FUCK THIS DESERT! I put off replaying this game because of this desert...
easy way to get through the desert is to face the north Star and then turn right once and just keep walking.
Yeah this part of the game I will always remember. I followed the stupid stars through the guide but never reached my goal and without the internets I got stuck forever... Until now as I'm replaying the game. It make me kinda feel sad for the kid as he gets knocked down, caged, beaten up, stabbed with a sword, imprisoned, beaten up the third time, falling over a cliff, beaten up the 4th and got knocked out in the arena. I hate Sunder and his bro. The most annoying bad guys in a game ever.

I was lucky and made it out in a few hours but alot of people get stuck in there.
10 people smoked a join, droped a paper, swalled 10 gallons bear, 1 gallon vodka and still were able to enjoy this good VGM

Oh how I hated this place. But I was so estatic when I finally got through it.

Breath of Fire III was a game of good ideas and poor execution. The Desert of Death is a prime example of this.
I remember I kept getting into random battles after it became to bright to see the stars but before it was "daytime", so i couldn't tell where i was going and had to waste time camping twice so I could see the stars again.
Kinda reminds me of some of the old Spyro-songs
I'd say the part with Ryu as a kid is still super enjoyable. Lots of great moments, exposition, plot twists, etc.
this is the only part of this game that i dread. first time i played it i was lost for so long, then i learned of the "shortcut"

These are really entertaining games. I think they are a bit of an acquired taste, though. There are usually some things about BoF games that I immediately don't like. But once I play for awhile, it's easy to ignore the things I don't like about the games. Breath of Fire III is a pretty good game.
Walk straight for fifteen minutes, then turn left. What about that was so hard? Now getting all of the secret items hidden in the desert of death, screw that.
The guy that first gives you directions says something different from the note that he actually gives you. I think the directions on the note were wrong. Good thing I used the old pen and paper when I talked to the npc the first time.
I never finished Breath of Fire 3 because of this part. It made me cry when I was a kid. ****in' right it was memorable. >:^(

Thanks! That sounds like a good amount that I can do. I just find it a bit annoying when games have the opening take too long. But at the same time if done just right it can actually improve the vibe, feeling like you've grown with the character.
I'd say, about a quarter or a third of the game.
It happened to a lot of people, since something gave you the WRONG DIRECTIONS. One of my favourite Capcom games, very nostalgic and with a strong soundtrack.
A lot of people dread coming up to this part in the game.... It's definitely a memorable experience alright.

Hm, I've beaten the 1st 2, own the whole series, need to actually pick this up and play it though. Anyone have a rough estimate of long the whole childhood bit lasts?(I just really wanna play the Ryu in all the ads, rather than the child)
Yes, yes, a million times yes. Breath of Fire III is possibly my favorite game of all time, with the Breath of Fire series sitting as possibly my favorite series in all video games. So thank you for spreading it's amazing soundtrack out there.
This is exactly the place I got to before I stopped playing because I just had no clue what to do. That was when I was a kid, and also before the time of looking things up online. Definitely memorable, but not exactly my favorite memory.

very tranquil for a location that is "of death"
Yesterday's upload made me think of the Desert of Death. This theme is engraved in my head, I got stuck in there for at least a week trying to figure out where to go. Now I don't know if it's just because I was a kid when I played this game and I didn't pay attention or if this happened to a lot of other people, but that made for a memorable experience. Frustrating when playing after a week, but memorable in the long run.
