The music is great but the game is boring as hell. Played it for 7 hours and it still didn't really start. I think I'm going to try once more if I have more time on my hands.

I swear in the second half of the game this plays in EVERY SINGLE CUTSCENE! And I love it.

Don't brush off criticism like that. The game has a lot of serious flaws. In my own opinion only the music and gameplay were redeeming factors. I really only say the gameplay was good because of the strive to try something interesting and different for every dungeon. The writing and character development were comparable to the most cliche anime you can possibly imagine.

Couldn't agree more, be you dude or dudette. Just imagine if people took nowadays awesome graphics, including fancy looking, badass cutscenes, with plotlines like Chrono Trigger, Breath of Fire IV, or even simple, still extremely entertaining games like Tomba 2! The Evil Swine Return. I think there is a little problem also with "innovation, creativity and originality" and "entertainment, fun and replay factor". That pretty much sums up it all in the character limit of youtube comments.

There's a nice article at Kotaku about gameplay and "story" in comparison to music and lyrics that everyone who's interested in this pointless debate should read. Addressing to this particular comment, I'd like you to watch "Narrative Mechanics" by Extra Credits [that'd be like 7 minutes of your precious time learning something new] on how games can express narrative through play. Also, people, please quit talking about "graphics", but "aesthetics" instead.

Such an underrated game. A game that is more appreciated as time goes by. When I first played it I was thinking meh graphics meh combat, but the music was always TOP NOTCH. Now when I reminisce on the title I just remember the sad story, beautiful landscapes, and most of all the music

Already bought it 1 day ago. XD Fragile dreams is flying right now I bet. Loneliness is a flash game with all gameplay and no narration in itself. Try it out. You'll notice something. :) If Fragiel Dreams destroyed you... Try Nier. :P Nothing is beating Nier's story, WITH all 4 endings you'll cry just after the first one, second one will utterly DESTROY YOU, just ask Supradarky. :P

Try out Fragile Dreams if you want some sadness... I don't doubt that the game you are recommending is great. But Fragile Dreams literally DESTROYED me in terms of emotions due to how depressing and sad it could get... If you have a wii, BUY IT!!! Seriously... it may be one of the best games of all time that I will never play again... The sadness will be just to damn great.

You're too narrow minded of what a game can be. There's games without story, there's games with only story. And then we have the mix of the bag everywhere on the spectrum. Check out Mazlow's Game Design document and you'll see.

The game is about interactivity. The Amount is not important. Games are for a simulation, to express(either itself or the player) into some experience.

There is no problem with gameplay being fun. But it being more important than story is a foolish thing. Just look at Nier, the story is so damn amazing that no matter what it's a great story and being in a video game and actually enhanced by the medium proves the foolish notion of Gameplay being more important than story completely wrong. There is nothing wrong with gameplay when it can enhance the story, not the other way around. Gameplay only games I find to be trite and not worthy of my time

Story is far more important than both of those. History is going to show you that. Along with what has happened before. Before novels there were historical documents. Before movies, there was youtube levels of poop from aging scientists who made film for the first time. With music it was just banging a rock on the ground, now it is orchastra that tell grand stories through music. Say what you want. Story is infinitely more important than either gameplay or graphics. Gameplay is fun though no pwt

Are you also going to post the battle version of Emil? I think it's called Emil - Karma. And I think I like it more. The only reason I know about the music from this game is because of thedarkid's Let's Play of it. TOKYO BOAR DRIFT.

Fun game. Great music. Grimoire Weiss ruled. The first time I drifted on a boar I laughed my butt off. All in all a really underrated game. More people should play it.

What? Story is more important than level design and gameplay combined? IT'S A GAME. You know, as in something you PLAY, not watch. I feel like story is pointless in games unless it's improved by the gameplay, like Silent Hill or Heavy Rain. Something like Uncharted might as well just be a movie.

Well. I see nothing wrong with cutscene work. I mean. I would much rather have about 10 MGS4's than a Call of Duty each year. Just depends on how well made they are is all. But it isn't cutscene work that blinds them. It is graphics in general. Just look at any positive score for RAGE and you can easily see the bias towards SHINY GRAPHICS!!! Gameplay is fine... however I don't see how well things can improve in that area until VR. Story I find is more important than either of those combined.

Gamerankings compiles a lot of reviews from all over the internet making it somewhat accurate. For this game though I saw one review give it a 9 out of 10 and another one give it a 4 out of 10. It makes it kind of confusing. I agree though, ever since Mass Effect came out developers have been more focused on fancy cutscenes than gameplay and level design.

Remember. Reviewers nowadays are pretty much raised to be bought out by fancy graphics instead of actual quality anymore... Never trust them. Never. Play some Fragile Dreams on the wii... trust me when I say, with how freaking sad that game is... you will most likely become depressed. I am not joking.

Glad to hear you finally finished it. Best OST of the year. Best Narrative And the famous Ending D, where you WILL cry, but at the same time, the best closure of a game. Thanks for enjoying, crying and having a good experience of the Nier game I wished for you to play. <3

Oh good gravy, i love that one. Nier probably has one of my all-time favorite OSTs. I just love the made-up language. This is the definition of a flawed gem. It's got problems but it's still amazing as a whole. I should go back to it and get the last ending... but I want to get all the trophies first and the grinding is just so boring. :\

I just finished this game, saw all 4 endings, I think I have something in my eye... Awesome game, I wasn't disappointed even if it has a list of flaws when it comes to the gameplay and some weird design choices. Having to replay part of the game a couple times to see all the endings did feel like a chore, but it paid off. Very memorable and emotional story, you rarely get that from a video game. The soundtrack was of course top notch with amazing vocals by Emi Evans.
