Shantae was actually a Game Boy Color game. Its sequel was originally intended for GBA, I believe, but it never really got off the ground until released for the DSiWare.

Awesome. I remember Kaufman mostly from his stellar Super Metroid remix (look up Crystal Flash by virt if you haven't heard it).
One of my favorite games of all time. I'm so glad I own a cart of the original ^ ^
Go straight for Risky's Revenge. The original is good but the sequel is a much better introduction and a better game (one of my all-time favorite platformers).
Well, maybe if it was a budget release for like $15 to $20 it might have worked out better. At the time of it's release many people didn't have a DSI so the chances of it selling well were even slimer. And do be fair, it's VERY rare for a platformer these days to do well unless it's first-party, or a popular indie game on xbla or something.

Got it shortly after the 3ds eshop was launched and didn't regret it. This game is great.
It freaks out on VBA on PC. BGB works just fine though. I hear it'll be on the 3ds shop soon too.
It's easily the most rare and expensive game on the GBC. Apparently it has a lot of issues with emulators too. It runs perfectly on the Virtual Boy Advance emulator on the wii though. I don't think it's on the (3)ds shop.
If there's two things WayForward knows how to do, it's making appealing characters and hiring people to make kickass music. C:

Wait, there are some on the GBC? I only have this one for the iOS, and I must say, I don't regret it because it is a decent game.
Jake Kaufman is far and away my favorite chiptune composer.
The game was too short for a retail game. Plus, even though it looks fantastic, it's not really graphically impressive since it was originally developed for the GBA. Not to mention that platformers on a Nintendo console that aren't mario don't do too well most of the time.

I think the biggest mistake was making Riskey's Revenge a DSIware game instead of a full retail DS game. I can guarantee the sales would have been better. But at least we have the Wii-U game to look forward to:)
This is great! Chill electronica is my favorite kind of music, especially when it mixes electronic sounds with real instruments.

A chill track by Kaufman. Shantae was a criminally overlooked platformer for the GBA and I'm afraid this game flew even more under people's radar. I can't say I did my part, I haven't played this series. That's something I plan on changing in the future.
