Anytime I listen to one of the awesome songs from this game I can't help but hear the weird noise that comes up whenever someone talks. I love it.

I don't know. Xenoblade was great. the Last Story is great.Earth Seeker is great. Lost Odyssey,Blue Dragon,Renosance of Fate,Nier. Then Look at PSP & DS. Ys series Trails in the Sky,Star Ocean,The World Ends with You,Radiant Historia just to name a few.

Everybody saying this has been a bad generation for JRPG's are looking in the wrong spot. All the good JRPG's moved to handhelds. As for DS, Radiant Historia is one of the best JRPG's I have ever played, and the genre is the only thing that kept the PSP semi-alive in the last year or so (Sony totally abandoned that thing).
Yeah the golden age of JRPGs is over, we had our time, now the golden age of shooters has rised :(

I've enjoyed every JRPG that I've played, but you make a good point about the scenarios. I can think of three that all have a moment with a ghost ship: Tales of Vesperia, The Legend of Dragoon, and Grandia.
I've really wanted to get Suikoden 3 ever since I played the demo for it. Not sure if I should download this one from the Playstation Store though.
I disagree. Each and everyone feels like a rehash of the other JRPG's. They always follow the same scenario and the gameplay is pretty much the exact same thing.
Nah man in the PS1 and Snes times, JRPGs were on top of their game.
This song just seems so Disney-esque, even back then. But the game was still quite good!
I assume you've gotten Xenoblade then? Seems like a good start and a good end, but those inbetween just were ok at best. for the most part.

Seems like most new, possibly different games are being shunned for the franchises that make the most money, hence why E3 was immensely boring, save for a few games, all of which are completely original (The Last of Us, Watch_Dogs, Dishonored). Ever since examples set by EA and Activision regarding the immense cashflow franchises create, games have plummeted in quality.
Have you played Nier yeat, Supra? If not, do so now. Nier blows pretty much every other JRPG out of the water when it comes to writing, characters, and atmosphere.

100% agreed. This generation saw a strange shift. Quality RPGs where thrown by the wayside, but RPG elements were shoehorned into every other game genre you can think of. It was an odd generation.
I don't think I need to say how good Xenoblade is, but its questionable whether it is or isn't a true jrpg. I need to play 4 and 5 of this series, need to catch up.
Suikoden... I've never played one of those. There are so many jRPGs.
worth it to play them, and they're on the psn for cheap. no more arm and leg purchases for reasonable condition discs on amazon or ebay.

This was the first Playstation game I bought. I didn't even get a Playstation until many years later because I was a poor college student. Good thing is, once I did get the Playstation, I had this game, which was already becoming hard to find.

I loved Lost Odyssey as well as Blue Dragon, but those games were released 4-5 years ago. It was a very promising start.

Listening to music like this makes me realise how much I miss good JRPGs. What a catastrophic generation for this particular genre. I especially loved the first 2 in this series with their refreshingly mature and political storylines.
