IMO i think that palmtree panic bad future jp/eu was the best in the game and that's why I don't bother with the generators /sstages
@nintendonick This game did not suck IMO. It is a great game, but it has it's flaws.

This was one of the few games from my childhood that I beat the first day I got it. Nice game, but oh so short. And those special stages had such terrible frames per second, the remakes are so smooth compared to the original.

It's really different from the other Sonic games from it's era. If you try to just blow though each stage as in the other games, it is really short and disappointing. To get the most out of it, you really have to be playing for the good ending (finding and destroying all the robot generators in the past version of each stage).
I agree, but I find it bizarre that Sega couldn't change the music in their own game!
I'm pretty sure that this game and Sonic 2 were in development around the same time, but Sonic 2 came out first

I had this game for PC and you could put the disc in a CD player to listen to the soundtrack. So awesome :)

I'm split on the soundtracks. Some of the US tracks were good, some even better than the JP/EU version (Metallic Madness Bad Future for example. The JP version had some weird engrishy psuedo-rap into it, while the US version fit the zone better, making the place feel like a high-tech area gone to hell), some are fairly even, like Stardust Speedway Bad Future, and some where the JP versions are better. It makes me kind of sad that you can't chose to mix and match the tracks in the latest version.

That was actually an option for the 2011 remake, which was also on PC, PS3, Xbox 360, and such. Nifty little addition, if you ask me.
The original is also on Android. I don't know about iOs though.

The iPad version lets you choose your soundtrack. It is pretty cool.
For some reason, the soundtrack we got in North America was different but I mostly prefer Japan/Europe's version. Amy Rose and Metal Sonic made their debut in this game. There's a remake available on XBLA and PSN which seems to be very good, I'll have to check it out!
