It's so sad that Halo gets so much hate because it's an FPS. Why did CoD have to make all of the other FPSs look bad? Halo is so artfully created! The environments are beautiful, the story is solid, and the gameplay is extremely fun. People seem to compare it to Metroid a lot though which I don't think is that correct because I like Metroid more and they have totally different gameplay.
I never played this game(tried to play Halo 2, but couldn't work on XP). But this song somehow is stuck in my head. Oh, I played Halo CE, but not too much. I had to reinstall system and forgot about the game(had too slow internet to download it again ;p).

I loved Halo 1... sadly then the online community killed it for me. Beyond the singleplayer I see no reason to play it anymore. If I want to have people shout and curse in my ear I can find that anywhere. Now give me a community that doesn't curse like it's going out of style and I value the game all the more, especially if it is good. Now that's just my experience if you still love halo, all the power to you.

If Nintendo one day stops making it's own hardware, it stands to reason that it's most popular brands will continue to exist on other consoles. Or maybe Microsoft will fail and Halo will end up Nintendo consoles. You can't really predict these things. I used the example of Sonic because back in the early 90s, I never thought Sega would stop being Nintendo's biggest rival. And before that, it was thought that video games would be no more than a fleeting fad. It's nice being wrong sometimes.

I love this but that whole idea of Spartans never die came from the unsc bureau of propaganda where they decided that for morale purposes no spartan would be marked down as dead or KIA except for spartan 117 (John) when he was sucked inside the worm hole thing during the explosion of the rebuilt halo ring. I miss when the console wars was just people arguing about whether Mario or Sonic games were better. Now both characters hang out on Smash Bros. It won't be long before the new battle-lines are blurred too, so stop worrying about who's console has the bigger dick and game on! Who knows, in ten years, Master Chief may show up in Smash Bros or Legend of Zelda might be playable on a Playstation.
I hate all consoles equally. Know why? Because because of consoles PC games are being downgraded to shit.
You may want to look at the rest of SD's VGM list before you get the idea he hates those consoles. You may want to also try playing them so you don't sound like a complete ponce when you state your wrong opinion.
Hardly anywhere near an avalanche of titles. Halo may not seem so special now to you but you clearly weren't old enough to play it with your friends when it came out. Some of my most memorable moments in college are of finding at least 4 people in the dorm who had an Xbox and scrounging up enough controllers to kick it on Blood Gulch in Capture the Flag. Not to say the Wii etc. are bad, they have their own list of kick-ass titles, and just like Halo, I have fond memories of them.
In what way is the Wii plain stupid? I find most of its games funner and more challenging than anything I've played on the 360 or PS3, although this entire generation is pretty casual compared to PS2 and earlier. The 360 is pure FPS and sports games, so it bores the hell of me, and the PS3 has like... Mirror's Edge and almost nothing else. Every console you listed has an avalanche of titles that outclass Halo badly, so I'm not sure what's going on in your head.

Gameplay wise it's hard to mess-up something as good yet simple as halo. I beiieve they will do just fine if not better than Reach and Halo 3

Gears of War 1 wasn't that popular until more people started playing, and before you knew it Gears of War 2 was blowing up because it was fun. Should That be the same for Halo? Play it for fun?
Even if you don't really like Halo, there is absolutely no denying that it ranks among the most influencial and important franchises of the last generations. I do not own a 360 and I have not owned an original XBox, yet still I can see how people find this game so appealing. It shows, after all, that even an FPS can have a more complex storyline.

Halo was a hated title because it was another FPS in a WAVE of Shooters/FPS games, and then the community made the respect on the game go down... overall Halo was a great game

I spent my night looking at VGM. It is rather amusing to see that most of the classic music videos (Stickerbrush, Dire Dire Docks etc) have people sharing their own stories rather than people saying this game is better than that game.

I was looking forward to Halo when it was still announced as a revolutionary PC exclusive. Then they scrapped half the ideas which were then made popular in BF1942, and Halo became a boring, replacable brainless shooter with one of the worst level designs I had to suffer through.

@mcgrady301 halo is totally awesome. I played The original One, Halo 2 and Reach. I love them. Halo have this special feeling, which isn't compareable to playing COD or something. I never had an Xbox or 360. I always played Nintendo and Sony. I think it's stupid to hate a system or a game, just because it's on Xbox or Playstation... It's about the software nt about the hardware...
I own a PS3 and have never had a xbox therefore never played Halo, but it's great to see people get the kind of nostalgia that I would get with metal gear solid or loads of classic Sega or Nintendo games.

Halo was awesome for its time (2000-2001), but it quickly got on the wrong side of many people as it got more sequels and became ultra popular. This music is so nostalgic, it pretty much describes my experience

I can't be mad at people for having their opinions, but it's pretty weird how someone couldn't like halo, even at least a little, put aside the fact some people hate it just because it's on xbox. Personally i think the Halo franchise is one of the best that has ever been created, it revolutionized the game just like Call of Duty, and has a storyline that i was in love with. I really like hoe the music for Halo is completely different from every other war game, not that I play many war games, so I don't REALLY know. But it's like every action sequence in other games comes with some kind of rock or guitar riff. They kept it classy with Halo and gave you full orchestrations.

@gunnerthedenmark then you havent played many games... you should check out older RPGs. how does Halo even have a real story? it may have a decent story compared to other FPS games like CoD4, but even Perfect Dark has a better story than Halo. Halo was a joke of a game, it started the popularity explosion of mediocrity that propelled games like Halo, GoW and the like into fame. though i have to admit, Halo has some pretty good soundtracks for how uninspiring of a game it was.

The only Halo I've played is the demo for Halo CE on the PC, but damnit I love this theme. It's got that ambience and the driving melody that just sticks its mark on your mind forever, be it with good or bad memories.

Half Life you have more than an argument. But Doom3? Let's be serious here: It was mostly cheap scares with nice graphics stuck onto it. Halo at least has a lot of things going for, the least of which not being the plot and score.
This game is one of the best console shooters I will grant you, but compare it to the likes of Doom 3 and Half-Life 2 there is no question which is better. (Hint: the ones on PC are always better)

I would have to disagree also... This is probably one of the best FPS franchises ever... I compare this game to Resistance, Kill Zone or any other so called Halo Killers and to me this game stands alone... Story wise, game play wise this game stands alone!...

Yay, first game was the best! The second game was good but it didn't do anything better enough for the time it was made to say it was better.
I prefer Halo 1, as its more simple and fast. Although Halo 2 is not that bad, but the gameplay in a way is slower. But the fetures in Halo 2 i admit are better than that of Halo 1's.

So whats your point? your actually saying the same thing as me, that the players chose wether to play with skill or spam, in both games. I own the quake quadrilogy and i've played the first two games in competetion, and evry single fu(ker would get plasma gun, or the positron gun, and some with a bit more skill would get launcher, the game was a race to whom get the best weapon first. The point is that you can be a pro at using rockets, Fatal1ty is pro, and he can play besy with rockets.
dude, the same thing aplies to halo, obiously you never played quake back in the day, also is game so you dont get any real "skill", also the rocket launcher isnt a spam, because is part of the game.
You apperreantly haven't played much quake, or any scifi fps game, since in every game there are ways to get easy kills, in quake just get the plasma gun and shoot, even if you miss, you dmg the enemy, if you you shoot left, than the guys stading on your left side wil either die or have 20 hp left... My point is that players decide wheter to play with skill or rocket spam (which is possible with quake).
in halo you can also get the rocket launcher or the soartan laser and blast everyone! also quakae and quake 2 were the ones that bringed multiplayer to skilled players.
I'm talking about the multiplayer aspect... metroid is older than even me! It was just a scifi sidescroller in the beginning. And as for HalfLife, its still a great game, it brought us some mutiplayer aspects, but certainly not of the quality as halo. Halo has a battle system built uppon your skill, any noob on half life can get laser wepion and blast evryone off.
actually i think metroid and half life are the ones that brought the concepts for sci fi games.
Its the feeling in the game and the thing "Halo" that makes it wonderful for me and of course the music is awesome!

I agree with some people. Halo is not exactly revolutionary as a shooter. But... there's just something that makes it... special. I can't put my finger on it, but it's just something that makes Halo a special game to play.
My favorite level in Halo is the Silent Cartographer. I can't shoot for beans, so I just hop in the warthog and run stuff over... I even like to drive into the ocean. X3 And I'm too scared to play by myself ('cause I suck) so I always bring a buddy. :3
Halo brought some of the concepts which are required nowadays to be a scifi game, it set some sort of base for the future games, thats why its so special.
to my opinion halo has nothing REALLY special as a shooter crysis is better and some more.. i really like to beat some friends but i hate the campaign then half life is better.. halo is just a normal sci-fi shooter with some badass weapons vehicles but nothing that is REALLY special..
I am more of a Metroid and MGS fan (Since I own a Wii and my friends has a PS3, and my cousin doesn't want to buy a halo 3 since he thinks it sucks) I don't really like it. The story, controls most of it. The only thing I do enjoy about Halo is this theme. I keep listening it over and over again. :)

I really don't get why you have so many thumbs down, you're right. The first Halo was amazing, because of the campaign, which was epic and addictive. The other campaigns are basically just fillers for the multiplayer.
Alright, don't shoot me, but Halo is very annoying and so is this song. I really don't care about the story at all, but the gameplay (not the story) makes it my favorite shooter game. Online multiplayer is fucking addictive and fun as hell, but everything else besides the gameplay and multiplayer is annoying and repetitve. I think Bungie should stop making Halo games because to me, it feels like their overloading us with the same shooter game after another with newer weapons I guess, imo.

Yeah, the intro for halo really stuck to my head when it was fist out... and my friends are so stupid sometimes because they can't appriciate good music in videogame... and they thought the intro was DECENT for halo! It's amazing really
