Man, this game was the product between devil and angel. The Day Stages are awesome, they are the levels sonic is all about. The Speed and also the multiple ways to walk gave them the total edge. And i'm so fucking glad they put this sonic system to Generations. but oh boy.. why did they have to compete with God of War, bayonetta etc. The werewolf stages are awful. The control sucks, the animations were stiff, the enemies repeatable and those climbing gives me a barrel full of Rage even now after... 7 years? Day and Night... it can't be better divided. Oh Sonic Unleashed... you and your long ass Werehog stages... how I wish I still had the game...
I've played Shadow the Hedgehog, and I actually love that one. I don't know why people complained about the controls, or why he has guns. And I have played Sonic 3D Blast, one of my favorite Sonic games actually. I didn't get why this one was hated either. It's just those games that I listed in my previous comment were the only 3D ones I've never played.
You clearly never played the awful ones.
Unleashed had some awesome music. I think that's one of the main reasons I kept going with Unleashed cause the music was just so good. Unleashed wasn't too bad. Day level stages were a blast to play and the night stages were weird, sure, but as long as the whole game wasn't about it, then I was fine. Eggmanland however. That stage was HARD.
For the most part. It really is up to each specific player as to weather he/she will like a game. So Secret Rings and Black Knight are up for grabs. But there are enough universal reasons as to why 2006 was the lowest point for 3D Sonic games. Enjoy

So in other words you're saying Sonic 2006 was the only 3D Sonic game that was actually bad. I'll keep that in mind when playing the others then.
Sonic Adventure 1&2 + Sonic Heroes are the only ones I've really liked so far. But the multiplayer on Sonic06 was actually really funny

2006 was just buggy, rushed and unpolished. Plus it had clunky stiff controls. Aside from the nonsensical plot. If the big problems were fixed it might have been passible. It just felt like they were trying to make Sonic Adventure 3 and totally goofed in the gameplay department. Secret Rings was ok, a different take on Sonic. Mainly on rails stuff but ok. And Black Night was ok as well, the sword play was odd but decent. 06 was definitely the low point for Sonic

I LOVE this game's soundtrack. This is still one of my favorite Sonic games to date. 06 and Secrets Rings were really the only bad 3D games IMO. Black Knight actually felt pretty fun, even though it was really short.
I actually liked Black Knight. I haven't played 06, but I don't want to. I HATED Secret Rings.
it is a shame this was played for 7 secs of 1 cutscene in the 360/PS3 version
Then don't play the after-game stuff and stop playing after the final boss. It doesn't really ruin the game then.
Black Night looks pretty cool though.
But I like the night levels...
Aaah, I've been playing since Sonic 1 on the Genesis, and Unleashed is still my favorite Sonic game to date. Such a gem at heart, not to mention no other Sonic game has had this much of grand "adventure" feel...

To this day I've never played a bad 3D Sonic game. I never understood why they were so hated. I've yet to play Sonic 2006, Secret Ring, and Sonic & the Black Knight though.
I have to say this sonic fit so well in the temples so well! Some times I Just put the game in to listen to this master piece of music!

The quality of 3D Sonic titles may be questionable (though it seems it's finally getting better), but the music never let me down. Very nice temple theme I wouldn't actually expect to hear in a Sonic game. This game also has Cool Edge (Night) which is the Sonic track I've been listening to the most for a good while, love it.
