Just finished this game, it was amazing! I also was a little (just a little) sad that there was no major divergence from the history that came from your choices. I read somewhere that the developers meant to do this as a way of saying that your choices matter because they shape who you are but when faced with the gigantic event of the zombie apocalypse there's really nothing you can do, the dead win.
After all that, they just had to pile this song on top of everything. How was I not supposed to cry, damn it!?

You weren't supposed to know that your decisions actually don't matter that much. Simple as that. So it's kind of your fault if you looked into the game mechanics before playing or read reviews etc.
I played this game with all the honesty I could put into it... I sincerely feared for Clementine's life and I schemed over alliance with other characters, I wondered who was trustworthy and who wasn't. I honestly felt every single emotion, the shock when characters died, the sadness over Duck's fate and the boy in the attic, anger against Larry... This game is wonderful and this song is great. Good choice.
My god this game was just pure brilliance...this game was for me the first time I could see myself in the characters and feel with them. I cried at the end sooo much..and I NEVER cried in a game before.
last yeat we got Assasins creed, halo 4, mass effect 3, and none of this games are even close to the greatness of this game. Just one of the best I've ever played
Telltale did the smart thing though and didn't waste their time making all these branching paths because they knew they couldn't do it because its expensive and would probably weaken the narrative . I'd much rather have well written games like TWD or Planescape: Torment where the plot is linear, but your interactions with the people around you affect the tone of the game. It's far more meaningful that way I think, instead of feeling gamey.

Also, just because you saved Ben didn't mean he had to die later. A diverging narrative means a multiplier on the content that has to be made until paths converge again, but since Ben's first potential death doesn't occur until the end of episode 4, it would have been very easy to write more content for episode 5 for him living (I mean, it's the end of the game, after all).
The problem with a diverging narrative is that people will value one narrative over the other and will thus base their decisions on what needs to be made in order to take that narrative path (See: Mass Effect). Most people don't roleplay in these games, even those it's intended. They play the systems within the game to get whatever is "best" or most desirable to them. When all you have is characters reacting to you and no way to know potential outcomes, you answer honestly.
Journey's got to be #1 anyway. Go play it!

I haven't played this game, but I do like this song, but I do have to say (and I'll probably get yelled at for this), but song as a bit of a steampunk feel to it.
I don't see how a lack of diverging gameplay changes anything about the honesty of my answers. Knowing that my decisions actually could have a drastic effect on the story would make each of them matter that much more and I'd be sure to do exactly what I'd do in a real life situation. It also took some of the surprises away, for example when you have the choice to save Ben or not, I knew that saving him meant that he'd die later on, that he was doomed. But hey, this is still my #2 GOTY, loved it.
On your list of PS3 must own titles Journey Collection(comes with Flower, Journey, and Flow all in one for $30 new so versus buying in PSN individually for a total of $40-50 can't remember which)
The point isn't to have them diverge as far as your journey goes. The point is to have you reflect on the immediate reactions of those around you when you express your moral beliefs. The lack of diverging gameplay means you answer honestly. It's the whole point.
Like the song but not sure it belongs in the list. Pretty sure they just licensed the song for the game, not had it commissioned.

I would recommend it. It's absolutely stunning.

I haven't played Journey yet, I only got a PS3 a couple weeks ago.

Still, there is room for improvement for the sequel in terms of gameplay and I'm sure they can find a way to make your choices actually have a major impact on the story. It's an awesome journey, but it still feels like the different paths all end up leading to the same destination.
I already posted most of my thoughts on this awesome game. Easily the best story and characters this year. I gave credit to Lee and Clementine, but Kenny (in the picture) was also very well developed. I'm glad this vocal track is good because I'm not sure what other tracks I'd have picked as they're very ambient, with Alive Inside being the most memorable one.
