Oh man. The feels I feel when hearing this theme. I remember hearing this and being so hyped for an hour of fun and adventure. I remember playing this game with my mum. I remember walking across the world, exploring and replaying levels just for the hell of it. I remember the holes my fantasy filled in, you know, the little stories kids make up, about secrets, and special techniques, about power ups that might or might not exist. About the meaning of life hidden just behind the goal post. <3

This is the first console game I ever owned.
My sister had an NES, but come Christmas of 1994, I'd get my first console, the SNES with this game and Super Mario All Stars. Totally agree with you on the exits! I didn't find Soda Lake until ten years later when I learned of the exit.
This game is amazing! Not sure what I like more, this or Super Mario Bros 3.
This game aged perfectly, the graphic is timeless and gameplay still top notch. And i don`t know why, but the overworld feels way better in this game than in any other Mario title including the ones on Wii/3DS/WiiU.
The first SNES game I ever played, and what a game it was! A true classic, it's also one of my favorite 2D platformers of all time. I find Super Mario World perfectly challenging and I love how there are tons of secret paths/short cuts. I just feel like smiling the whole time I'm playing it, especially with Kondo's charming soundtrack. Dinosaur Land is still my favorite Mario map, I wish we'd see a return of the dinosaurs in new Mario games!
