One of my favorite styles of music: Sega Genesis Funk.
I really hated Spelunky but the PS3 version of Spelunker was incredible. The 8-player co-op was the most fun I've had in yonks :).

One of my favorite video game songs of the modern era.
I remember playing the original Spelunky a loooong time ago, and so when this first came out on XBLA, I invited a friend over and we played co-op for hours. One of my favorite gaming experiences!
This is an interesting track. It sounds like they were kinda striving for a 16-bit sound, which you don't often see in current games. You mostly see people going for an 8-bit sound, as it's the "most retro" I suppose.
It's got that Genesis vibe to it.
The composer said the music was supposed to have that vibe to mirror how the game has HD graphics but still uses tiles like a 16-bit game.
Sounds like the same bass synth used in Genesis games

Iunno, the way I see it, it's not a typical Roguelike RPG, but it has the core Roguelike element of permadeath.
What about this game doesn't make it a roguelike?
Well yeah, it's not a pure roguelike but you know what I mean! Roguelite, I guess.
I loved playing this game. It is frustratingly hard, but that makes the achievements that much rewarding.
Out of all the areas, I like the ice cave's songs the most.

I'm not a big roguelike fan, but there are some exceptions like Spelunky which I played extensively on the Xbox 360 (Binding of Isaac is another roguelike I love). Extremely addictive. Not many games know how to be pleasantly hard and challenging, but this is certainly the case with Spelunky. The music's available on Suhrke's bandcamp, but he unfortunately only uploaded 1 loop for each track, making for a lot of <1 minute tracks. I looped this once.
