This has a savage garden feel to it. Very similar to "I want you" at the start.
The only way I could get past those stupid martial artist girls at the end of the level was to use my special move, die, then repeat. I could NEVER land a single hit!

The trick is to do a jump attack at them as they're coming down to the ground so they don't have time to run and jump again. It's pretty hard until you figure that out.
There was a special attack move, which was dealing kinda low damage, but always knocking\knockbacking enemy. The trick is to look opposite way from enemy unit, then perform a leg strike with a key pressed. Bosses don't react on this attack, so it's pretty easy to start beating them with combos, beginning from this attack move.
I had the same problems until a friend showed me the correct method to beat them - use ONLY your reverse attack (face away, hold b and press c). You should be able to defeat them without taking any damage provided you can avoid the jump kicks.
The only way to beat em is You have to turn your back towards them they will try to attack but you gotta be faster than Mona & lisa
I just played this game for the first time on that Genesis Classic Game Console thing that has 80 games installed on it. I have to say that Streets of Rage's two sequels are much better.
well duh, it was the first game of its series.
the sequels felt like games from a different franchise with the same characters. SOR1 had a grounded Miami street police feel whereas the later ones felt way more rooted in a cartoon reality
I've always found this to be my favourite of the SoR1 OST, along with Attack The Barbarian. I love that naval feel to the song too!
Oh, you're not kidding. You know what's a surprisingly decent strategy, though? Facing away from them, and pressing both buttons at the same time so you do a backfist. It's only a single strike, but it works every time. :)

Where I was living at the time, everyone bragged about the Genesis and basically disregarded the SNES. All the "cool" people had a Sega Genesis or both.

Definitely one of the best series on the Genesis and one of my most most favorite games to play for the system. Koshiro knew just how to make music during the 16bit era and is considered one of the best for the time. Need to start playing this again.

I prefer Blaze with Black hair as opposed to Brown. Yuzo Koshiro is a damn genius with the club style tracks for SOR. You can't NOT love it.

I ave always loved the SOR game series for its game play and the music. This was one of the first games that I got for my Genesis and, believe it or not, the two people who loved playing it just as much as I did were my parents! On a side note, I always hated the damn twin bosses at the end of this stage.

@PipoSaga Streets of Rage 3 did seem to go a little crazy musically compared to 1 & 2, but there are a few tight tracks on there like the track titled "MOON", it's BGM # 10 and when i heard it, i was STUNNED!!! Please look it up!!
Koshiro is my all-time favorite composer for games. A bit too underrated when compared to the the Square/freelancer juggernauts.

I always liked this track's title. Not very heavy on the melody, but as always with Koshiro there's some awesome bass backed with a great beat. It certainly backs the ass-kicking action perfectly.
