Reminds me of Secret of Mana.
The characters look just like Xenoblade characters. The hero looks like Shulk a bit, the girl with horns looks like Melia, the blonde girl looks like Fiora, and there are Sharla and Riki lookalikes are in the corner. I guess there are similarities to Reyn with the armoured guy, and the hairy guy could look a little like Dunban, at a push....
Really dig your fighting game compilations, and you like Radiant Historia, very cool.
I think I haven't reached this part yet, just reached the beginning of chapter 2! The time travel aspect is a lot more rewarding and a lot more special than you'd imagine. Litteraly every choice you make has consequences. (which seems to be a theme with my ds games this year =D)
Just finished the game myself, it has a really nice story and fighting style. At some Points it sure was hard to figure out what to do but it did feel rewarding afterwards.

Notice that I put Symphony of the Night (1997) and Mega Man X (1993) in there. This is a list of games I played in 2012. It doesn't really matter when they were made, more that I played them for the first time this year.

This game made my #1 on my personal games of 2012. It was competing with the likes of Symphony of the Night, Mega Man X, Shadow of the Colossus, Ratchet and Clank, and Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance so that really shows how much I love the game. This is the greatest RPG on the DS. I'm thankful to Atlus for the reprint. This song is one of my favourites in the game. It makes me think of Super Mario RPG, and Mario and Luigi, other works Shimomura composed music for as Supra said.
Traps? Don't get me started on those 'unmoveable' bosses... Or those covering the whole screen... #AhtAndGafkaForever

The time travel mechanic is very interesting, but it can be hard to know which node you have to go back to to advance the story or complete a sidequest. The story itself is very good, but the different timelines can make it feel pretty convoluted. I also thought there was way too much backtracking through the same old areas (Gran Plain...). Overall, a very solid/memorable portable RPG with some unfortunate problems that keeps it, in my book, from being amazing.
However, I also thought there were some flaws. Aht and her traps? Completely overpowered and pretty much breaks the game. Once you're used to having her in your party, any battle without her feels like a chore. You're also stuck with the same 2 companions for half of the game. There are also some weird difficulty spikes against certain bosses where they can just destroy you in a couple rounds if you're not using the one and only strategy that can counter them, requiring specific party members.
playing it now, and aht not having any pushing attacks makes the battles a lot longer lol
I thought I'd upload another track from this game now that I've finished it and while it's still fresh in my mind. It's my favorite original RPG on the DS, unless you count Okamiden and the Castlavanias as RPGs. This track is classic Shimomura, it even reminds me of some her early work on SMRPG. The mature/political story was refreshing and gave me Suikoden vibes, the hero is actually likable, the music is top notch (though it could have used more varied themes) and the battle system is unique.
