Such an underrated soundtrack. So many great soundscapes, ambient textures and unusual, exotic melodies, which really is a feat to pull off on a SNES.
Not a lot of games can pull that off, even today. Recently though, I was amazed at the ambient sounds in the 2nd gameplay demo of MGS Ground Zeroes. /watch?v=EOLRfnC84fQ (around 02:50, for instance) It takes place on a naval base in Cuba. You can hear both seagulls and some kind of "South American jungle" sound, it's very well done, very accurate (not to mention the wind blowing on the tents and other details).
This game has one of the best soundtracks I've ever heard. Made the game so much better.
Wow, this score really gets under your skin and starts crawling around. Creepy and eerie yet so beautiful and tranquil. Masterful.

I think SoM did get released in the US, but its sequel didn't. SoE had "Secret of" added to its name to ride on the popularity of SoM a bit.
Yeah, and the japanese did Secret of Mana. Both were great games. I'm glad to be an European, because back in the days, when Nintendo and Sega were the two top console-companies, we got both games, while Americans just got SoE and Japanese just got SoM.

I'm a bit surprised this game made your list. I've enjoyed the tracks you've uploaded from this game but didn't think it would end up on your Top 30. Mainly because this game is always overshadowed by Secret of Mana (which I'm expecting will be in your to 10 if your past posts are anything to go by)

I'm not a huge fan of this game; the difficulty is pretty uneven and requires a substantial amount of grinding, unless you abuse the atlas glitch. That said, this game did have unique atmosphere, and a unique premise, rather than the generic "save the world" affair.
What an incredibly underrated game. Easily one of my favorites on the SNES, but completely overlooked. <3

Wow, thanks Supra. Way way way back when web-pages were young, this song played over a the home page of a website I visited, and it was a personal favorite. I never knew what it was or where from, but I'm glad I do now.
Love this game. Still kinda wish we got Seiken Densetsu 3 along with it. Though I'm not a fan on how Square took direction of the Mana Series. SoE 2 would of been a game I'd like to see but I feel this game is going to get lost in time and history.

Jeremy Soule is the freaking man. It is so amazing that the guy did Morrowind-Skyrim, Guild Wars, and Secret of Evermore and they all sound so different. This guy can make fantastic music no matter what format it is.
This game was like a darker, more atmospheric Secret of Mana. Which game do you prefer?
About half the game is enhanced by his music, and the other half is enhanced by his choice of having NO music at the right moments, just ambient sounds. I find that masterful. Listen to something like "Ambience - Swamplands" from this game on YouTube. It really captures the imagination while you're running around with your dog, you almost feel constantly threatened by what you can't even see. Not a lot of games back then could pull that off.
After recently replaying this game, I realized I not only really liked SoE, but it's also one of my favorites. Not a lot games can manage to make me feel like I'm being transported into another world (a feeling I got while playing the Oculus Rift), but this game absolutely does. The #1 thing that sets this game apart for me is its atmosphere, and it wouldn't have been the same without 19 year old Jeremy Soule's contribution.
