On the contrary, I think the price is very fitting. You would pay more for a ticket to a film at your local cinema (Australian cinema's). For a 90 minutes replayable breathtaking experience, the price is actually very modest.
I was blown away to find out the narration is mostly random, meaning no one gets the full story, and everyone's play-through is unique.
I got the game for free thanks to a friend, so I'll see.
Not when you live in a shit environment, this game was like a pleasant experience in someone else's lucid dream. Also the map work in this is a masterpiece.

The soundtrack isn't quite as good, though.
THE GRAPHICS when it started i was waiting for the "looking at the sea boring cutscene" to finish... until i realised it was the actual game already... i moved the camera and i JIZZED IN MA PANTS yo... and all of it ran perfectly in my mid range PC... glorious masterpiece this is, gotta love the Source engine

You could spend $10 and see an awful movie.
Something inside me does feel that "10$ for 90 minutes is too much" that you describe there, but then I start wondering, how come we are willing to pay as much and sometimes more for a 90 minute movie at the theater but not for a well crafted game that lasts a few hours? Are movies worth more $ per Minute?
Loved this game. It didn't need an exact purpose. It was the elements it had together that made it memorable for me. A big thing for me when interested in a game is the environment. To walk around and experience a world you will never experience in our real world satisfies my curiosity and love for exploration. It was worth the price for me, especially because I only paid about $2 or so for it at the time.
Can't wait for Walking Simulator 2013.
But you can't have someone follow you and play a piano, a string quartet, and a vocal quintet while you walk. ...oh wait I totally can and do every single day. Carry on.
Hummm i don't see why games with extremely limited/nonexistant "gameplay" are any problem as long as they are marketed correctly and any description of the game actually informs the player of what to expect.
I have seen playthroughs on this game and I still want to play it. It's not so much a game as it is an experience. Also, from what I have seen, it can be fun looking for the strange things that can appear on the island.
I hate the game but I'll listen to it's music all day long.

I live in Scotland so it's a bus and I could be walking all day and night in realistic conditions. Hella overpriced but I'm sure for someone who would never be able to experience this then it might actually be interesting and take you to a different world as games should do.
Used this in a short film. Probably one of the best games ever made in my opinion. Only play it if you're looking for a dramatic and contemplative experience. Go into it with a clear head, don't be too critical too quickly. The last half hour of gameplay really pays off.
Put Dear Esther on your wishlist and have Steam notify you when it goes on sale. Easy! Its an "experience", which is the word that always pops up. It may not be a game, but you should still "play" it.
You could also get a memorable experience walking around for free, but hey.
At $10 it is overpriced, but at $2.50 during a Steam sale it is a steal. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a unique experience ;D
